horse!

We might sell Coba...his trainer says his training can take up to 18 months, it will kill me to see him in my backyard only to have to wait forever. His trainer says I can sell him for up to 7,500. I can then get 2 older more experienced horses. What would you guys do?

well, I would sell him if you can not start riding him in several months, and then buy one mare to get started with and yeah! that's what I would do:)

Do whatever you think is best. But make sure he goes to a good home, if you decide to sell him. And in my opinion, geldings are easier to handle because they don't go through heat every year, and they don't get as attached to other horses. In my experience, at least.

Just make sure they don't get too attached, Amelia. That's happened to Macola and the mare. He would bolt away when I tried to lunge him, wouldn't go to the far side of the pasture with me leading or riding him and sometimes he shouldered to go farther than 50 feet from the barn because the mare was tied up there. The mare wouldn't walk more than 10 feet away from him, if she did she would rear and back up over and over again, and one time she tried to rear and my friend accidentally pulled the opposite way, the mare spooked at a rabbit underneath her, twisted and side jumped, and brother her cinch while my friend fell in bull nettle. Just make sure that the mare gets out often, away from her pasture mate(s). Mares get attached very easily, at least in my experience, but you can have her attach to you instead of the other horse and you should be just fine. :)
