Storm Horse
by: lyki4484

There is a horse herd of spirits of all storms. These are not spirits of the dead, but spirits of new life. These spirits travel the world as any kind of storm. When a colt is born, it is sent away from the herd and sky and sent to the ground on the third storm after he is born. It is possible that on the trip through the storm to the earth, that the colt could change genders while changing from a spirit to a mortal. The gender change is rare, but isn't a mortal storm horse as well?

******

Rain walked back to the herd with her new companion. He jumped and ran circles around her, a rumble of thunder with every hoof step. The two arrived at the herd as Tornado, the herd leader, approached them. Tornado sniffed the excited colt. The colt was immediately surrounded by clouds that thundered all around him.
Thunder, his name.
When Tornado finished his inspection, the thunder clouds evaporated.
For the next two storms, Thunder grew stronger. He galloped around, played with the other foals, and he even sent thunder at Wind when she tried blowing him away. On the third storm, the lead mare, Lightning, summoned - well lightning - to send the colts to earth. All colts who had previously challenged Thunder were swirled to defeat from his tornadoes.
Each flash of lightning sends a colt somewhere he will have a purpose.

Thunder touched noses with his mother as a goodbye when Tornado called for all the colts to come to the center of a huge cloud. Thunder watched as Hail was flashed into a lightning bolt, leaving blue smoke where he once stood. He left remaining a colt. Snow went next and was also left remaining blue smoke. Thunder was called next from Tornado's powerful neigh. He walked to the center, every step was a thunder boom, every herd member watching, and every nerve in his three-storm old body trembling.
He stood in the center. Tornado gave the signal, and Lightning flashed Thunder with her lightning bolt. Before the bright flash swallowed him, Thunder's last sight of the herd was Tornado's troubled face.
Then he was surrounded by an intense, brilliant light. Then with blue smoke, then purple smoke, red smoke, and finally pink smoke.
A filly. He - now she - was a girl. Finally, the intense, bright light disappeared around her, leaving her on soft grass. It felt different compared to the plush clouds Thunder was used to jumping around on. What also felt different when she changed from colt to filly. She felt more powerful.
Overwhelmed by the trip, the change, and the bright light, Thunder collapsed and slept on a bed of grass.

The Way I Jump
by Charity Hope

Prologue
I ran my hands up along Disco's neck, giving him rein as I leaped into the two-point position. The piebald rocked back onto his haunches and propelled over the ditch, not even glancing at the water below. He bounded through the creek, splashing through the foam before he scrambled up the bank. I counted down the strides in my head as I directed him to the double combination.
One, two, three, and up! The Quarter Horse tucked his forelegs into his chest, landing softly before he took off again after the two short strides between. I felt him tighten his muscles and rush beneath me, but I checked him with a half halt. He tossed his head and bended round the corner out of the forest, eyes rolling.
The wild cheering of the crowd echoed throughout my ears, and it seemed to energise Disco. His hooves thudded against the grass and I leaned forward, grinning. We had this in the bag. Disco and I would pull off first place by a long shot; no problem.
We jumped two more logs and the finish line came into view. I didn't even see the last brush jump looming ahead of us as I pushed Disco into a flying gallop, asking more and more of him. He started to huff and foam bubbled around the edges of his mouth, his girth soaking from sweat. "We've got this, boy." He stretched his entire body out and I stopped thinking about the risk of what could happen if he made just one little misstep. Coach Anderson's early warning about taking it easy was pushed to the back of my mind, and I went on autopilot. We were going to win. I knew it. The big golden trophy was just metres from us, and all I could think about was being crowned international champion. The loudspeakers were blasting at full volume, voices rising louder and louder in excited manners. I stared at the red and blue banner up ahead and urged Disco forward. One, two-
I didn't even get to three. Disco dug his hooves into the soil and planted himself at the last minute, legs failing as he skidded right into the brush. Next thing I knew, I was flying over the jump. But this time, I was alone.
I swung my arms around in a desperate attempt to grab onto his mane, but I was too late. The whole world was rushing around me, until it stopped.
I landed back first next to the brush jump, staring up at the sky, my head spinning. My entire body went numb and I gasped, the wind knocked right out of me. What just happened?
The blood-curling pain brought me back to life. Everything hurt. I wanted to cover myself with Disco's rug, ashamed. Confusion overwhelmed me. Where was I? No! The realisation was too hard. It couldn't be true. But here I was, sprawled out on the ground, motionless. Not in the saddle. I'd let my team and my coach and my parents down. Most of all, I let Disco go.
Strange faces crowded around me and distant voices murmured. Someone removed my helmet and kept my head escalated. I caught onto parts of different conversations.
"Is she breathing?"
"Where's the first aid kit?"
"...Somebody grab that horse!"
But the worst one was something I wish I hadn't heard. The undeniable voice of Adam Woods, the spectator of our team's eventing.
"Oh, what a shame for poor Jada! She was so close to beating the record of the quickest time of this difficult cross country course. It looks like she'll have to be disqualified, folks, and out of the running for international champion of the year!"
A lump formed in my throat and I squeezed my eyes shut, opening them again to see my Mum's worried face, scanning my head. Dad stood over me, his face pale and panicky. An ambulance siren wailed.
"Can you wriggle your fingers for me?" Coach Anderson pressed his hand against my forehead, the most shock expression spread over his emotions. I'd never seen him look so scared.
"Where's Disco?" I barely whispered. "Is he okay? Where is he? Did you find him?"
A breathing tube was strapped around my mouth and I was hauled onto a stretcher. I tilted my head as far as the restrainers would allow and my eyes became blurry, fogged up with tears. Disco wasn't anywhere.
Then everything went black.

My first horse
By: Sami(horsecrazy2001)
(fiction)

It was Thanksgiving morning. My mom told me she had gotten me an early present. We live on a small farm in Northern Minnesota with chickens and a couple of cattle. We also have a dog kennel because I have a sled dog team for in the winter. We have two big barns that the person that lived before us here personally built himself! We also have obviously a chicken coop. One of the barns is where my huskies stay and the other is empty because our cattle go into a shed when it rains or heavily snows. We have a total of sixteen acres and are surrounded by woods. The empty barn is where I hang out usually. I woke up and my Labrador, Allie was whining at me. I went downstairs and my parents had guests already over. We were eating already. We had turkey, ham, mashed potatoes, veggies(yuck), lots and lots of gravy, bbq weenies, taco dip, and for the best part, pumpkin and cherry pie for dessert! It all went by very quickly; I was tired and really full! My mom came into my room and said “you probably want to see your early present.” “Omg I almost forgot!” I said surprised. My mom handed me a blue halter and lead rope and then I got super excited! She was getting me tack!!!! She had not let me go into my barn for the past two weeks. It made me mad because my barn is my place, you know? She started walking to the barn so of course I followed her. She put a blindfold on me, held my hand, and walked me into the barn. She unblindfolded me and I screamed out loud! She had gotten me a strawberry roan horse!!!! Omg omg omg!!! She is beautiful mom!!!! I yelled! She is a Quarter horse mare. She is five years old and is halter broke, picks her feet up well, and stands still when you brush her! But she doesn’t like to trailer well so we will have to watch out for that. She does English competitions and has been ridden western once. We got you ankle protectors, an English saddle, a pink blanket, and a Black English bridle. Thank you so much mom!! I yelled.
A year later.
Are you ready? My Mom asked. We were at my first show, at a stable called Turn Crest Stable. It was an English pleasure show. Walk, trot, and canter. I’m really good at each of those gaits, but I get nervous in front of other people. I named my horse Ali. She’s been really good and we have gotten along really well too. After about two months she had finally allowed me to sit on her bareback while she was grazing. I was holding her in the barn while the show before me finished. I was riding all be myself in this show. Now do you get why I was so nervous? That’s a huge crowd out there, some I know, and most I don’t. Atleast that was a little relieving since I wouldn’t ever see them again. “Next shower is up in five minutes. Practice time in the arena till then.” The judge called out. Lots of people told me good luck. I went in there and mounted so I could practice. I went from walking one round to a posting trot. I trotted most because I do have troubles trotting sometimes. But I had been practicing for three weeks. “ OK riders. Next shower is up! Is that you ma’am?” she asked me. “ yes it is me.” I said. I started in the center and walked up to her, posed, and then started walking around the arena. I walked for about five or six rounds around the arena. “ok good job, now start a sitting trot.” She said. I tapped Ali with me heel lightly so she would know to only do a light trot. It was the same routine. I could feel so many eyes watching me. It was so scary. After what seemed like forever, twice trotting once walking, and once cantering, I was finally done. Two hours later when everyone was finally done, they were announcing winners. “Third place goes to Charlotte and Rudy, second goes too Anna and Joe and first goes too.” I froze when she stopped. Had I maybe tied with anybody? Did I even win? It scared me a little. “Sorry for the stop. It appears we have a tie between two of our competitors, Sami and Andy.” They said. “So now we will have them both compete again and the winner will be determined.” Come on! I have to compete again, darn it!!! I did the same thing, but I think I may lose. I was shaking a lot! When I dismounted I almost fell over from shaking so much. When Andy was doing his show, he kept falling out of rhythm when he was posting. “The results are in! The first place winner is, Sami and Ali!!!” Omg I won!!!!! Im freaking out!!!! I won I won!!! I was so excited!!! I got a blue ribbon and a certificate that said I was now a class A rider!!! This all turned out good!!! I was so happy!!
There is my story 
