One in a Million
by Kalsey

The birth of a foal is always challenging. You never know if he is going to live, die, or become a champion.
I stood at the stall door leading to Fearless' stall. She's giving birth. My dad knelt inside her stall beside her, comforting her, waiting for the little foal's head to peek out. After an hour passed, my dad was worried.
"We're going to have to have to call it a night, Taylor. It's just not ready." We went back to the house and in to bed.
Over the next couple of days my dad and I have been anxious for the foal to come. We always check on Fearless. I began to think that the foal had died. My dad had given up hope and had stopped thinking about it. He was so happy.
During the night, my family woke up a shrill neigh. It didn't sound cheerful and it didn't sound frightened. What it did sound like though, was a warning!
"THE FOAL!" I screamed. My dad and I ran out the door and down to the barn. Fearless was on her side. We entered. After what felt like forever, a hoof peeked out, then a head. Fearless licked him clean and stood up on wobbly legs.

THREE YEARS LATER

"Taylor just because you call him Moonbeam here, doesn't mean that is his racing name!" my dad yelled.
"I know, dad. I am not stupid."
"Then what is his name?"
"I've been thinking about it," I said.

The next morning, I was eating Lucky Charms.
(Lucky Charm, Charmy Boy,Lucky Boy) and then it hit me: One in a Million.
The day of the big race, we were all nervous. Moobeam looked gorgeous in his blue outfit.
"The race will begin in 5 minutes." We got Moonbeam ready to go out. I got a couple minutes alone with him and I gave him a hug and told him how much I loved him.
When the race began Moonbeam surged forward. He stayed in 1st and kept it. But, on turn 3, Moonbeam lost his footing and tumbled onto the ground. He tried to get up but his left leg wasn't letting him. I ran out onto the race track with my dad not far behind me. The ambulance arrived to take Peter, the jockey, to the hospital. The veterinarian arrived to check out Moonbeam's leg.
"I am afraid he has fractured his cannon bone," she said. My dad shook his head.
"There is no other choice then is there?" my dad asked.
"Yes I am so sorry."
"NO!" I screamed.
"Taylor, there's no other choice, if we kept him alive, he would be in pain and would never be able to run again."
"But he would still be alive!!" At this point there were tears pouring down my face. The vet got up and went to her car. She grabbed a shot and filled with some kind of liquid. When she walked back i jumped in front of her to block her path. My dad grabbed me and brought me to his side and the vet continued towards Moonbeam.

"Let go of me!" I yelled. I ran over next to Moonbeam's side. "You'll always be my best friend! I promise!"
The vet stuck the needle into his leg and Moonbeam was gone. I could just see the life drain from his eyes.
"NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!" Thetears dripped onto his body.

Losing a champion is never easy. It may even be the worst thing you'll ever have to do in your life.

By: bay speed

Their was a girl named Martha, who wants a horse. Martha's mom said that she could get a horse as long as she found a safe cheap horse. So Martha quickly got on the computer and searched. Martha had not found one horse that she liked. Before she could check another website her mom called for her and told her to go to bed.In bed Martha dreamed about a new horse she would get.

The next morning Martha got up, got dressed and ate breakfast. Then Martha went on the computer again and this time she went on a different website. When she got there she clicked on a horse link that says Gypsy Vanner for sale $2000!$2000 dollars is cheap for a Gypsy Vanner! Mom Mom Martha yelled! What! her mom screamed terrified that something bad happened! Its alright mom I just found a horse that I want Martha said. Come up and see it. Martha's mom came up to see the horse. Martha's mom said it was fine that she got the horse. Martha screamed with joy.Martha and her mom jumped in their pick-up truck with the trailer hooked to the back. When they got to the horse's place, the owner of the horse came over and helped Martha and her mom load up the horse and gave them the mare's papers.
