August Story Contest Age 10 & Under

I staggered to my feet and perked up my head. I heard footsteps.
Maya's little sister Robyn had come to visit me. With my bad knee and all, she was scared for me.
Robyn grabbed my brush box and lifted the lid. She slipped on a body brush and pressed against my body. I struggled to stand in the same place so I moved aginst the wall for support.
She picked up a strange looking object-a mane puller.
That's when I thought I was in trouble..
She had ruined many pony's manes and they've never semmed to grow back straight...
Heehee were the thoughts that came to me.

Maya walked out of the house to see Robyn messing about in the barn, in her PJ's!!
"Robyn!"
"What?!"
"Mum is going to kill you. But wait, not if I kill you first! Why are you up at this hour in your PJ's grooming my horse?"
"Um, well..."
"It's ok. No need to worry Rob!"

Maya looked at me in dispare.
At least I didn't have my mane pulled!!
"You funny thing Gemini!"
I was scratching my rump against the stable door...

Chance reared, then came down and galloped away. Leaving Katherine standing there, she shook in fright as she heard a growl, The mountain lion! Why did Chance leave her? "CHANCE!!!" She called. "Chance, Chance, Come back!" Chance was gone. Chance was really gone, "You and me had a bond, a really really strong bond!" She was more than upset now...

"Ahhh!" Katherine said when she woke up. "That was all a dream? It must of been."

Katherine had breakfast and then went to do her barn-chores. First she fed Dream, Kane and Diesel. She groomed the very same horses, Then she went to the stallion barn. Midnight Light was waiting. Chance was a gelding, so he wasn't here. Next geldings. When she was done, she went inside. Shetland thoughts filled her head. She went back to her room. Chance. Chance. she knew she had E-mails on the computer, tons. "Text, Text, Text" she sighed. "E-mail, E-mail, E-mail" She opened the computer screen. Oh my gosh!" she said. "50 E-mails! That can't be true!" Her cat Poppy came into the room. "Oh Poppy" She sighed "It will take forever and ever! I'm never going to get out of this room! Never ever, ever, ever! Come on, I wish this computer would corporate with me and answer all those at once!"

When she finally answered all those she went to ride Chance around the farm. No more lions today she thought.

chapter one.

Hi i'm, Anna this is the story of when i wonted a horse.when i decided to save my money for a horse. it started a couple weeks before my birthday. i was just about to get my allounce and i thought iv'e all was wonted a horse,so i started to save and i started to search for horses for sale. and i hadn't found any in my bought and i all most gave up but i didn't and i started to think of what i would name the horse if it didn't have a name and what breed of horse i wonted and what age. i did all the research for the grooming and tack supplies and found every thing. and i decided that i would never have anouf money for a nice saddle so i thought i would just by a bear back pad it would work out fine and it did.

chapter two.

and i thought of the name i chose which was Jess and i would all so buy some cheaper brushes to groom him/her with. and i all so decided too get a quarter horse whit a chestnut coat color so the horse would be good to trail ride with and for some farm work and to this day i am still saving.
The End.

The Horse's Girl
By JordanHudson

The wind whipped my hair as it blew strongly. He paused, pawing the ground as if waiting for me to leap on his back and fly away. I stared in his wild black eyes smiling and softly stroking his glossy fire red coat. ”You're very handsome, young stallion. You are like the wind's brother; once you fly, you soar faster. May I ride you, wild one?” I softly whispered in his ear. He whinnied, tossing his head and then looking at me. “Alright then.” I answered. I slowly placed my hand lightly on his back. He bobbed his head up and down, eccepting my request. I slowly put a little more pressure on his back, then a little more. When at last I was putting all my weight on his back, I slowly and carefully pulled myself up onto him. He whinnied a quiet, but frightful whinny, for he wasn't yet used to it. After about 5 minutes of stillness and patience, he got used to my weight. “That wasn't too hard, now was it boy? Alright, we're gunna' start at a nice slow walk, ok? Let's go boy. You know, you sure do look like Fire. I wonder what your name is...but until I find out, I'll call you Flash Of Fire - Fire for short.” I told him. He neighed happily probably because he liked the name, but I wasn't really sure. I slowly grabbed his mane and clutched it lightly in my hands. As Fire was about to turn, he stopped in his tracks. It was quiet for about three seconds, until he took off like a bullet. His hooves were pounding against the ground like drums. What sounded like two horses running, I could only see Fire, but I wasn't about to turn around and check. Suddenly, a huge herd of wild horses were beginning to saround us, and I knew I hadn't done anything to make Fire run, they had! Fire kept running, trying to race to the front of them. As I turned to look behind us, I caught a slight glimpse of what seemed like a huge black stallion. I didn't really care what he looked like, all I wanted to do was get away from all those horses. “Fire, help! I'm scared!” I yelled in a kind of voice that sounded like crying and fear both at the same time. Tears were streaming down my face at what felt like faster then I had ever cried. I knew Fire couldn't have heard me, for with all these horses and their hooves pounding against the ground, it sounded like a million guns going off all at the same time. But something strange happened. About 5 seconds after I said that, Fire took off at what felt like 75 miles per hour. He raced to the front of the heard like lightning, and turned the oppisate direction, which was straight toward the horizon. I turned to look to see how far behind the herd was, and could only see a small speck of blackish bay or some other kind of color. I threw my hands up in the air wildly and smiled ear to ear. “Yeah!” I yelled laughing. Fire whinnied for joy, and reared up in happieness. “Woah, boy.” I said, and he landed calmly on the ground. I leaped off his back and hugged his neck so hard he might have choked. I never wanted to let go of him, but eventually he wiggled his way out, without hurting me. My eyes locked on his, and quietly, I whispered “I love you so much, Fire. I'm never going to break you, or hurt you, or sell you to someone else. You're my secret.”. I could almost here him whisper back, “And I will never hurt you, or disobey your commands. You're my secret. I love you to, my wild girl.”
