I have two different people that I could get lessons from, but they cost about the same. One is about 40$ for 1 hour, the other is 35$ for half an hour. (I believe.)

HorseForever, ask your parents if they can see if the trainers would give you an evaluation lesson. This would be to see how you and the trainer get along and if you could learna nd enjoy learning from them. My trainer offered to give me one free lesson to see what I knew and if her and I would get along. jjpals earlier commented on Horseforever's letter about her horse pereferences, jjpals said "you can't jump with a western saddle, and anytime I hear (or read) some one say that I think of my sister's saying, "or else you'll get another bellybutton." jjpals is right about lessons and management. Lessons on handling them is very important getting one on one experience in handling is great , but do not undermind books for they can save you many problems and help you in many situations, if you read through and memorize them! If you can not afford lessons then get as much info on horses as you can. Watch training videos on Youtube of people who have a reputable name, like CLinton Anderson , Stacy Westfall, ect. FInd out horsey people in your area and if they're willing to help you out, btu first find out how much they know before asking for help from them in certain areas with horses, and make sure your parents approve of their horse techniques and overall character. Even if the person is not experienced with horses (As in a person who hasn't been with horses very long.) can still loan you info like videos and tack in a jiffy when your's is broken . But still use your books and such as guidelines to what or who you should borrow and listen to .

I totally agree, GS, and I have read horse books practically my whole life. I know a lot about horses, but really getting to know a horse comes from experience. I know the two people that give horse lessons, and one of them doesn't like me. The other is kind of expensive. I could get involved with 4-H, because I know there's one in my area that does Horse and Rider. But they have a rather extensive waiting list. My question is: do I pay lots a money for lessons, wait forever to get into 4-H, or just go out an buy a horse?

Pay for lessons.

pay for lessons:)
or if 4-H won't work you could try: United State Pony Club, they teach you about how to care for your own or a borrowed horse, and also how to ride them too:)
so that way you can learn about taking care of and owning a horse and also how to ride it:)
I am not in Pony Club but my Best friend Annie is:)

The problem is I don't think there is any USPC's in my area. But I would love to take lessons.
