Midnight
By Abigail_Nightrock

As midnight approaches, the horses in the paddock are sleeping,
Wolves are weeping,
And everyone sleeps;
A deer somewhere leaps.

The Dream
Written by Abigail_Nightrock

[Rocky] One day, as I was in my paddock, the girl, Crystal came to me. She slipped my halter and lead rope onto me and led me to the stables. She put me in cross-ties and groomed me; then, she put a wierd thing on my back. I spooked and she said, "Calm down Rocky, it's only a saddle blanket." I calmed, and she put something called a saddle on my back. "It's ok bud" she said, stroking me. She put a bridle on me, and I was used to that. I was taken off of the cross ties and taken to a round-pen. I snorted when she mounted me, she coaxed me forward, and I walked; she kicked lightly and I didn't know what she wanted me to do and I felt scared so I broke into a gallop and started bucking. She fell off and got back up onto me. "Easy boy, easy" She said, letting me stand there. She coaxed me to walk again, then she kicked lightly again but she said, "Forward" this time. I broke into a trot, then a canter. And I knew, I was living the dream.

Summers End
By: Abigail_Nightrock

As I prick my ears west,
my rider zips up her vest;
she mounts me and asks me to walk,
next to us her friend talk, about summers end.

I Love Horses
By: Abigail_Nightrock

They are wild and free,
Some are nice and tame,
They'll never be the same,
There's talented racers,
Don't you just love them?
If you do, you're like me,
As happy and horse-crazy as can be.

Life Is Good, Horses Make It Better
By: horsecrazygirl69

The morning sun shone brightly through Alexis Montgomery's bay window. Yawning, the 15 year old girl sat up in "bed" (the large, comfy bay window seat in her glamorous room) but quickly flopped back down, realizing it was Saturday.
"I'm so glad it's finally the weekend" Alexis mumbled to herself. She turned to the side so that she was facing away from the sun and towards the door to her bedroom. Closing her eyes, she started drifting off into a peaceful slumber once again. That is, until her younger brother, Matthew, at the age of 6, came bursting into the tired teen's room exclaiming
"Wake up, wake up, Alexis! Do you know what day it is today?!"
Alexis grumbled in annoyance
"Is it the day where you finally leave me alone?" she covered her eyes with her pillow and continued
"And I've told you before, stop calling me by my full name. Call me Alex."
Instead of leaving, Matt only widened his smile and laughed.
"No, silly! It's Saturday!" he started running around the room and leaping, falling into fits of giggles. He ran up to Alex, pulled the pillow away from her face and tossed it onto the ground.
"Get up, get up! Come play with me!"
Instead of getting up, Alex grabbed the pillow off the ground and gently hit Matt with it.
"Go. Away." she frowned.
"I'm telling mom you're being mean!" Matt's smile turned upside-down, and faster then you can say goodbye, he was out the door, leaving the swinging wooden barrier wide open. Sighing, Alex used all her strength to lug herself out of bed and onto the soft carpeted floor. She swiftly made up her bed so it was nice and tidy, then redid her hair into a messy bun atop her head. After using the bathroom, she exited her room and made her way through the hallway and down the stairs into the kitchen of the Montgomery's massive home.
"Morning, mom." Alex greeted. "Morning, dad."
Her parents said good morning to her in return, then resumed their morning routine.
"French toast and scrambled eggs are in the kitchen." Mrs. Montgomery added as she exited the kitchen and moved on to the living room to watch TV.
"Thanks" Alex smiled and made her way over to the delicious breakfast. She put cheese and ketchup on her eggs then grabbed a fork and sat down at the breakfast table with Matt, who was messily enjoying his morning meal.
"Mom said we're going to the horse barn later to look at all the pretty ponies!" the 6 year old said with his mouth stuffed.
"Okay, first of all, please chew and swallow before speaking." Alex said in disgust. "Second, I am NOT going to no stinkin' horse barn. Those things are smelly, disgusting beasts who sleep in their own waste. I know I'm a tomboy but that's just going too far. Plus, I would not like to die today, thank you very much." Alex had no idea that her mind would soon be changed.

---------3 hours later---------
"Come on, Alexis, it's time to leave!" Mr. Montgomery called his daughter who was getting ready in her room upstairs.
"I'm coming, I'm coming." Alex trudged down the stairs, jumping the last step. She was dressed in her favorite Nirvana shirt, light gray ripped skinny jeans, black combat boots, a black Batman snapback turned so the bill was facing backwards and her long, dark brown, wavy hair tied back into a low ponytail. The Montgomerys piled into their shiny black Mustang GT and drove off, away from their large home and down their curving driveway.
A few minutes later, they arrived at Meadowcreak Farm, a small local barn about 10 minutes away from the Montgomery household. Matt was the first one to get out of the car, Alex being the last.
"It actually doesn't smell as bad as I thought it would" was the teen's first comment. Nobody else said a word as they walked up the gravel path to the barn. Acres of green pastures surrounded three sides of the building with a couple arenas in the midst of it. Horses of all kinds of shapes, colors and sizes grazed and played amongst cross country obstacles. Alex took in her surroundings before they entered the barn. A slim woman with long, golden blonde hair pulled into a low ponytail and riding apparel greeted them.
"Hi there! You must be-"
"The Montgomerys" Mrs. Montgomery finished her sentence with a smile and shook the lady's hand kindly.
"I'm Annamarie Coffin, but please, call me Annie" The tall lady smiled at the newcomers.
"I understand you are looking to take lessons here."
Mr. and Mrs. Montgomery nodded.
"Alrighty then, we'll start off by getting to know one of our lesson horses, Sugar. Follow me." Annie led the way over to what she called a cross-tie area where a small, adorable white pony was tied up. Alex smiled at this sight.
"Maybe horses aren't so bad after all" she thought to herself.
After learning how to groom, tack up and mount Sugar, Alex and Matt took turns riding the pony around a round pin on a lunge line. They only walked but Miss Annie said that if they do this a couple more times then they'll be able to pick up the pace a tad bit. When their lesson was over and Sugar was all put up and taken care of, the Montgomerys headed back towards their car.
"Can we come again?" Alex asked.
"Of course, dear!" Mrs. Montgomery smiled at her first child's sudden interest in horses.
Alex grinned and hopped into the car. She thought to herself
"You know, life is good, but horses make it better."

Title: Friends
Author: Rabbit08 (me!)

I woke up. Darkness is the first thing I remember. But then, I saw white. Light. Coming towards me. A Moonwolf. A Shadowhorse's natural enemy. I could not run. I could not hide. I was frozen. The Moonwolf sniffed me, then turned away. Then I remember sadness. Until Scandal.
--Seven Years Later--
Scandal was a Moonwolf, and I was a Shadowhorse. Surprising, I know. But I can't remember how we became friends. Scandal assures me that he was trying to eat me and I battled him. He shows me a scar he says that came from our battle, but I know that he got that while running on ice.
He slid into a snow bank that concealed a sharp branch. The scar is barely there now.
I know he's lying, but it still feels good that I have a friend by my side.
"Hey, Levi, look over there! A Darkbeast!"
"Darkbeast!" I say. Darkbeasts are frightening for me, as I come from the dark. I have converted to light, but I still fear that I might turn over to dark. I told Scandal that if that happened, he would have to imprison me. A strong prison, as I am VERY strong.
"Come on, Levi! Get the Darkbeast with me!"
"Okay! But make sure that I get to be the leader!"
We don't HURT the Darkbeast. Not at all. We cannot hurt another living creature, unless it attacks us. Darkbeasts SOUND bad, but they are usually shy.
"And we're OFF!" Scandal shouts.
"We're off!" I agree.
We chase the Darkbeast until we can run no more. Suddenly, a roar greets our ears. I turn, scared, ready for anything that comes our way. But all is see is an...
"AVALANCHE!" Scandal turns. He sees me. He turns around.
"Go, Levi. I won't make it. The Darkbeast was a child. Its mother crippled me. Go. Save yourself."
"No!" I cry. "I won't leave you!"
"Go, Levi. Please. You must."
"Scandal!" I cry. I race toward him. I pick him up with my teeth. He has been knocked unconscious by a stray rock. I fling him onto my back. I run away from the avalanche until I reach a safe rock.
Those are rocks that sort of hang over and are sturdy enough to protect people from avalanches.
I put Scandal under the rock gently. I dive under the rock just in time. The avalanche is going with tremendous speed.
Scandal wakes up to the sound of roaring.
He says, "Am I in the Great Lands?"
"No, Scandal. You're here. With me. Alive."
"Levi?" he murmurs.
"Yes, Scandal. I'm here. I'm always here."
--7 months later--
Scandal is tired. So am I.
We're tired of chasing and battling darkness. I mean, where is OUR retirement! But NOOOO, we have to keep battling dark. Can't we just be light but not battle? Oh, Scandal is waking from his nap.
"Hey, Lev?"
Scandal calls me "Lev" a lot. It's short for Levi.
"Yeah, Scandal?"
"I've been thinking a lot about how you said about retiring, and you're right. I'm pretty tired, and so are you."
"Oh, Scand. You love your job. And you would do this for me?"
"'Course, Lev. We're friends. What are friends for?"
"Oh, Scandal. We're BEST friends. I love that. I am glad that I know you."
Scandal is a good friend to me. But there is something, one big thing, that I haven't told him. I am turning more and more dark. I try to stop it. But I can't. I decide to 'fess up.
"Hey, Scand? There is something I haven't told you.'
"What is it, Levi?"
"I uh, I am going sort of, well, dark."
"Oh, Levi. I knew. Ever since I met you, I knew."
"What? What did you know?"
"That you were dark. I knew that from the beginning. Do you know why you can't remember why we met?"
"Yes! You said I hit my head on a rock."
"Wrong. I made sure you forgot. We did battle. You were out for three months. But I nursed you back to health."
"You did WHAT?" I scream.
"I defeated you in battle. But you put up a fight! The reason I always keep my stomach hidden from you is because I still have the star-shaped scar that you gave me while kicking."
"Oh, Scandal. How could you? Keep such a secret from me?"
"Levi, the reason I never told you is because I thought you would hate me. I didn't want you to hate me. I wanted you as a friend."
"Oh." I say. No wonder. "I understand. Am I a danger to you, Scandal?"
"Absolutely not! When I met you, I knew that you were dark. But I also knew that you would become good someday. Us Moonwolves are seers. It's sort of a thing."
"Scandal, I am so sorry. I had no idea. Can you always read my thoughts or do you have to try to read my thoughts?"
"I have to try. I don't, though. I trust you."
"Oh, Scandal. You are such a good friend."
"Yeah, thanks Levi."
I turn to ask him a question, but he is fast asleep. I think, "It sure must be nice to live in light. Instead of living in fear of the darkness."
