Title: Secret Soldiers
By: Horsesforever12

~Chapter 1: Runaway Warrior~

Nothing, at the moment, was more inviting than the cold, dark woods enveloped in the quiet shadows of the night. But Mira noticed none of it. Her crystal blue eyes were set on the forest path before her. She grasped her satchel tightly; her pace was quick and uneasy. She stopped sharply, flipping her tangled brown hair behind her shoulder so she could see the small, white house she was leaving. She didn't think running away would be so difficult. Her father and stepmother cared nothing for her, especially her dreams to be a solider in the current war. She glanced at the bow and quiver of arrows on her back. She had stolen them from her father's closet, on the high shelf. He kept all his "Precious Things" on that shelf. At times Mira wondered why Father even had a bow or all those other things she had seen on the shelf. " But some mysteries will never be solved," Mira thought to herself as she turned back to the forest trail never to return again.

* * *

Mira didn't know how long she had traveled. All she knew was how the last ray of sunshine had disappeared over the horizon, and the dark woods were enclosing their arms around her, casting dark, cold shadows upon the ground. The sky darkened fiercely, and the white, pale moon hid her face behind a large, dark cloud. Mira could not make out much; for it was a dark and eerie night. One would think that it would be silent, but it was the opposite. The forest was alive with noise; coyotes howled in the distance, the owls hooted high in the trees, and the raccoons made quite a rucus scavenging for food. Once and a while a small, red fox would scurry before Mira's path. Mira felt glad for the noise, but her heart ached with loneliness. Sometimes fear and regret would over take her, and at one time it became very strong. Mira wrapped her arms around her as the sharp, cold-hearted wind pierced through her clothes and right into her bones. Suddenly, light filled the forest. Hundreds of little fireflies flooded the dark woods, shining their bright light. Mira smiled, forgetting her troubles. She followed the tiny creatures, the last thing she wanting is to be left alone again. But, her friends stayed for a short while. At the sharp noise, the fireflies darted away. Mira cringed. It came again. A loud, desperate neigh.
"A horse!" Mira cried, running forward. The frightened cries drew closer until Mira saw it. A tall, black horse slashing its strong, muscular forelegs into the air and a glimpse of someone falling to the ground.

Name: A Hard Winter

To Arianna

“Once upon a time when I was a wild little filly I got separated from my family… And this is how it happened.
I shivered as I trotted through the cold woods. My dusty black mane fallowed. I stopped on the beaten down path

and looked behind myself. I saw a man riding a chestnut bay that had appeared out of no way.

He galloped to catch up with me. I galloped down the path as I tried to get away from the unknown horse.

The wild blue yonder became dark. Some dusky clouds came over the sky like when sin first appeared on this world.

White small specks started fall. I came to a big wall of rocks, dirt, and dead grass. Next to it was a frozen river.

I hid in a cave inside the wall. The man made his horse trot to a stop. He looked around but did not see me.

He then looked up at the sky and order his horse to gallop away. I stuck my head out of the cave to see if he was gone.

I snorted and the air formed a small gloomy cloud. I then walked out of the cave. Then I felt a coldness come over me.

My black now snowy coat shivered again. A small white snowflake fell upon my muzzle. I shook it off. I decided that it

was best if I slept inside the cave for the night. I walked back into the cave, I soon fell asleep leaning on the wall of

the cold rock wall in the cave. I awoke in the middle of the night to a yell not far from where I was. I heard it again. I

ran out of cave into the deep snow that had fallen when I was asleep, I didn't notice it I was too busy following the

yell. I came to a snowy ridge and I saw in the distance a figure. I trotted to the figure, and neighed a greeting to the

figure. I soon discovered that it was a young man that was yelling. He carried something in his hands, something heavy for he was stumbling in the snow.

“THANK GOD!” He slowly put down the something in the snow and then ran over me. He wiped his cold pale hand

over my snowy black coat. By doing so it wiped off the snow and it fell on the ground.

“Stay here,” He told me. He ran over to the that something on the snow and picked it up.

“ME?! How dare you!” I shook my head in defiance.

“Good girl,” The young man told me as he slowly put the something on my back.

The black horse shrugged as I saw what the something was.

“Well… I can’t just leave them out here to freeze,” I told myself as I looked at the the young

woman that was expecting a baby. The me the mare was waiting for the young man but he did not get
on.

“I love you,” The woman strangled to say it but got the words out.

The young man leaned over the horse and kissed the young woman’s cold hand.

Then he slapped me on the rear. In shock I ran away from him, but not to far. I halted to a stop and

looked at the man.

With tears in his eyes he called out, “GO!” He ordered. I did not understand but I obeyed. The

young woman was bundled up in wet snowy blankets. The young woman slowly got off of me when we had arrived at the cave.

After the woman had gotten off I trotted right out of the cave.

The snow that was falling was thick but I managed to find my way back to the man. I trotted up to

the man now half buried in snow.

His face was turning dark blue. I nuzzled him. His eyes slowly opened, a smile appeared on the

young man's face as he lifted his hand and rubbed my nose. His hand fell back onto the snow

making the snow under his hand fly up like dust. Now I was worried, I dug my head under the

snow where his arm was and my black snow filled head appeared on the other side of his arm.

He then grabbed my neck. I got up from my forefeet with the young man on my back. We

galloped back to the cave. By that time the young woman had a small worm fire going. She got

up from the side of the fire and ran over to help me the tired horse and the young man. The young

man got off, and the young woman helped him to the fire. The young woman ran back over to me

and hugged me.

"Thank you!" She told me. All I could do was to shake my head up and down. I walked over to the

fire and laid down next to them and fell to sleep.

(A few hours later)

"Joseph dear," The young woman said.

"Yes Mary?" Joseph answered.

"Thank you, for saving me," She told him as she looked in his eyes. The fire burned in them as

he stared into the fire. He took her hand.

"I wouldn't have if this horse hadn't shown up, I believe it was God who sent her," He smiled as

he looked to I asleep on the rock floor.

"Should we-," Mary looked to the cave enters the was a man with a bay horse.

"What you two doing out here in this weather?!" The man asked as he walk in. I now was awake

and up n her feet.

"I should ask the same thing..." Joseph asked.

"I am a Innkeeper and today I saw this horse and she lead me here I turned around because of

the storm, and well I was worried about her in this weather so here I am... You?" The man

answered and then asked.

"Well she saved our lives. We were stuck in the storm," He told him as he stood up and help his

Mary his wife up.

"Hello..." Mary shyly said.

"Hello," He then looked down at her stomach that was covered by her blue and white dress her

hand was on. "Oh my!" He rushed over to her.

"Yes," she smiled.

“You need to get out of this weather!” The Innkeeper told them

"Well... You don't happen to have a room for us to sleep in, so we can get out of this weather, do

you?" Joseph asked.

"Well, you see-, I do but-, umm... Well-," He struggled to say it.

"Well my Inn is full because of the storm, but-, do you mind sleeping in a stable?" The man

asked.

"Yes! Thank you!" Mary smiled a big smile.

"Okay then, follow me," The Innkeeper told them as he lead them out into the dark cold night.
They soon came to a large wooden Inn. The Innkeeper lea them into the stable which was apart

of the family room. I followed. The Innkeeper gave them blankets and then left.

"Nice guy," I thought. "He didn't even give me a treat!" She demanded.

(Long hours passed through the night)

"So before the Innkeeper found us I was going to say what we should name this horse..." Mary

told Joseph.

"Well I think-," He looked back to Mary that grabbed his shoulder. "Mary?" Joseph wondered in

fright.

"It's-, It's time!" Mary warned.

"WHAT!" Joseph got onto his feet.

I was eating out of a bed on hay and now turned my attention to screaming Mary.

(Another place with shepherds)

"So Aaron I fought a bear today," bored Ezekiel told Aaron around the camp fire.

"Cool... I fought on of those a week ago," Told Aaron.

"Cool..." Ezekiel said.

"Ezekiel, Aaron! I am trying to sleep!" Yelled Joel from his blanket on the ground.

"Cool...." Aaron nodded his head.

Then out of no where a bright light appeared.

Joel, Ezekiel, Aaron, and a little boy Caleb hid behind a log that Ezekiel and Aaron had been

sitting on.

"Do not be afraid!" Demanded a angel on the Lord. "I have come with good news!" The angel told.

"For the son of the living God has been born in Bethlehem, his name is Jesus, now go and find

him. I have set a star to guide you," The angel Gabriel rejoiced. Then other angels from the

Heavens appeared and sang.

After they left Caleb leaped to his feet.

"Lets go!" Caleb told them as he grabbed his drum from beside the fire.

"Do we have-," Aaron stopped.

"Do you really have to ask?" Asked Joel.

"Okay..." Aaron gave in.

(They travailed to Bethlehem to find this baby)

"What should we call him?" Joseph asked Mary.

"Jesus!” Mary answered.
“Are you sure? Jesus isn’t a common name, and-,” Joseph stopped he could see that Mary was not changing her mind.

The shepherds knocked on the door to the Inn.

"Yes?" The Innkeeper asked as he opened the door.

"Is the Lord's son here?" Asked Aaron.

"Aaron! Sorry is the baby Jesus here?" Asked Joel.

"Okay... Right this way," The Innkeeper told them.

The shepherds started to walk in his home.

"Wait! Don't step on that rug step on this old thing!" The Innkeeper ordered.

They soon found their way to the family room and saw Jesus sleeping in a manger.

"Wow! where did they come from?"I ask myself as I look at the baby and whiny.

The shepherds bowed in ow at the baby.

“I have nothing to give... To my King. But may I play my drum mam?” Caleb asked.

Mary nodded her head.

The music carried on through the night.

I look down to baby Jesus and smile. He giggled at me. His eyes were like rainbows that felt so free. I felt

captured by his love and grace that flowed out with his laugh. For I know now and always that he came to save us.

Now some people might think Christmas is about family, some presents, some even about

themselves, but Christmas is about the love that we share with our friends and family because

God captured us with his love and grace. Now that is what Christmas is about.

I hope this changes the way you think of Christmas and how it was done for I know I was

there,

Three Little Ponies
By Sessa Saunders

Far above the bustling town of Fabville lies the great Cloudsdale! This is a city made only of clouds; obviously this is where everything that is in the sky created. Who operates Cloudsdale you may ask? None other than the mighty Pegasus! Sadly not all Pegasus’s are given the opportunity to grow up with their family. This is the predicament for: Thunderbolt, Whisp, and Karizma who are brother and sister. Thunderbolt is the eldest, and the only boy in the family. His mane and tail are both gold as could be, and a soft gray coat. Whisp is the second eldest and the one who is shy, sensitive, timid and quite levelheaded. The youngest which is nothing like her brother and sister Karizma is: energetic, rambunctious gorgeous, brave, adventurous and can fly faster than any Pegasus! This tale begins at their first home with their mother Coco.

Rushing into the overly crammed one story cloud home was Karizma’s first mistake. Although Coco doesn’t usually mind the grand entrance made by her youngest today she scolded her quite harshly. After being scolded Karizma whirled around to face her mother, she wondered what was going on. Thunder came prancing through the doorway. He could tell his little sister had been scolded by the way she had her pale blue nose to the floor. Wearing a smug grin on his pale blue face he waltzed right past his sister while waving his golden mane to her and straight towards Coco. He greeted her by saying, “Good afternoon mother.” After hearing a slight sneeze escape and into the air they all turned their heads towards the doorway, what they found didn’t surprise them. Creeping through the threshold was none other than Whisp, her periwinkle coat was shivering at the mercy of the chill in the air. Coco opened her navy blue wings and swooped over to Whisp. Her blue eyes softened as she spoke these words, “Gather around children, for I have great news. I’m sorry children. But you are all not my little babies anymore. You all need a place to be where you can thrive, mature, and find who you are. This little house is about to collapse. I cannot protect you anymore; you must now make your own way in the world.” Karizma rushed to her mother’s side and began to sob. Although Thunder stayed back you could still see his eyes begin to glisten.
The next morning the ponies packed up their belongings. Standing in front of the little home they waved to their mother goodbye. Coco’s eyes glistened in the sunlight. Thunder was the first that took off into the opposite direction of the sun to look for a new home. Although she was the youngest Karizma turned north and fluttered her golden wings which took her at an alarming speed. Her rainbow mane and tail were waving every which way as she glided the skies. Whisp was the last to go the directions her siblings took “I wonder where I should go?” After pondering on that thought she decided to head downtown Cloudsdale. Sticking out her periwinkle wings Whisp gracefully flew in that direction. The thing that all these ponies didn’t know was that a horrible land grabbing Unicorn was going to try and take their land, and homes away from them!
“Now there’s a handsome spot to settle!” Thunder spoke to no one in particular. Just up ahead of him was a storm chasers paradise. He was going to live in the Storm Alley neighborhood. This is the place where all the storm clouds are placed once they are made in the cloud factory. Then they are moved on to the diverse locations they are needed by the Pegasus. After finding a nice little spot at the top of the stormy clouds Thunder thought he’d heard something. A machine perhaps, nah couldn’t be. Maybe a storm, no he would’ve sensed that. Right after that thought appeared what seemed to be a funky designed balloon with a basket at the end of the string. In that basket seemed to be a peculiar pony inside it. “A unicorn?” The words escaped my mouth before I even realized it. The Unicorn gazed up at me, it was a girl! She flashed me a dazzling grin. Her coat was a soft red with pink rose colored hair that was adorned with white heart barrettes. She spoke with a Hispanic voice “Pray tell you must be looking for a buyer?” I was puzzled but memorized by her purple eyes. “A buyer for what? Who are you fair Unicorn, you must have a name?” Her eyes fake sparkled. “Oh si kind sir, you must need a buyer for this dreary land. I am senorita valentine!” The first part was a little hazy but the last part hit him hard. “But I have only recently claimed this land.” Of course this land grabber had an immediate retort. “That means you can sell it easily darling.” The way she spoke, and looked made Thunder starry-eyed. With the swift movement of her hoof Valentina had the selling document and a pen in the other hoof. Once Thunder signed it the land was now hers. Still starry-eyed Thunder spoke “Want to ride some blue clouds together?” He inquired Hoping for a yes. The vain and selfish girl replied “Yea if I was two years old, so no, and for the record you had better stay off my land punk!” and with that the balloon vanished. The tears began to fall from the sad clouds and from Thunder…
After a long time of searching for Rainbow Ways Karizma finally found it! The magical place were all rainbows can be found. Once claiming a rainbow home Karizma began to explore her surroundings. Exploring new places always excited this adventurous girl, and seeing a balloon like structure in the distance made her curiosity meter over boil. Going at top speed she was there in two seconds, and what met her eyes made her blink twice. The only time she had ever seen a unicorn was when they had a field trip at Fabville. Before her now stood a stunning unicorn that held some sort of paper in her hoof. Pasting an overused grin to her face Valentina introduced herself. Karizma did the same, after the introductions were made Valentina commented on the beauty of Rainbow Ways. “But I know I’ve seen much more beautiful rainbows near Irish Cloves!” The way she crooned made Karizma believe her cockle bury story. “I have the papers right here” That did it, Karizma grabbed the blank sheet out of her hooves and signed it with the pen. “Where do I go to get to Irish Cloves?”Karizma inquired. Valentina replied in a raspy voice “Find it yourself chica, now get lost!” and with that the balloon of doom flew away
Once Whisp’s hooves touched the clouds at the end of town, she already felt like this was home. Looking down the lane of cloud scrapers that towered high into the clear blue sky Whisp knew she had to find an apartment. After a few minutes of searching Whisp found a building that said “Vacant” then finding her apartment at the top floor she stepped out onto the terrace that was covered with thin green vines. It made her feel like she was in her own garden. The feeling was gone as soon as she saw a mysterious object that was floating straight towards her. The “Thing” stopped and out stepped a unicorn. Valentina spoke with ease as she saw Whisp. She thought “This will be easy.” “Hello senorita!” Whisp didn’t look frightened at all. “Hello, goodbye.” Was all she said! Valentina was stunned, but quickly regained control. “I will take this land off you at a very high price.” She crooned trying to act kind. Whisp almost fell for it. “That’s alright, please excuse me.” And with that Whisp waltzed into her apartment. There was a knock at her door. She looked through the key hole and what she saw shocked her. “Karizma, Thunder!” Whisp let out with a happy glee. They were all smiling and hugging each other. “Don’t sell your land to Valentina!” Thunder warned. “I know she took my land as well” Karizma commented. “Well I’ll help you get it back” Whisp replied triumphantly, as though she already had. “How?” Both Thunder and Karizma replied in unison. They all laughed, “Until I figure out how you both can stay here!” Whisp offered. “Yes!” They both did the same thing again. Whisp was so glad they all were back together again. Things would be different, but at least they could face the ups and downs together!
