August Story Contest Age 12 and over

Well, Becky, It's a really long story. I'd only post a little more this month, there would still be plenty to post.

Age Thirteen Part 3: The Cause

Part 3: The Cause
When I opened my eyes everything was blurry. There were two nurses on both sides of my bed and I thought they were holding me down. I was in a room that was similar to the place at registration only it was bigger. I noticed I couldn’t move my left hand because there was a board under it and a yellow and white wrap that reminded me of a horse protection boot. It was wrapped because I had an IV in. My right arm had a bandage over it. Neither the IV nor the surgery hurt afterwards.
One of the nurses asked if I wanted her to bring in my mom and dad. I nodded my head. My eyes wanted to remain shut. I watched my parents-who looked like fuzzy blobs to me-enter the room. My mom tried to talk to me but my words came out as groans instead. I noticed it was hard for me to swallow. This was because they had put a tube down my throat after they had put me under but removed it after the surgery.
The nurse in the room was making arrangements for me to stay overnight in the hospital. I met my radiologist during the surgery and watched the beginning of a movie. It took a while before I was moved to a room. There was one other girl in the room with me and we were separated by a curtain.
I learned that the clot extended from my shoulder to almost my elbow in my right arm! It was caused because my collar bone and first rib was pushing on my vein. I would be on the injection again after I was release from the hospital to prevent another clot. I got to meet the doctor that arranged the surgery, as well but not the surgeon.
A surgeon from a different hospital came to visit me that that evening. He said I had Thoracic Outlet Syndrome. It caused the clot. He explained he would have to remove my first rib. It meant another surgery for me. I would be in a sling for three weeks after the surgery, too. The surgeon wanted to do the surgery next week but I wanted to finish out my school year, so it would have to take place the week after. It pretty much sounded like my horse showing season was done.

Well, here's another part with more to come next month, again. ~Lizzy1
