***Clicker Club***Hi. I'm Alyssa. Can I join? If I can, I want to know a few things. My mare, Tica, is living out in the wilderness right now and not being ridden because the snow is too deep. I'm afraid that when spring comes, she'll have no respect for me when I try to ride her. Is there anything I can do to remind her to still have respect for me? Please reply.
Alyssa | Alyssa & Night Fury | 2011-02-17 23:53:18 | | Okay, I'm writing on my own account now, instead of Nat's. I goofed last time. LOL
Lisa, I know there are probably several different ways to go about teaching your horse to nod, but I have never done it. I will look and see what information I can find, though, okay?
| EagleGirl & Deerslayer | 2011-02-18 03:27:05 | | HI Alyssa, Welcome! Yes, there are some things you can do when the weather improves. You may want to spend a little time reminding her that you are her friend. Then, do some groundwork. If you haven't charged the clicker, that is the first thing you will want to do. Then you might work on targeting for a bit.
When you are working with her, you can ignore any unacceptable behavior, as long as it is not potentially dangerous. Look for "good" things, and click for those.
This is very general. But if you will write in and let us know how Tica is once you bring her in for spring, we can go into more specifics.
We're glad to have you! | EagleGirl & Deerslayer | 2011-02-18 03:30:52 | | Ok. Thanks, Eagle! | Alyssa & Night Fury | 2011-02-19 18:46:51 | | Well, let me see. I'm not very good at this...Um, well, take a cat toy, like the ones with the feathers on the end, and take it out to your horse. Get your horse used to it, by letting him target it, then lower it down. When he bends his head to touch it, you click. Did I do that badly again? | Nat2 & The Price of Valor | 2011-02-23 03:50:34 | | A clicker. THe little boxes with the thin piece of metal in it. When you press, it clicks. So, 'click' is the 'click'er. | Nat2 & The Price of Valor | 2011-02-23 18:06:10 | | Eagle, what does the Clicker do? And where can I buy it. I don't have one, so I'm wondering what it does and where I can get it. | Alyssa & Night Fury | 2011-02-24 18:06:44 | | Well, mind you, this is Nat talking, not Eagle, you can get them at most pet stores, I believe. Coolguy and I each got one, his is blue and mine is red. Would it help if I sent a picture in to guide you in your Quest For The Clicker? | Nat2 & The Price of Valor | 2011-02-24 21:08:28 | | Well, you can click with your tongue, but that might take too long. A Clicker is the best. | Nat2 & The Price of Valor | 2011-02-25 02:45:41 | | I agree with Admin. THey work well, except on my fat lazy cat. Nothing works on him. | Nat2 & The Price of Valor | 2011-02-25 21:09:47 | |
