Star of the Show
by DreamerGirl

Today was the big day.
The show competition.
The day of winning and losing.
Hardship and failure.
Courage and competition.
That may be going overboard a little bit, but it was about all of this. My rider whispers these kinds of things into my ear, telling me everything about her and the show.

And, I am that horse to compete.

I hear footsteps and perk my ears forward. I reach my head out the stall and see Elise, my rider and owner. Seeing her made me happy, and I nickered a greeting.

"Hey girl. You ready to be that Star of the Show?" She laughs before continuing. "See what I did there?"

Elise strokes my forehead, then walks away for a minute to get the grooming supplies. I shake my head free of flies as she comes back.

"You'll be ready in no time."

And so we were.
Ready for the show.

I felt her mount on to me and say a few calming words, then we're off.

"The next rider is Elise Matthews on Star of the Show!"

I heard my name announced "Star" but I didn't get the rest.

All I knew was that we were going to clear this round of jumps, and I was going to make Elise proud.

The first jump was done with no touch of my hooves to the pole.

The next was the same, and so were the others after.

We made it to the last one, and I gave it all I had. The next thing I heard was a lot of noise and Elise's proud words

"And...she has made a clear round!" Cheers erupt from the crowds and I prance to the exit.

"Good job, Star, you did it!" Elise wraps her arms around my neck and smiles.

We won.

And I was the Star of the Show.

Pepsi
jjpals

Pepsi is a light bay mare with black points. She is around 17 years old. One day I had left her standing in the barn "hallway" tied up, waiting for me to groom her. I just needed to grab a clean saddle pad to put on her before tacking up. As soon as I grabbed the saddle pad I needed from the tack room, I headed back to Pepsi. She was only 20-30 feet away from where I was headed. Apparently, she felt lonely within the 2 minutes I was gone. For there she stood, inquisitively looking at me in the doorway of the tack room! When I grabbed hold of her and led her back to where I had left her I found out her open window of escape. She had slid her halter off her head, feeling lonely I suppose. The crazy stinker! She does of a wonderful sense of humor, but this was taking it a bit far. I love her for it!

I thought I was right..
by kandydove

Mom always told me that horses had a mind of their own. Of course I believed her, that was a true fact to me. But what was a lie? When she said there was no such thing as a horse brain. All WE do is control them. All WE do is argue with them. No wonder why so many people get hurt around horses, the horses don't have a brain to THINK what they are doing/have done! But one day I realized... I was wrong. I was on the back of my steed, he saw a truck coming down the road, I didn't notice, but he did. I screamed when I realized then his ears perked up and he took me and himself to safety. I did NOTHING! I was motionless. I couldn't believe my eyes. He saved me? He has a brain? I ran to mom with Rocket's reins in my hands. 'MOM! ROCKET HAS A BRAIN! HE SAVED ME!' Mom didn't believe her ears. She thought I was crazy. She thought she was right about the no-brain thing. Once we realized its just us, just us that makes horses not listen usually we spread the right, true fact. We thought we were right, as we were wrong. But always keep in mind...... horses have smart brains. (Not a True Story)

Mikey.

My first pony, my love,

I almost felt as if he was an angel sent from above!

He was my best friend and the sweetest horse,

I loved him with all my heart of course.

We would jump and play and run around everywhere,

Being with him made me not even have a care.

I was a little girl when to me, Mikey was gifted,

And instantly my spirits were lifted.

After a few long years with this newfound friend,

I grew out of him and sent him on his way to another little girl's heart to mend.

I will never forget you, Mikey, my dear,

Forever in my heart and always mentally near.

True story.. <3
Love you always, Mikerz.

Stop Licking Me!
A Poem
By: Rabbit08

Stop licking me!
I tell my horse.
Does she listen to me?
Of course!
Not.
When will she know?
To let go?
Of this childish
habit
of licking.
But every day -
Out I walk.
And to my horse
every day I talk.
And every day -
though I say "Please do not lic

Run Away Home
by Jeppocat

My Palomino
went away long ago.
Lost out somewhere,
gone like thin air.

I miss her so.
why did she go.
I want her back.
She's lost on her track.

I'd never feel alone,
if she found here way home
If could find her
and she would find me too.

Please come home.
I miss you so.
Run away home!

Run back to me!
Let your spirit be free.
Wherever you roam,
please come back home.

Run, Run Run, Away Home.

He gallops through a young girl's dream,
and is flying it almost seems.

His neck is arched, and tail is high,
while soaring through the cloudless sky.

He whinnies as he gallops by,
holding his head high in pride.

Then he speaks in words so kind,
in the little girl's sweet mind.

Come with me my little one,
and we shall ride off into the sun!
