A Life Of A Horse Part 1

It was a lovely day in San Francisco and the sun was shining brighter than ever. When my owner Elizabeth Andy walked into the stables with two carrots in her hand for two very special horses, by meaning my mama and me, I was feeling delighted than ever to see her. One carrot for my mama and the other one was for me. Eliza’s uncle owns my mama Chant and his niece, Eliza, owns me.
Now, I think I gave you enough clues for you to guess my name. Yes, it is Sandy, ‘dy’ is from the last two letters of Eliza’s last name and of course San is the first word from San Francisco.
“How is my favourite foal?” greeted Eliza. She was the best owner in the world. She might just be nine but she knows more than anyone about us, horses. She smiled at me and mashed up the carrot and gave it to in a bowl. She said I was too young for hard food! It’s just not fair!
Then the joy ended. Eliza’s uncle walked in, he was very strick; she only had to live with him because her family died seven years ago. I heard that story from my mum when she saw the whole story. She never really remembered and not even talks about it. But that doesn’t matter as she believes she has a beautiful family with mama and myself.
“Ay Eliza, I’m going to New York today, I will be staying there for… three weeks. My sister Jeanette is coming to take care of ya. She lives at New Jersey. She had her own horse Ned. Had! Now it’s gone. Like a piece of fallen of leave. She’s also comin’ to get a horse off me. Ah, since we are family, ya can offer one of the best horses for ha.” signed Uncle John. “Bye, have a nice trip.” Eliza happily stated. I pranced around the stable rubbing my head against Eliza’s chest and neighing happily.
“Now my little dear Sandy, you cannot get too excited, some humans are no good to us. There are horse slaught…never mind, I don’t want… never mind my dear.” Mama whispered into my caramel colour ear. When I heard the word slaught… I knew it meant slaughter. Tears filled up my eye, but I had to be strong for I am and always will be Sandy.
That night, my mama spread out the flax beddings for me and her. I still was thinking, who would slaughter a perfectly fine horse? I wasn’t sure about life anymore; I never knew what it was and all I had known was there was sadness and happiness in life. Now, I’m not sure of that either anymore.

2. Aunt Jeanette

“Oh Sandy, I wonder what Aunt Jeanette will look like. Oh, Uncle is a little overweight… I don’t want to be rude or anything but he is quite fat.” as Eliza exclaimed a tall young girl walked in. As I like to describe her, beautiful. As I was a filly, I am interested in beauty but my mama always says, “Don’t get to caught up in it!” She had blonde golden hair, red lips, three tiny dots of freckles on her nose and she was wearing a blue sun dress with a pretty yellow lace.
“Eliza! Your mum and I weren’t only sisters but also best friends so it’s quite unpleasant to see that you didn’t remember me but I guess it was seven years ago and before, you know… I always was there to watch you. Anyways, you have grown so much! And so pretty!” shouted Aunt Jeanette as she pinched Eliza’s cheeks. Eliza was too happy to say anything so I did; I neighed and pranced around happily, rubbing my cheeks against Aunt Jeanette’s sundress. “Onn, that’s a cute little foal, guessing it’s yours.”
I was very happy with that complement. I liked Aunt Jeanette very much, and she was way better than Uncle.
Next morning, I heard the most awful news in the history. Mama and I were moving! Aunt Jeanette chose my mum and Eliza was happy for mama and me but I wasn’t! I was terrified! I was moving from Eliza, my lovely owner! Didn’t she feel my pain? I don’t think so. I tried neighing and reining but oh, it did not work! Eliza only thought I was hungry or needed fresh air!
“Mama, mama, mama… I don’t want to go… not yet. I want to be with Eliza. I don’t want to go to a whole new place. Mama! Make it happen! Please do, please!” I wept to my mama but nothing seemed to change.
“Eliza, I am going to miss you! You can come and visit…” said Aunt Jeanette. “And I am going to miss you and Sandy and her mama too! Sandy, be a good girl for me!” Eliza said as smiled and a tear rolled down from her left eye.
The trailer pulled up and Uncle John walks in, nodding his head and waving good bye. We were put in to the trailer with water and food. I do believe it is going to be a long trip!
“Don’t be scared my little dear, I am here with you and that’s all it matters!” said mama.

The Joy O Spring
by Maid Mairain

"Hey Genevieve. Look who's come to visit us. Hello there Miss, what do you want?" Max asked in his deep voice.

"I- My name is uh Joy and I'm... I'm Oh! I'm just so hungry and no one will let me eat any grass without permission and I was awake all last night licking the place where Mesa bit me and and I ate very little yesterday and I need permission to eat! Oh please let me eat! PLEASE!" I nickered pleadingly, hoping for a Yes, though expecting the worst.

"This isn't my line little Miss, ask Jen."

So I repeated my plea to Genevieve, and hoped.

But it was a vain hope, for Genevieve replied,

"And why would you want to eat? You're fat enough already, you dumpy little pony." And she turned her back on me.

Max spun around to face Genevieve, his eyes snapping and full of anger.

"I know this isn't my line Jen, but listen here! You consider Joy a threat? Just take a look at her! Did you even see her when she walked up? Her eyes glued to the ground, chewing air, in submission! Dare you even consider her a threat? Look here! Yes! Look at me! Joy doesn't want your place! She only wants a bite to eat! For Goodness Sake Jen! Can't you be KIND? LOOK HERE AND LOOK NOW! You're being awfully mean and distrusting. I'm ashamed to call you part of my herd, why you're even the lead mare! Be NICE, FOR ONCE BE NICE!!!"

Max continued to glare at Genevieve, till She finally looked in his eyes. She had a look of utter repentance and submission. Soon her jaw was working, chewing air.

"Joy." Her voice was soft, hardly reaching my ears. "Joy, I'm sorry, really truly, I am. Please forgive me. I wont even try to make excuses. Just please forgive me. " Her eyes looked pleadingly into mine.

All my hatred and unforgiving feelings drained away, the way clouds move swiftly from the spot after a storm.

"Of course Ma'am." I answered quickly.

She smiled softly, showing how wonderful she could be. "Thank you, and you can call me Jen." Then as if proving the point that she wasn't always so quick to speak unkind words, she went on as she glanced at the clover. " Your welcome to share with us. I give you complete permission to eat anywhere you please, though would you please PLEASE eat here with us?"

No words could express my extreme gratitude, so I simply mouthed a silent "Thank you" I looked down to the lush grass and sweet clover, better than I had seen in years. It was the best of the field, the cream of the crop, reserved specifically for the King and Queen, Max and Jen. I took one mouthful of the luscious and leaped in the air. I whinnied my delight and kicked up my heels, galloping and bucking all throughout the pasture like a filly. Suddenly I stopped, ashamed at what liberties I had taken. I had just been accepted into a friendship with the rulers of our pasture, and now, now, what had I done? Had I marred this friendship already. I walked back to the patch, my head down in shame. When I looked into the eyes of my new friends however, much to my surprise and amazement, there were no looks of scorn or dislike on their faces, but looks of genuine happiness.

Jen smiled at me. "Care for a gallop?" She said.

So Jen and I galloped around the pasture, kicking up our heels and having amazing amount of fun. Finally we grazed again, getting plenty of eating in before we would have to go in.
