Jess: * I enter into the ring on Brooklyn at a walk I sit up tall shoulders back hands forward and up off his neck but not too high though I squeeze him and he trots I post in the middle of the saddle keeping my strait posture I use my legs to steer I keep my heels down as far as they can go I check my diagonal as soon as we start trotting.... once we have trotted the whole way around I slow him back down to a walk then I reverse him then I squeeze him to a trot again he trots gracefully his ears pointed his head up (but not too high) once we have trotted around a second time I slow him to a walk and he walks out the gate nicely*

Katie: as I pass Jess, I give her thumbs up and enter on Pepsi at a working and collected walk, as Pepsi walks around beautifully, I make sure that my hands are low, shoulders back, heels lower than toes, head up, and my seat going with the motion of the walk, as we come to a bend of the arena, I squeeze gently with my heels and Pepsi responds by gliding into a trot, I check my diagonal as I post and make sure that as I am posting, I stay balanced and going with the flow, letting my hands follow Pepsi's mouth, keeping in touch with Pepsi through the bit:) after trotting around the whole arena, I slow Pepsi down to a walk and we do a small circle inwards and turn around, and after walking up to the first bend, I get Pepsi into a trot and instantly I know that we are on the correct diagonal and after trotting around the arena I slow back to a walk and Pepsi and I stop in front of the judge and bow, and leave the arena at a collected walk and then I sigh, glad that we had done great:)

Carmen: I get Blackberry out of her stall and lead her to a pair of cross-ties. I begin to vigorously curry and brush her shiny coat from yesterday night's bath. I pick out her hooves and carefully apply hoof polish. I select my show pad an lift it on to Blackberry's back. I raise my shined brown saddle over her and attach a clean girth, loosely. I put a neat bridle on Blackberry's head and give her a quick pep-talk and I lead her down the aisle to the arena.
"I know we haven't worked together a whole lot, yet, and that you're new at riding, but you've been through this before. It's only flatwork, so let's go out and have a good day." As we reach the arena, I pat her neck and put my helmet on. I pull on my gloves and straighten my show jacket. I mount and when we are called, I squeeze lightly and we enter the ring.

SHOWING BEGINS HERE:

I enter at a walk and shove my heels down and direct my eyes forward. I relax and inhale and exhale deeply once. Blackberry snorts and tosses her head. We walk around a corner and I hear the signal to trot. I tighten my reins slightly and squeeze my heels into Berry's sides. I give a subtle kiss with my lips and at the quiet noise, she transitions into a slow trot. I sit for beat and look at Blackberry's shoulder. I rise on the correct diagonal and sit on the next beat. I continue a steady post with my heels down and eyes up. Blackberry tries to cut the next corner, but with a slight squeeze of the right rein and press of my left heel, she doesn't cut the corner and continues on a steady trot and I keep up a strong post. On the cue to walk, I stop posting and pull a little reins. Almost instantly, Berry stops completely and with a small squeeze she walks slowly. I walk with a good position for a few strides, until given the command to reverse. Trying to make the smallest cues possible, I squeeze softly with my left heel and put slight pressure on the right rein. I lean away from the rail and Berry turn easily. Berry quickens her walk when she hears the announcer say 'rising trot' and with a light squeeze she glides into a smooth trot. I start to post and switch my diagonal quickly. We complete the lap neatly and rounding the corner, Berry throws her head down once, to which I tighten the reins, and she doesn't act up again. I slow her to a walk a few steps before exiting the ring. I immediately pat her on the neck and loosen my reins. "Good job girl! You seemed like a pro, and maybe I can tart your jumping training soon." I dismount and loosen her girth while the other competitors compete. We eagerly wait for the results. :)
