All right, here you go. This only happened because I was reading Edgar Allan Poe's "The Raven" and I had that annoying meter and rhythm in my head so bad I was beginning to think to it. . .
DANCE
Round and round the partners wheel
Circling; flying; spinning.
The dance is something each can feel
From the very first beginning.
Their feet tap out a rhythm beat
Their hearts match stride for stride—
In soaring movements they complete
Each motion; saunter; ride.
Like castanets, the horse’s hooves
Drum out a thrumming theme;
In subtle sways the rider moves—
This one united team.
Where one begins, the other ends,
One finishes, one’s starting;
Their energy and action blends
And leaves no room for parting.
With confidence and well-earned pride
The horse and rider prance;
Will your heart too yearn yet to try
And learn this ageless dance?

| Thanks, y'all! The basic idea started out as a WW2-based poem, where I was trying to describe a dogfight between two planes as a "dance" of sorts. Well, that crashed and burned (pardon the poor pun--and the consequential alliteration), but I kept the idea of referring to something as "dancing" that normally wouldn't be thought of as such. All it took was a little Edgar Allan to get me going, I suppose. |
