My Golden Protector Adventure #1       by: runnergirl12

With a yawn and a groan, I woke up. I opened my eyes and looked out the window. I saw a rising sun gold, pink, orange, and blue. I saw a lush green carpet of grass. 100 year old maple trees stood guard at the front of the house. Then my eyes fell on an empty stable and pasture. I blinked hard and tried not to let the tears flow. I missed my old pony, Cowboy. My parents offered to buy me another pony, but it wouldn't be the same.

The new morning, it seemed, was bursting with a secret and promises. I sighed, got up from the bed, and brushed my hair and teeth. I plopped down the stairs and into the bright kitchen. I saw my mom cleaning our new table.

"Hi Mom," I said. My mom jumped a little and turned around.

"Good Morning sweet pea. Wow you scared me" my mom answered.

I grabbed an apple and a carrot and started to the door. My mom stopped me. "Where are you going?" My mom wanted to know.

"I thought I'd go down to Wiggins and visit Acorn and Snow White. And maybe walk through the town. My mom had a funny look on her face.

    "What?" I wondered out loud.

"In those clothes?" asked my mom. I looked down and blushed. I was still in my fuzzy blue pajamas. I ran upstairs and got changed.

As I charged out the door and onto the trail to Wiggins I heard a neighing sound. I slowed down, but couldn't see anyone. I ran the rest of the way to Wiggins. I heard the neighing sound twice. But each time I looked around I didn't see anyone.

Acorn! Snow White! I half-yelled. They both started trotting over to me. No, wait. Acorn wasn't there. Just then I heard a crashing sound behind me. I spun around and let out a huge sigh of relief. It was only Anna, Pam, and Lulu.

    "Hi guys," I said brightly.

    "Hello," they all sighed.

"Where's Acorn?" I asked Anna. Anna turned to me and i saw tear streaks on her face.

"Oh Anna." I gasped. I hurried to her side and gave her a hug. I got a squeeze back. I understood what happened from the look on Anna's face. Acorn was lost!

"I'll help you guys look for him," I declared.

" You would!? Thanks you'll be a great help." Lulu said to me.

Then I heard the neighing sound again. HHmm. Nobody else gave the sign they had heard something. Pam handed me a whistle and told me to use it if I got in trouble. I thanked Pam and headed west to look for Acorn. West was the direction I heard the neighing sound.

The neighing sound got louder and louder, and the sun rose higher and higher. Still no sign of Acorn. But wait, there! Some hoof prints. 2 pairs to be exact. I wonder where Acorn had found a friend. Oh well, I have to keep on looking for him. Just when I thought I saw him and heard the neighing sound again, I heard growling and snarling. Something was chasing me. I started to run.

Then I stumbled and fell into a small clearing. I got a look at my chaser. A huge, growling, snapping, cougar. I remember thinking WHAT?!?! Then I saw a flash of gold. I gasp, a huge, strong, brave horse, the color of the setting sun, jumped to protect me.I remember my whistle and blew into it. The sound was long, sharp, and piercing. It startled the cougar and the horse chased him off.

Through the sudden quiet I hear a nicker. Acorn. I stood up and clipped on a lead rope. As I was walking back heard the neigh. It was the golden horse. His eyes seemed to say,  You are mine. I am yours. I will watch over you. This isn't the last you'll see of me. There are more adventures waiting to be explored. I'm your secret. Keep it.
Then he was gone.

I hear a lot of footsteps and then Dr. Crandal appears with Pam, Anna, and Lulu. they wanted to know what happened and I told them. Anna was busy hugging Acorn, Pam and Lulu were smiling at me and each other. I told them everything, everything except Dark Sunshine, the gold horse. Dr. Crandal told us that a man was illegally keeping the cougar as a pet then let it go into the woods when it got too big. That must've been my cougar. I knew the horse was my secret, I didn't know exactly why yet but I will. Then I grinned, thinking about my mom's  expression when I told her what happened today. I heard a whicker of laughter from a horse.
