Rehabilitation Part 4

By ParelliChick

"Nikki!" A single cry jerks me out of my state. My eyes flash open. I see a girl with blonde ringlets and dark green eyes crouching over me.

"Alison? Where's Sunny?" I ask groggily.

Alison looks relieved. "She's fine." As soon as the words leave her mouth, the familiar black head of my mare peeks over my forehead, lipping at my hair.

"Hi girl." I sit up and stand, I stagger a little bit and Alison catches me. "Stood up too fast." I swing back onto Sunny's back and walk her around the arena.

Epilogue

I close my eyes. "It's been a year girl. Let's show these people who the best jumper here is." I hear the announcer call my name and I ride out onto the soft dirt of the World Championship of Show Jumping, the same place Sunny was injured about a year ago.

"Our Grand Supreme Champion of the 2013 World Show Jumping Championship is... NICOLETTE FIERCE ON BLACK SUNSHINE!" I grip Sunny's reins and squeeze my legs, she walks forward and out onto the dirt. I smile, accepting my HUGE trophy and check. "Congratulations Miss Fierce."

After I put Sunny into the trailer, I am bombarded with questions from reporters. I silence them with "How about I tell you everything from the beginning. This isn't the first time I've been here..." and I begin my story. The same way I just told you.

THE END

Thank you for sticking to this story! I hope you weren't disappointed by the ending.

Black is the New Pink part 4

By ParelliChick

I shoved my books into my backpack and slammed my locker door, turning and coming face to face with Luke who grapped my shoulders to steady me. "Gah! Make a sound next time!"

Luke cracked a half smile.

I rolled my eyes. He smiled , "C'mon, let's get to the busses before they leave." He grabbed my backpack before I had a chance to sling it onto my back. "I'll be taking that."

I sat in my usual seat on the bus. The only unusual thing was Luke was sitting next to me instead of Lisa.

When we got to the barn, I hid Luke in a stall. "During my conversation with Lisa, I want you to come in the tack room and surprise her."

I went into the tack room. "Hey Lisa!"

"Hi Giselle! What's up?" My friend replied.

"My parents hired another groom."

As if on cue, Luke entered. "Hey Giselle? What do I do with the wheelbarrow?" Lisa's mouth dropped open as Luke walked over.

"Take it to the muck heap." He nodded and walked out, I looked at Lisa. "Close your mouth. You look like a fish."

"HE'S the new groom?"

"Yup."

"Are you going to teach him how to ride?"

"Dunno."

"You should!"

I shrugged, it didn't sound like a bad idea.

___________
Tune in next month to see what happens with Luke's riding!

The Palomino Stallion
By CaroleApollo123
Chapter 1
The Palomino is strong but yet wise his coat is beautiful, it gleams and shines, he, Hold on, Renee stops Alice who is half way through reading her poem about a wild Palomino stallion she saw. Where did you see this stallion again? Renee asks, I told you, up on Valley Ridge. Alice replys, Oh ok, maybe we could go on a hack, you know. Maybe try and catch it? Renee says with nervousness. WHAT! You are craz, we can’t just go out riding and catch a wild stallion. Wild horses are dangerous, especially stallions, yells Alice. Sorry mother, Renee says with sarcasm. Fine, Alice finally says, let’s go but I’m telling you we won’t catch it, we may not even see it. Ok, let’s go then says Renee glumly, just then a screaming shriek and a loud frightening neigh comes from outside, they look and they can’t believe their eyes. It’s the……..

Title: Taming Mustangs chapter 2
By: Horsesforever12

Chapter 2
"Chance! Settle down," Ali told the gelding firmly as he chewed at his bit. His creamy-white mane bounced against his neck. Ali pulled back on the reins and dismounted. "That’s enough for today," the girl said to the horse. "I think my emotions are upsetting you." Today Jasmine was coming to pick up Blacky, and Ali wasn’t in a very good mood.
"How’s it going?" Marie called to her daughter as she trotted by on Rover, a red chestnut Lippanzer gelding.
The big frisky horse was being boarded there because he had a tendency to buck his riders off. Besides Rover and Cody, three other horses were there because either their owners were away or because their owners didn’t have any room on their property for a horse, or if the horses had bad habits that needed to be broken. Ali’s favorite one was Sunny, a light chestnut mare that was owned by a girl that didn’t have any place to put her. The girl’s name was Lucy, and she came by all the time to ride the mare.
"Not too good. Chance is acting up. I think it’s just because I’m upset," Ali explained as she cooled the Palomino down. She was hoping to take him around a course of jumps, but Chance had knocked down three and refused the oxer.
"Well, I suppose we’d better put these horses away and get Blacky ready. He doesn’t have his travel bandages on yet," Marie said as she dismounted Rover. The gelding playfully pranced in place, anxious to be let out to graze. Ali and her mother untacked the horses and put them in the paddock. Ali caught Blacky, who was grazing on the other side of the paddock, and took him to the barn to groom him. After his shaggy black coat was gleaming, she picked his hooves, bandaged his legs and tail, and put him in his stall until Mrs. Morello arrived.
Ten minutes later, a pickup truck with a horse trailer attached to it came up the Burningham’s driveway. Marie, Jake, and Ali came out to meet them. Mary hopped out, a huge grin on her face. Jasmine got out of the truck after Mary and strolled over to Ali and her mom and brother.
"Roy is at his riding lessons," said Jasmine, "and Sara is with my husband Darryl to pick up her new horse. So Mary is just with me today."
Ali stared at Jasmine for a few moments, her eyes showing shock. "A new horse? B-but she never told me she was getting a horse!" Ali exclaimed. Sara had looked perfectly normal yesterday. If I had been getting a new horse, thought Ali, I would have been hysterical!
"H-m-m," said Mrs. Morello thoughtfully. "I don’t know why…she was very excited about her mare."
"What kind of horse is it?" Jake asked, not seeming very ecstatic. Do people not take getting a horse seriously around here? Ali wondered.
"Oh, she’s an Irish Cob named Magic. She’s such a pretty gray! Almost silver, actually. She’s not very heavy duty though, in fact, she’s quite light, so I think she might have some mix of other breed in her. Perhaps Arabian, Thoroughbred, or Hanoverian." Jasmine said, smiling.
"That’s cool. Will she be keeping it at your place?" Ali asked Jasmine, trying to hide her envy. All though her family at lots of horses, Ali didn’t have one she could call her own. Except, of course, Blacky…but he wasn’t hers anymore. Jasmine’s brow suddenly furrowed.
"That was the plan. But our barn and paddock was built for a small Shetland, like Blacky…not a big Irish Cob like Magic. I was wondering to ask if Magic could board here…I’ll pay." Mrs. Morello looked expectantly at Marie. Marie shook her head.
"No need to pay! Magic can stay here for as long as you want…for free. Sara can come here to ride." Ali stared at her mother. Usually they had a huge family discussion and planned for days before they got another horse, or boarded one. Marie was jumping right in! Not that Ali didn’t agree…having such a beautiful and expensive horse at there stable would be fun, and seeing Sara almost every day would be great. But that didn’t seem like Mom.
"Oh, Marie, I wouldn’t want you to do that!" Jasmine exclaimed, obviously surprised. But Marie only smiled. "It would be our pleasure," she said kindly. Ali hoped she wasn’t going crazy. So much happening in one day!
"When should we bring Magic over?" Mrs. Morello asked.
"Friday, if you want." Marie answered.
"Thank you! We will." Jasmine seemed very happy, but Ali was still wary. Did they have the money to board another horse? She new her family sometimes struggled with finances. Even though people were paying to board their horses right now, it still wasn’t a lot.
"Can I get Blacky now?" Mary’s voice broke Ali’s thoughts. Ali shrugged. "Sure, he’s in the barn." Ali said, kind of sharply. Marie shot her a look, but she ignored it. I’ll talk to Mom tonight, thought the girl. Everyone went into the barn and Mary went into Blacky’s stall. She clipped a lead shank onto his halter and led him out to the horse trailer, that Mrs. Morello had gotten ready. Ali watched sadly as Mary led the pony up the ramp. Ali followed the little girl into the horse trailer to say goodbye to Blacky. After Mary had secured him, she turned to Ali.
"I’ll let you say goodbye," she said cheerfully. She walked out and Ali turned to the Shetland, who was nuzzling her gently. "See ya’ later, little buddy. Take care of Mary. I love you," she said, planting a kiss on his muzzle. Then she went out the side door and watched as Jasmine shut the trailer door and got into the truck. Mary followed, waving bye to Ali.

The next day, Wednesday, Ali quickly dressed for school and had breakfast. She got to the bus right on time and sat next to Sara.
"Hi!" Sara said cheerfully.
"Hi," Ali said, rather grumpily. Last night she had talked to her mom about Magic, and Marie had only said she wanted to help Jasmine. It still felt odd…like something wasn’t right.
"Are you okay?" Sara asked, looking concerned.
"Yeah, I’m fine." Ali looked at Sara, trying to see if she looked excited or anything. She wanted to know why she hadn’t told her about her new horse. But Sara had no emotions of excitement at all.
"Jasmine’s bringing Magic over to our place today," Ali said, trying to sound casual. But it was everything but casual. Sara sighed.
"I guess you heard," she said slowly.
"Why didn’t you tell me, Sara?" Ali asked. The girl looked down.
"I didn’t want you to be upset. I know you have lots of horses at your place, but do you have your own horse?"
"No," Ali admitted.
"See…I just don’t want to make my new friend jealous of me." Sara smiled weakly.
"Friend?" Ali repeated what Sara had said, feeling a new excitement rush over her. She had never really had a close friend. Sara smiled.
"Sure," she said. Ali smiled back.
"Well, then, my BFF…will you let me ride Magic?" Ali asked, feeling a bit less grouchy.
"Of course. You won’t believe her gaits…they’re like…magic!" Sara laughed, her grayish-blue eyes twinkling.
"Sounds great," Ali said, laughing too. "Will I get to see Roy often?"
"Why?" Sara asked, a teasing look in her eye.
"Oh, I dunno." Ali shrugged, feeling a bit embarrassed because she was blushing.
"I think I know why," smiled Sara. "You like him!"
"No!" Ali half-shouted, her cheeks thoroughly blushing pink.
"Uh-huh." Sara smirked, the teasing look still gleaming in her eye.
"Look, I was just wondering. I mean, if you’re not going to be at your riding lessons anymore, or Mary for that matter, isn’t he going to be alone?"
"He took a liking to Devil. He wouldn’t stop telling me all last evening and this morning what a great horse he must be to ride…" Sara seemed to be hinting something, and Ali got it. He wanted to ride at her farm!
"Of course he can! I mean, I’ll talk to Mom." Ali blushed again, realizing he would be at her place all the time. That doesn’t mean I like him. I don’t. I don’t think I do…do I? Ali battled her thoughts about Roy all throughout school. But finally she had to admit to herself that she had a crush on him. But did he like her?
When Ali got home she went out to the barn where Marie and Jake were cleaning out stalls. All the horses were in the paddock. Ali paused as she past Blacky’s empty stall. She still felt bad that he was gone. She went up to her mom and put on the best smile she could. "Mom, Devil really like Roy when he came here. The poor stallion would love to see him, and Roy would love to ride him. What if Roy rode Devil, here, instead of having riding lessons?" Ali bit her lip as Marie stopped pitchforking straw to reply to her daughter.
"Sweetie, I’ve been meaning to tell you…well, finances have been low. I know we agreed to let Magic board here, but I only did it because three more horses are going to be coming here in the next Monday. It will help a bit with the finances…but not a lot. Devil is a very good-looking horse with magnificent bloodlines…and I’m thinking of selling him in the October auction this year. We could make a lot of money off him. I’m sorry dear." Marie didn’t mean anything bad, but Ali definitely felt bad! Without noticing her tears, she burst out, "Mom! I raised him when he was a foal! He means so much to me! You can’t, you just can’t!"
"Honey, It’s for the best-"
"It is not! It’s for the worst! I won’t let you!" With that, Ali marched outside to the paddock, caught Devil, brought him to the barn, groomed him, and tacked him up. She galloped away from everything, her vision blurring from her tears.
The black stallion snorted happily, glad to be out and free with the wind. Ali didn’t know how far she went, but she galloped as far away as she could. Mountains, rivers, trees, and meadows flew past them and familiar places quickly grew unfamiliar until Ali realized she had no idea where they were. She didn’t care though. She slowed Devil down and collapsed on his silky black mane. She cried until her eyes were red and the horse’s mane was damp. Finally she stopped and glanced around at her surroundings. They were on a small ledge, with the mountains before them and a valley below. The sun shone brightly down and the grass was dotted with small flowers. And then, there was a thundering noise. It sounded like thunder, but the clouds in the sky were puffy and white, showing no signs of bad weather. Ali dismounted and strolled to the edge of the cliff, staring down at the valley. It was then that she saw the most beautiful, mystifying, breath-taking sight. There, galloping onward through the valley, was a small herd of wild mustangs. Their colors ranged from gray to paint. In the lead, a stallion, dappled gray with a silver mane and tail, raced ahead from the other horses, totally bewitching Ali. Her eyes were all over the stallion. His face was noble and long, with piercing eyes and flattened ears. His muscled legs galloped over the ground with almost no effort, almost as if he was flying. He looked so unreal with his silvery-blue color and awing gaits. And then the moment was gone. The wild horses were off in the distance, leaving Ali to re-gather herself. Did I really just see that? she asked herself. She decided that she had, and that her heart wanted more. Like, she had some sort of connection between not just horses…but wild horses.
Devil nickered behind her and Ali patted his muzzle. "Did you see that, Devil? Wild mustangs! They were amazing…" Ali sighed, trying to forget her troubles. But they only became stronger. The month was September, which meant that the auction was in a month! Devil would definitely get a good price…a radiant black four-year old stallion with great bloodlines and gorgeous legs, and a good chance he could be a jumper? He would be sold before Ali could blink! Probably for over twenty thousand. People had been really interested in Warmbloods these days…Ali stopped. She couldn’t think about it anymore. She mounted Devil and began walking him home. She had to follow his hoofprints in the dirt because she wasn’t sure where they were. Autumn leaves drifted down from the trees in bright cheerful colors, but Ali barely noticed. How could her mother do this? Now she understood why she was letting Magic board at their farm. She hoped to get a big profit off Devil…plus, there were new horses coming in. It was hard enough selling Blacky. But not Devil! I won’t let anyone take him away. He’s mine! Ali thought, wiping her eyes on her sleeve. Of course he wasn’t hers in real life, but they were so close…Ali had felt a connection with him the second she laid eyes on the foal.
They reached the farm just as the sun was beginning to set. The smell of horses and smoke from the chimney hit Ali as she brought Devil into the barn. She had always loved the mixture smell of horses and home, but not today. She was dreading her mom’s pitying eyes and her "I’m sorry we have to do this" voice. After Devil was in his stall, groomed and eating his supper, Ali trudged wearily into the house. She ignored her mom who seemed to be worried and was wondering why she was out so long, and took her plate of dinner up to her room. But she couldn’t eat. Things seemed to be going every-which-way. She was happy about Sara being able to board Magic at their stable, and sad that Roy wouldn’t be able to ride Devil…and she was sad most of all about the upcoming auction.
The next day, as Ali and Sara sat at a cafeteria table, Ali decided to bite the bullet and tell her friend the news. "My mom is selling Devil in the October auction, so I’m afraid…" she paused a moment and then continued, "…I’m afraid Roy can’t ride Devil." Sara looked shocked.
"Oh, Ali, that’s terrible! I know how much Devil means to you…Roy was telling me how you named him as a foal and how much you love him." Sara said, squeezing Ali’s arm sympathetically.
"I know. But how are we going to tell Roy?" Ali asked. She definitely didn’t want to, but it had to be done.
"Here he comes now…I’ll leave you to the talking." Sara gestured to Roy, who had come to sit down at their table with his lunch tray. Ali groaned silently.
"Hey, guys…so, what’s up? What’s wrong, Ali?" Roy asked, noticing the girl’s furrowed brow and frown.
"Uh…well, I’ve got some bad news…" Ali began, wishing she were dead right now.
"Let me guess: I can’t ride Devil?"
"Worse…my mom is selling him in the October auction." Ali blurted out, glad that it was over. But when she saw Roy’s face, she nearly dropped to the ground. He looked so sad, so surprised.
"I- um, I’m sorry Ali…" Roy’s voice drifted off into a whisper at the end, his eyes giving Ali sorry looks. It was then that she noticed he had the most greenest, caring, sincere eyes she had ever seen. She could just stare into them forever. Finally, her eyes could meet his, and they did…for at least a minute until Sara coughed, and the two looked down, both feeling a bit embarrassed. Then Ali remembered something. "Oh, guys, listen to this! I went for a ride with Devil, and I came to this cliff, and down below was a valley. And I saw a herd of wild mustangs! For real! The one in the lead was a silvery dapple gray. He was so majestic…" Ali’s voice trailed off.
"Wow! Here in Montana?" Sara asked, her eyes wide.
"You bet! They were sooo beautiful."
"I’ve never seen a wild horse…what do they look like?" Roy asked, his eyes sparkling. Ali smiled at him.
"Like…they were so free. They were tossing their heads, galloping, just enjoying freedom. And the funniest thing…I feel like I have a connection with them." Ali sighed. At least she didn’t have to think about Devil for the moment.
"That’s not funny…that’s wonderful," said Roy softly. Ali blushed. Sara smiled and stifled at giggle. It was obvious they liked each other. But that’s okay with me, Ali thought. Then the bell rang, signaling their next class. Everyone stood up, threw the remains of their lunches away, and hurried out to their classes.
After school and changing into riding clothes, Ali rushed to the barn, passing her mom who was getting a stall ready for the arrival of Magic the next day, and went right up to Windy’s stall. Ali groomed the mare, tacked her up, and began leading her outside. Jake was out in a corral with Your Majesty, a brown gelding who was there because his owners were on vacation. "Hey!" Jake called to her, cantering near the edge of the fence to talk to her.
"Hi," said Ali shortly.
"What’s up? Are you upset about Devil? Ali, you know it’s for the-"
"The worst! Are you siding with Mom?" Ali interrupted her brother abruptly.
"I’m not siding with anyone. You do know we could make at least forty thousand on the stallion. It will be a great help with our finances!" Jake said coldly, turning Majesty back around toward the center of the corral. Ali mounted Windy swiftly and trotted off. She wanted to get back to that place where she had seen the wild horses. But just as she was about to leave the farm, Lucy came up on Sunny.
"Hi Ali! I was wondering if-"
"If what? Listen, Lucy, I can’t help you right now." Ali interrupted, a little more sharper than she had intended. Lucy looked a little offended. Ali sighed. "Sorry, I’m just not in a very good mood right now," she said.
"Oh, okay. Are you upset about Devil?" Lucy asked shyly. Lucy had always been really shy since she started riding Sunny at their farm.
"Yeah…wait, you know about his sale?" Ali questioned, surprised that Lucy knew already…they hadn’t even told many people about it yet. Lucy shrugged.
"Yep. Word gets around fast."
"I guess it does," mumbled Ali.
"Well, I’ll let you go on your trail ride now," said Lucy, waving as she trotted Sunny back toward the barn. Then Ali pushed Windy into a canter and then a gallop, trying to review in her head how she had gotten to the cliff and valley. Finally she started remembering, and she started studying the sights around her. It was a crisp September day. The sun was high in the sky, and there wasn’t a cloud in sight. Brightly colored leaves drifted down from the trees and flocks of birds began to fly south for the winter that was approaching. Soon Ali could see the cliff drawing nearer and her heart began to race. But when she dismounted Windy and peered over the cliff’s edge, down into the valley below, there was no sign of wild horses anywhere. So Ali slumped down and sat at the edge of the cliff, her head in her hands. I was hoping to see some mustangs today, she thought sadly. It would have really cheered her up. But then she realized the cliff stretched outward a bit more, so she re-mounted Windy and began to explore more of the precipice. Soon the cliff headed downward at a gentle slope, and a little wood began to enclose around Ali and Windy. They trotted through the woods for a few moments before coming in to a clearing. Ali stopped short. A gorgeous meadow stretched for miles before her, distant mountains rising in the horizon, and a hole herd of mustangs were grazing there. They seemed so close to Ali, so close she could reach out and touch them. They barely noticed her, but one cute foal kept looking up at her. Ali recognized the herd. And sure enough, the lead stallion was the dapple gray she had seen that one day. His head was held high on his shoulders, his tail arched, his eyes taking everything in at once. And he noticed Ali. There was a moment where horse and girl stared into each other’s eyes, and Ali wished it had lasted forever. But then the stallion laid his ears back, giving a sharp neigh. At once, every horse in the herd was galloping, with the majestic stallion in the lead. Tossing his head, he led his herd toward the mountains, and every horse obeyed him. But all at once, as the herd was galloping wildly away, Ali had a small glimpse of the stallion stumble and fall. But the dust and dirt kicked up by the wild herd had engulfed the gray horse, and Ali couldn’t see him. When the cloud of dirt finally relented, there was no sign of the stallion. All Ali could do was hope and pray that he was okay.

Briarwood academy
By Sockylola1
Book One Of Briarwood.
Chapter One

My parents drive me past the ivy-covered sign reading "Briarwood Academy." I clutch my gray horse plushie. It looks just like Starlight, my gray mare.
I look out the window, hoping to forget about the change. Instead, I'm looking straight at the Office. Great.
My dad stops the car. "Abby? We're here."
"Sweetie, I'm sorry we can't go in with you. . ." Mom begins.
"It's fine," I say. "No problem. The academy won't let you on campus. It isn't a problem."
I take out my duffel. Most of my clothes and/or horse stuff has already been sent to my dorm.
I guess it's time to tell you. I've been sent to a boarding school that offers riding classes. Yeah. Big whoop. I'm leaving behind my friends and everyone I ever cared about.
I walk into the office. A secretary smiles kindly. "Hi there. Abigail Newman?"
"That's me." I reply.
"Good. Okay, you took a tour last month, but do you want a map in case?" she asks.
"Thanks, but I'm good," I say. "What hall am I in?"
"Cherryford. Your roommate is Lily Sanders. I notice you are a rider; the stables have your horse ready if you want her."
"Thank you," I say gratefully. I heave my duffel off the floor and head out the door towards the dorms.
Cherryford. Should be hard to find. . . Or not. I enter through the large glass doors, the left reading CHERRY and the right FORD.
When I take out my key and go inside the room, find it empty. Half of the room has books on the nightstand, in the shelf, etc.
I take the other side, setting up my favorite books and putting away my clothes.
My purple bedspread gives a nice splash of color against my pink pillows. The walls are painted a light yellow.
Is this really meant for me? Can I make it here?
The door opens. A girl with long brown hair enters. She smiles.
"Abby?" We e-mailed a TON over the summer.
"Hi, Lily! It's so great to finally meet you," I say. "How is Jet?"
Jet was her red-roan gelding.
"Great, thanks. I can't wait for my first show. It'll be so much fun competing with him!"
"I know, same with Starlight. What do you think about the school?" Lily was new, too.
"I don't know. Big. Scary. And a little. . . I don't know. Intimidating?"
"You got the vibes, too?" I sigh. "Maybe it's the older girls."
"Probably. Seventh grade has a lot of cliques, though, I see."
"Ugh. Just great." I rub my eyes, smearing my quick mascara job.
"Better wash your face. You look like a zombie," Lily joked.
"Ha ha." I sighed. "Serisouly, though? I worry. Am I going to do well in lessons?"
"Who knows? But I think you will." Lily walks into the bathroom.
I sigh and stare at my hands. Lily was right. I could make it here. If I tried, I could.

Everything Has Changed - Chapter 1
by Euphonious

Ashleigh sat on Shining's back in show clothes. They were at a very important 4-H show. They had qualified for State. Ashleigh sighed. Their were over twenty people in this class. She had been waiting for half an hour. Shining snorted as if to say, "Hey, we have a good reason to be waiting here!" Finally the loudspeaker blared. "Please enter 119 to Arena D." Ashleigh entered the arena with Shining at a working trot, then kicked her into a collected canter. Ashleigh pulled Shining toward the brush jump that was their first jump. Ashleigh gave Shining more rein as they approached the jump. "Here we go..." Ashleigh thought as she leaned forward. Shining neatly cleared the brush jump. Ashleigh pulled the left rein, toward a triple combination.

Shining trotted out of the arena, Ashleigh grinning. They had managed an all clear round. Next, they had another jumping class. It was much complicated. But Ashleigh was confident. Anyways, she did have to wait a couple minutes until this class's results were announced. Ashleigh dismounted. She led Shining off to the barn. She sat down on a chair. "Oh Shining!" Ashleigh said. "I remember when you were first born. You were a sickly, weak little filly. You could barely even stand up after you were a week old. But now, look at what you've become."

Ashleigh leaned forward as Shining started jumping over a big brush jump. Bigger than the other one. Ashleigh gave Shining a bit more rein. But just then, as they were landing, Shining took a wobbly step and fell. Ashleigh fell before Shining, and Shining landed on top of her. "Am I dead?" Ashleigh asked herself.

"Ashleigh?!" someone said. Ashleigh opened her eyes weakily. "Uhm?" Ashleigh grunted. "Your in the hospital..." a familliar voice said. "I don't care! Is Shining ok?" Ashleigh said in a weak voice. "Oh...Shining. She has a split heel." said the familliar voice. "She's alright other than that."

The Storm
by kodagirl2

I jump off the school bus and walk over to the fence on the side of the road. I easily hop over it and start walking through the our pasture towards the barn. I raise my hand to my mouth to whistle for my dapple grey appaloosa Denali but sigh and drop my hand, for Denali wasn't going to come galloping towards me today. You see, a little more than a week ago, Denali was hurt real bad while we were riding back to the barn. The vet said he had fractured his front left leg but had completely crushed his front right hoof when he tripped over the root of a tree. He told my parents that he was in bad shape and it would take a real long time to heal, if it did. That wasn't the only horrible thing that happened that day though. That was the same event where my best friend, Jake went missing. My thoughts were interrupted by my mother's incessant yelling, that was also when I realised I was about to run into the barn door.
"Kasey!!Kasey! Kasey, can you hear me?!"

"Yes mother, I can hear you loud and clear!"

She sighed. She could tell I was troubled and lowered her tone. She knew what I had to be going through and tried to make me feel better but most of the time it didn't work. She started to talk calmly as the carmargue foal she was working with began to bite the small halter in her hands,
"Can you come and help me with this crazy foal, she seems to like you more than me."

My mom struggled a smile and I threw my backpack on the ground. I walked in the stall and the pure black foal let go of the halter in my mother's hands and walked a little closer to me. When I started humming an old folk lullaby and knelt to her height she took a couple short steps forward. I talked quietly and soothingly,

"Hey pretty girl, it's ok, I'm not gonna hurt you," by this time she was at the perfect distance so I could slip the halter on her without her spooking as I hummed, "There we go. You're going to be a pretty white mare when your older huh?" I managed a chuckle and scratched her ear as she rubbed her head against my stomach. Horses always found a way to take my mind off of anything. There were my escape from reality and my whole world revolved around them.
And that was where I bursted in tears. Denali was a master at clearing my mind instantly and since he was at the vet's stable being monitored 24/7, I couldn't see him. Momma came to my aid and shushed me until I was able to breath again.

"I miss him momma, I miss him bad."

"I know honey, I know. He's strong though, he will fight through it for you." She brushed my bangs out of my face and fingered through my tangled hair.

"I miss Jake too. Do you think we will find him?" I took a quivering breath.

"Well that is what the meeting tomorrow with the investigators is for. They will be coming here this time."

Shila and the Thief Part 4
By Danielle Rose

"Where are they?"I said as I paced back and forth on our front porch.
"If you keep on doing that you'll wear a hole in the floor,"Naaman said, sitting on the porch swing twiddling his thumbs, and just as worried as I was. Mom and Dad hadn't come home last night. They hadn't even call to let up know where they were.
"I'm going inside,"I said, and opened the screen door to go in the house. I paced a few turns, then picked up the phone to call my Dad's cell for the fourth time. I punched in the numbers, and waited for Dad to pick up, but all I heard was:"Brrrrd...brrrrd...brrrrd...Hey, if you were calling Kurt Brandon, you have the right number, but the wrong time obviously since I didn't pick up the phone. Anyway, just leave your name and number and I'll get back to you as soon as possible. Stay close to Christ, and may God bless your day." I didn't leave a message, and walked to the screen door.
"...were in an accident,"were the words that stopped me dead in my tracks. Had Mom and Dad been in an accident?! I looked out through the screen, and saw Officer Bradley talking to Naaman. He must have driven up when I was on the phone.
"Who were in an accident?" I said as I pushed the screen door open and stepped out onto the porch, panic and fear were written all across my face. The two men stopped talking, and looked at me, and I looked at them, frantically staring at them.
"Uh..."Naaman started. "Your parents were in an accident, and...they...didn't make it."
We all stood in silence for a long time, me staring wide-eyed at officer Bradley, hoping he would say it was a mistake and that someone else had been in the accident. But he couldn't keep his eyes on mine, and walked back to his car with his head hanging. My heartbeat and breathing quickened, and I felt a scream building up inside of me. I held it down as Officer Bradley drove away, and I stumbled inside.
"Lex, you okay?"
"NO!"my scream came out in words as I blew up at Naaman."My horse was stolen! My parents were just killed! And you ask if I'm okay?! NO! I'm not okay!" I stormed through the house, grabbing things and throwing them everywhere. I ran to the top of the stairs and screamed down at Naaman, "I'M NOT OKAY!" I turned around and the next thing I knew, I was falling down the stairs, then blackness.

It seemed only a moment later that I woke up in a hospital room. It was night, but the moon was shining through the open window like it was saying hello to me, making the room light. The craters on the moon made it look like it was smiling.
"Don't smile,"I said suddenly remembering the accident my parents were in. But I wasn't in it, so why was I in the hospital? I tried to remember anything past going to the house after Officer Bradley drove away, but nothing came to me. So I decided to stop trying. Maybe it would come to me then. I looked around the room, and saw a calender hanging under the TV on the wall facing me. It said it was the 29th. It had been the 21st when Officer Bradley had told me Mom and Dad were dead. I'd been asleep for eight days! Or in a coma. But why would I be in a coma? What happened? I couldn't remember. I looked around the room again and noticed a woman in the cot next to my bed. She stirred a little and turned towards me, but didn't wake up. I knew that face and that hair. Flaming red hair like Dolly in the movie "Hello, Dolly".
"Lyssa?"I said aloud, and the woman's eyes opened. I hadn't been sure if it was Lyssa until I saw her emerald green eyes. The greenest eyes I'd ever seen. That was what I had remembered most about her.
"Your awake!" Lyssa exclaimed, and got up to go get a doctor. From the hall I heard "She's awake!" over and over again. Then a doctor came in and looked at me.
"Does your head hurt?"he asked.
"No."
"That's good." He checked me over a bit more and said that I was fine, and that I would have to stay in bed for about two days before I got on the plane.
"What plane?"I asked when I heard this.
"Your coming to live on my ranch,"Lyssa answered. "Your parents farm is to be sold, and the proceeds are to be donated to aid missionary's like my mom. The horses, and you are coming to live on my ranch. Naaman is coming too because he doesn't have anywhere else to live."
What? My entire childhood, sold?! No!
