My Summer Story
By caitrin

When summer starts I would always go to the stables and see my pony Dime.He would neigh when he seen me I gave him a few carrots then take him out on a hack. When I got back I got back I would think about me being a jokey when i'm older. Then i would go and look at some of the ponies at the Olsons. I always liked the chestnut paint.I'd go to the store and get feed and tack. I would also groom daisy and splash and I had found two lost kittens. I always wanted a black pony named magic but I don't have a enough money so ive been entering contests. On holiday to England their had been a famous race horse moonshadow had been stolen from a stable but they got him back. WHAT A HOLIDAY.

My Summer Story
By Atmosphere

It all started when I was nine. My friend,Daisy, had horses five or six Appaloosas. They only lived down the road, and they were on the route to where I went to school. I asked my mum to pull over so we could stroke them, and soon. It became a habit. Every weekday at 3:20pm me and my mum would pull up and the horses would be waiting by the gate for us. Over the summer holidays, we walked up. Soon they got used to my voice, and if they weren't waiting at the gate or we'd come at a different time, Id whistle for them. Every week day at 3:20pm we'd pull over to pet them, bringing them carrots and apples. They started to get used to me, and I started to like them. Id been coming for about 3 weeks, they knew me now, so much that if they weren't at the gate at 3:20pm or if we'd come on the weekend and they weren't expecting us, Id whistle for them. They'd come thundering up the hill, Agnes: a black Warmblood mare would lead the herd up, followed by Billy: a piebald cob yearling, Jazz: A dun blanket Appaloosa filly, Indie: a piebald cob mare (Billy's mum), Perdy: A brown blanket Appaloosa mare and Rio: a chestnut and white spotted mare (She looked like a giraffe!)I was so happy. My favourite was Jazz. I spoke to her more than I spoke to my family, I guess. If I just wanted to stroke her instead of the whole herd, I just called her name followed by two short sharp whistles, and she'd come. I remember running around the field with her and she would follow me, my mum would stand at the gate looking worried, but I knew Jazz wouldn't hurt me. When Agnes came up the hill, I saw that she had a round belly, she was expecting a foal. It was the beginning of the holidays, and I nagged and nagged my mum to take me horse riding, I loved being around horses! Finally- She gave in. When she told me, I remember putting my riding hat on and running around the garden, like I was riding a horse. I was really looking forward to horse riding. The first place we went to wasn't much good, but it took me just under a year to realise it. I'd learnt rising trot, but no jumping. Until finally we went to the riding school I'm at now. Its amazing, I came on in leaps and bounds, I can now canter bareback, jump over one metre and I'm basically a horse encyclopedia! But I'd had horsey experiences before I was ten, when I was five I used to draw horses in my auntie's bible and ask God to buy me a horse. I still want a horse, and I never even thought that Id be going horse riding, but I am. I never thought I could jump over a metre, but I can. I never knew that Id be so happy around horses, but I am. Now I ride on a Saturday, for an hour, a Friday (bareback) for an hour and every other Wednesday at my friends yard for half an hour. I never thought Id be where I am today. My dream would be to ride at the Olympics, and one day I believe Ill do it. Its my birthday on September the 8th, I know I wont get a horse, because my family doesn't have the money, but it doesn't stop me from dreaming and believing that Ill get a horse one day. And I guess, what I'm trying to say is don't give up on your dreams. They might seem impossible and way out of reach, but if you try, you can make it. If you don't love something, you'll fail. If you don't love what you're doing, then you'll give up and its the love and the passion for what your dream is that keeps you going. And if anyone tells you you can't do it, then ignore them. People who tell others to give up on their dreams have already given up on their own. And when I go to see the horses, theres two new additions to the herd. Agnes's beautiful black Warmblood colt and Jazz's palomino/dun blanket filly.
And they're doing great.
