ok so wear for english:
a helmet(in the us it should be atsm sei setified)
paddock or tall boots(with paddock boots i suggest half chaps)
jodphurs or breeches(aka riding pants)
jeans(make sure u wear half chaps or they will rub and it hurts)
gloves(aka hand protecters LOL!!!! :))
if ur friend says u will need 1 a body protector (aka a protective vest)
a shirt that is comfy and u r ok getting dirty
for western:
jeans (no half chaps)
cowboy boots (instead of paddock or tall boots)
a comfy shirt(that u r ok with getting dirty)
gloves (i think, sorry i ride english)
helmet (in usa atsm sei certified 2 protect ur head)
and i no u dont use 1 4 western riding but if ur friend says u need 1 body protector (i really doubt u will wear 1 western)

Sometimes people say their horse gets spooked or distracted then they do something like *Goes into my pony's stall and cries*Do not do that.

Hannah, you're absolutely right about that - though the other end of the scale is getting all upset because you don't win. The ribbons don't really matter. As long as you're having fun, that's all that counts.
Paint the Wind, you're right, too. Lessons are not supposed to be about drama. It's a way to imagine riding properly - imagining it does really help. I had to take about 6 months off riding, because I just wasn't well enough to go anywhere. I took virtual lessons, and it really helped to keep that information in my head. And, guess what? when I rode again, my position had hardly changed. My left ankle turns out again (I used to do ballet), which puts my balance off a little, but I'm working on that.
Yes, some horses do buck, spook, or shy regularly, but does it really need to come into lessons?
Also, tip for riders who find that their ankles can be a little floppy while riding - try wrapping them with either a horse's leg wrap, a crepe bandage, or some other kind of stretchy bangage. Start behind your ankle, bring it forward across the top of your foot, and wrap it underneath. bring it back up, wrap behind your ankle, and repeat. you should end up with a figure 8 around your ankle and foot.

My tip is to practice. Practice makes perfect, right? And if you didn't win any ribbons, try again at the next show!

Honestly for lessons:
A big must: Don't cause trouble or mischief especially regarding the misbehavior of a horse.
Example: Slew bolts off with me bucking, running through all the horses in front, spooking and kicking them, and I fly off into the next country.

Exaggerated examplexD But you get the point. So dont be like" Slew kicks (horses or players name) while waiting for ribbons. I say sorry and blush and correct him" Dont even bother! It is virtual so our ponies do well...literally what we say they do! I mean sometimes if it is not disruptive it may be ok to say "JC, I am having trouble with my horse. He is(pulling, nipping,or whatever small thing like that). Do you have any tips on how to fix it?" Jc is very kind and happy to help but just try to not make it interfere with the rest of the riders in the lesson:)
