Throwin out an oddball movie, but I just got back from seeing Les Miserables. And I give it a 3 stars out of five.

I really wanted to like this movie, people I know were in it and it's one of my favorite musicals. However when musicals get turned into movies they tend to get butchered a bit, this one was no exception.

The biggest issue I had with the film was, well, the actual filming of it. I'd say nearly 85% of the movie was spent looking right into the actors face. The camera was so close you could practically count every eyelash and see right up their nose! Honestly, the cameras needed to back off the actors a LOT.

My second quarrel with the movie was the casting. Now the main character, Jean Valjean, is one of the greatest musical roles EVER. The singing is incredibly difficult, and it takes a really talented, well trained singer in order to do it well. Well they didn't cast a singer, they casted a movie star. He sang off key, ruined one of my favorite songs of the show, it was like a cheese grater to the ear.

The rest of the singers were very good. With the exception of one of the girls, Cosette, who had a really weird trill thing going on with her voice that sorta irritated me.

Overall though, this is an incredibly well done adaptation of the musical, and of the story itself. And that's important, because the story is incredibly complex (and depressing) and if executed poorly you could come out not even having a clue what you just saw. Which would be a shame, because if you can get past the grit of it all the story is actually rather enjoyable. It's a story of redemption and of determination, and the struggle over deciding what is right and what is wrong.

Les Miserables. Close, but no cigar. Also keep in mind for anyone interested in seeing this, it's rated pg-13, and it's weighing on the heavier side of that rating. A bit of curing, LOADS of violence (All the main characters except 2 die by the end), and some sexual themes. Also this movie runs a bit on the long side. If you can live with that though, I highly recommend it! It's a musical everyone should see sometime in their life, and this production of it is for the most part, very well done!

Last night, I got bored. So I came into my mom and dad's room. As it turns out, they were watching the newer version of Sabrina wit Harrison Ford. I rate it one star. There was nasty laungauge, an blec-here comes the worst part: tons of kissing. The only reason I rate it one star is because of Harrison Ford.
