Practice Race with Stacy by Catstem

"Run like the wind girl! Come on, you can do it! The practice race against Stacy is tomorrow!" I shouted.

We crossed the line of sticks I had made for practicing and I clicked "stop" on the timer. 36 seconds for a practice around the forest.

"Alright!" I said. We're doing better by the minute!" I reached down and rubbed my horse Starlight's neck. Then I scratched his forehead right on the star and he loved it.

The next day Stacy came over and we got our horses ready for the practice. We shook hands and got on our horses. I, Lucy, on Starlight and Stacy on her horse New York. " Ready, set, go!" I shouted.

We started at a trot, then I got to a canter first and was ahead. She got to a canter and started catching up to me. Then I got to a gallop and took the turn. Then she got to a gallop and took the turn. At the forked path I followed the red flag marking I made so we would know the right way.

Stacy came into sight and was right behind me, until I took the next turn. New York hit a bush at the turn and stopped. Then Stacy got her going again. I was almost done and my heart was racing. I saw the line of sticks.

Stacy and New York caught up and were right next to Starlight and I. We were still about a foot ahead of her. Then New York bucked Stacy off and cantered off the wrong way.

Starlight's hooves hopped over the line and Stacy got up. I got off Starlight and tied him to a tree. I walked over and helped Stacy up. We both rode on Starlight and found New York lying on the ground. Stacy got off and helped her up. From then on we walked our horses home, and everything was fine. New York just got frightened when she bucked, and exhausted when she was lying on the ground.
