The Lucky Charm by Wacky (Eleanor G)

As Maggie woke up she realised it was her birthday. She wished her parents had gotten her a new rug for her horse Ginger. She got dressed and walked downstairs.

"Morning....."said her mother wearily as she rubbed her eyes. There were no presents on the table, or anywhere to be seen. How could anyone forget her birthday? She had circled the date on the calender and had been hinting about it all week. Just my luck she thought. Maggie walked out the back door and onto the porch. Something caught her eye. Shining bright near the gate of Gingers paddock, was a small, horse shaped pendant. Maggie picked it up. What a lovely charm, she thought. Maggie slipped it into her jeans pocket and went into Gingers paddock.

"Hey there girl!"she exclaimed as she hugged her horse tightly. Gingers chestnut coat was gleaming in the sun."At least you're still my friend" she whispered.

Maggie fetched Gingers halter and fastened it around the horse's neck. She tied the lead rope to the bailing twine and began to saddle up her horse. As she shoved the saddle on her horse's back, she heard a voice.

"Hey, watch it!". Maggie looked around. No one was there. She continued to yank the girth up.

"Stop it, that really hurts!"came the voice again, much louder. Maggie looked around, no one was near her. As she clanked the bit againsted her horses teeth, the voice came for a third time. "Didn't you hear me, thats really uncomfortable and downright careless."

"C..c....can you talk?" Maggie whispered.

"Well, now i can thanks to that charm of yours!"

Ginger exclaimed. Maggie was shocked.

As she swung herself onto her back, Ginger groaned. "Are you going to make me jump that tiny thing over and over again, just like last time?" Ginger asked.

Maggie sighed, "Maybe this charm is a burden."

As they trotted around the arena, doing endless circles, Ginger bucked.

"Hey! what was that for?" Maggie shouted.

"Its SO BORING, can't we do something fun?"

Maggie just gave her a whack with the crop. She made Ginger jump the boring jump and jumped off. She led the horse back to its stall and began to unsaddle.

"Wake up, wake up!"came a voice. A blur came into vision. Her mother was shaking her. "Its your birthday, darling!". Maggie looked hazily around.

She was lying down on her bed, in her room. Oh, it had all been a dream she thought. Perhaps......... perhaps maybe today we will jump a different jump, and we will work on transitions instead of circles, and maybe i will clean her tack Maggie wondered.

Maggie got dressed and went out to see her horse. " Hi there, girl!"she exclaimed. And as she looked into her stall, she saw a lovely new rug. Maggie put her had in her pocket, and pulled out a small, horse shaped pendant.
