What's the weather like in your neck of the woods? We are still wearing short sleeves. I think I've put a jacket on once, but I got warm so I took it off. LOL We're getting some rain once in a while so I can't complain.
Any plans for Christmas that you guys would like to share? How do you celebrate the holidays with your families? |

I am working on part of a cat story, and I wanted to test this one part on a bunch of knowledgable people. ANybody familiar with Warrior Cats? Well, this is my own story based on that-different characters, blah de blah. Here goes:
THe darkness pressed down on her like a choking cloud of smoke. Her heart beat quickly, and her eyes, stinging with the strain of seeing in the blackness, darted back and forth, afraid of what might approach in the stinking darkness.
As she struggled in a breath through the thick smog-like atmosphere, her chest tight, she heard a soft slithering.
Slowly, silently, her claws slid out and her muscles tensed.
Her jaw tightened and she narrowed her eyes, laying back her ears as the slithering grew louder, broken by slow shuffles.
Her heart beat wildly, until she thought it was about to burst from her chest.
But still the thing came on.
SHe crouched, tail curled around her haunches, and her claws dug into the slimy earth.
But then her ears shot straight up, and her eyes widened, as a familiar, hissing voice murmured softly,
"Hello, Herbstar."
See how you like it. COmment on it if you want and tell me if there's anything I should change.

Nat2 & The Price of Valor | | 2013-02-25 05:32:36 | | I would probably take out "stinking" before darkness. If you still want an adjective you could choose one that refers to feeling, such as "thick" or "suffocating", or sight, such as "inky". Or use a thesaurus to find a better word than those.
I might see what else I could substitute for "thick smog-like atmosphere" . Perhaps "suffocating" would work better here, to modify "atmosphere".
I think you have done a great job creating a tense atmosphere. I found myself breathing more shallowly when I was finished reading it! |
