Run
By Liv

Freedom.
That is what you seek.
As you gallop across the pastures,
And soar over fences.

Run my friend.
For the world is dark place,
An unforgiving plain,
A gutless storm.

Run my friend.
From the cull and destruction.
In their eyes, you are an animal,
In mine, you are a warrior.

Run my friend.
From the imminent downfall.
The walls are crashing down,
Don't get trapped in the rubble.

Run my friend.
From the people who never loved you,
From the restraint,
From the ignorance.

Run my friend,
Into the arms of your family,
Run to where you came from,
To those who love you.
Run my friend,
To me.

Cold Day
By Diamondice

You and me.
That's how this story begins.
Us together,
Horse and soldier on No-Mans land,
Mourning for the departed.
Our passion will light up the dark days,
And flicker during the good.

You and me.
That's how this story unfolds.
Warriors in the cavalry of angels.
Defenders of those in need.
We need not light nor comfort,
Our bond will carry us through.

You and me.
Thats how this story goes.
Writers of the future and past.
Artists of power and flight.
Your hooves don't need the ground to run,
They only need your fire.

You and me,
That's hows this story ends.
As we wane and our minds lose touch,
of the mental anchor stopping us from drifting away.
Our bravery may have carried us this far,
But it will not carry us further,
As we join those lying on No-Mans land,
On this cold and lifeless day.

~~~Ebony Dream ~~~
Maddie yawned as she stretched in her bed. It was 5:30 in the morning, according to the clock. 5:30! Her eyes widened, as it dawned on her that she was supposed to eat, get ready, take care of Buddy, saddle him, and go meet her friends in exactly an hour! She scrambled to the kitchen, grabbed a piece of bread and the jar of jam, poured a glass of milk, and popped the bread in the toaster. She gobbled it up, ran to her room, quickly put on jeans and a T-shirt, and on second thought, pulled on a sweatshirt as she went out the door. “Hey, Buddy!” she sang as she opened the stall door of Ebony Dream, Buddy, for short. He was a tall, black Welsh pony and Thoroughbred cross with a white star. She ran to the feed room, grabbed a feed bin, filled it with feed, and put it in his stall. after he was done, Maddie fetched his halter and lead from the hook on his stall, passing the many ribbons lining it. She slipped the halter over his head and clipped the lead rope onto it. She then led him to the cross ties, picking up the currycomb that had fallen out of the bin. She clipped the crossties onto his halter. She currycombed him, body brushed him, and picked his hooves out, finding a good-sized stone lodged in the frog. “Hopefully you aren’t lame today. That would be a HUGE problem.” Maddie thought of the upcoming event, feeling butterflies in her stomach. No matter how many shows she went to, no matter how many ribbons won, she still felt nervous going to them. After she got the last bit of dirt out of his hooves, she ran to the tack room and got the black English saddle, white pad, girth, and bell boots out of the trunk. She saddled him up and led him to the mounting block. She put her left foot in the stirrup and swung her right leg over, adjusted the stirrups, and set off to the meadow. When she got there, her friends were waiting for her. “What took you so long?” Emma asked. Emma was a tall, fair – haired girl. She was riding a bay Welsh pony mare named Brook Song. Brook, for short. “We thought you had forgotten!” Chelsie laughed. Chelsie wasn’t on her pony. Her pony was lame, and Chelsie had to leave him home. Her pony, Copper, was a chestnut Connemara pony that always seemed to be getting into trouble. Maddie Laughed. “Sorry I was late, my alarm clock is broken, I think. I REALLY need to get a new one!” “You ready for the show?” Emma asked. “Kind of. I’m a little bit nervous, though” Maddie answered. “You’re so lucky! YOUR pony isn’t lame right before a show.” Chelsie grumbled. “I should have known that something would happen. Something always does!” Emma put her arm around Chelsie. “Don’t be so glum! There’s another show in a month.” “True….” Chelsie thought. Suddenly, her eyes grew big. “You guys need to go! The show starts in less than two hours, and you guys haven’t even started braiding!”
Maddie patted Buddy’s neck from his back. It was very hot out in the Midsummer sun, and her riding attire wasn’t helping much. She was wearing a stiff white shirt, tan breeches, a heavy, black, coat, black gloves, and a black helmet. She hadn’t been in a show since the accident. She was at a show the year before, and they were approaching the final jump, a bush jump. The wind picked up, and a plastic bag brushed across the ring, right into Buddy’s path. He spooked, throwing Maddie, causing her to break her arm. She jolted back to reality as she heard the announcer’s voice boom over the loudspeaker. “Can number 143 come into the ring?” #143 was Emma. Maddie, #156, was right after her. Buddy bobbed his head, and Maddie saw the braid at the base of then neck almost come undone. hurriedly, she tucked it underneath the saddle pad. A few minutes later she heard: “Can number 156 come into the ring?” The loudspeaker crackled with static. Swallowing her nervousness, she entered the ring. None of the others had gotten away with a perfect round, so she had to be PERFECT. As she nudged Buddy into a canter, she felt a little bit better. She soared over the first jump, an easy Crossrail. The next jump was the same. And the two after. She turned her gaze to the next few jumps. A line of Oxers. Easy enough, but only enough room between them for one or two strides. She cantered the line perfectly, and turned to the last jump – This one made her nervous. it was a big brick wall. She turned Buddy’s head toward the wall, holding her breath. They had not done this wall in a very long time. Her riding coach hadn’t bothered to put it in the ring. But Buddy remembered jumping it, he remembered the joy that he had felt as he and Maddie had soared through the air. They approached the jump. Closer. Closer. Now taking off! She released her breath as they soared through the air with feet to spare. It was a perfect round! “I am glad to announce that the winner is number 156, Madeline Johns, with Ebony Dream,” the judge said through the loudspeaker. Emma and Chelsie cheered as the judge handed her the silver plate and the blue ribbon, and Maddie hugged Ebony Dream. “I will never trade him for anything.” she thought.
With All My Love {fiction}
By DreamerGirl
I can't believe it. It's been exactly a year since my beloved Whisper, my red roan Quarter horse, has left me. For good. Forever. And, to show my love for her this Valentine's season, I'll be writing to her. My beautiful Whisper. With all my love I write this, with all my love I say this. With all my tears I
To my beloved Whisper,
You were as strong as the wind, though so quiet as a whisper. So gentle as a breeze, yet so stubborn. So willing and kind. Sassy and pretty- I can't forget that unique personality of yours. You're coat the color of a rose. Or you may say a strawberry, but I like them both. You can't even express the feeling I had when you left. You left me, but not forever. Only for a while. With all my love I say this. With all my tears I write this. And though you won't read this, I feel you know I love you. I feel you know how dear you were to me. I will always remember you, my Whisper. See you soon.
You're faithful friend,
With all my love,
Aria
Every year I intend to write a love letter like this to my horse. She meant - and means - so much to me. This is how I cope and live without her.
With all my love forever.
~THE END~
i can call you my friend,
i can call you my horse,
a true friend would lend,
if i ever lost my halter, of course
a true horse would stay,
if you would ask him to,
a true horse is loyal, it would lay,
if you loved him
