Ocea and pickle

One day a young girl named Ocea moved to a new house. It had a barn, pasture, round pen, and even a pool
Even though they had all this space, they only had one horse, and her name was Pickle, she was really sweet. Ocea and Pickles like to barrel race. Pickles is a very fast quarterhorse, she almost always gets third place.
Even though Ocea barrel races she also has other hobbies like playing soccer, she also plays tag with pickles. On a barrel racing tournament, she grooms pickles until she shines like a diamond.
Ocea’s mom and dad didn’t want Pickles to be lonely so when Ocea’s birthday came they got her another horse and her name was Swirl. Swirl was also a quarter horse, and she did pole bending. Pickles was faster, but Ocea loved them both the same.
The end.

Merveille audacieuse
Bip! Bip! Bip! Ugh, pensa Harper.

Can you resend this in English?

Nearly 300 years ago, the Thoroughbred was developed in England. Three foundation sires ~ the Byerley Turk, the Goldolphin Arabian, and the Darley Arabian ~ were bred with English mares to produce this breed.

The Byerley Turk was a seal bay colt born in 1684, who was taken from the Turkish Army at Buda in 1687, where he was obtained by Captain Robert Byerley of county Durham; Captain Robert Byerley rode him in the battle of the Boyne in 1690.

The Godolphin Arabian was a bay with a white patch on his back heel. He was foaled in 1724. He had a very high crest. He stood at 15 hands at the withers. Most of his immediate offspring were bay. He was buried at Wandlebury stables at the age of 29 in the year of 1753.

The Darley Arabian was foaled in 1700. He was a dark bay with 3 white socks and a large blaze. He stood at about 15 hands tall. He lived until about 30 then passed away in the year of 1730.

In 1775, when Americans found that in a one mile race Thoroughbreds could run twice as fast as most other horses, they imported stock from England and bred their own racing champions.

Thoroughbreds are larger and taller than Arabians and have straight, rather than dished, profiles. The average thoroughbred is over 16 HH high. People say that this breed gets its speed and stamina from the Arabian ancestors. It takes a well trained jockey to handle a nervous thoroughbred.

Thoroughbreds that aren’t fast enough to race are often re-trained as show jumpers dressage horses, steeplechase horses, or three day event horses. Some are even used as polo horses.

Like the Arabian, the thoroughbred has been used all over the world to improve horse breeds. Secretariat is an example of a famous racing thoroughbred. He is a Triple Crown winner. That is what a horse is called when it wins the Kentucky derby, the Preakness, and the Belmont stakes ~ three important races ~ in one year. No horse could match secretariats speed on the race track. Although his racing days are over the stallion lives in Kentucky and is used for breeding. Because racing is a popular sport in America, many owners hope to breed a colt with the grace, speed, and spirit of secretariat.

Racing thoroughbreds are started in training when they are about one year old. All thoroughbreds registered date of birth is January 1st, which can be unfair to some horses depending on what time of year they were born. The most common races in America are for 2 and 3 year olds.

Thoroughbreds are not only used for racing they are commonly seen in show jumping, dressage, and lots of speed events. Some western riders breed thoroughbreds into their horses to give them speed. Thoroughbreds are very sensitive, so it can be tricky to ride them. Overall, this horse is a great asset to the equestrian world, and I think that with a couple more years of cross breeding, this horse could be part of the next best breed of horse.

Oooooh my goodness, it has been far too long since I updated this. I lost all my notes, then the story itself, and only recently found them again. Words cannot adequately express my embarrassment.
Anyway, this is all to say that if I need to resend Parts 1 or 2, please let me know.

Hired Help, Part 3
Nat2

It didn’t take much talent to make grilled cheese sandwiches, and Dolf had informed Trudy of this on multiple occasions when the two of them ended up eating such for breakfast, lunch and dinner whenever they were alone and Harriet-less. She had challenged him, therefore, to make a few of his own, and after the charred wreckage had ended up in the trashcan, he had stepped back to let her cook and contented himself with criticizing from afar. He was harmless, though, and she liked hearing what kinds of new and intricate comments he could think up about her cooking if he set his mind to it.
But now, with ELO spinning in the CD player and the window open to let in a breeze—just in case things got out of hand and started smoking on the stove—Trudy was about as much in her element as she ever got in the kitchen. She was doing pretty well for herself, she liked to think, as she dug sliced cheese out of the fridge and fetched a loaf of bread from the top of the fridge. As quaint as Harriet might think it was to bake the stuff herself and saw through it with one of those massive serrated knives of hers, Trudy’s heart lay with the ease of precut bargain basement white bread. What was good enough for Walmart was good enough for her.
She’d melted the butter in the pan and was putting slices of cheddar and Swiss on the laid-out pieces of bread when there was a knock on the frame of the screen door. She almost didn’t hear it over the dying strains of “Calling America”.
“Jack!” she greeted him. “You’re six minutes early.”
“Good band choice,” he commented. “Can I come in?”
“Sure. Take your shoes off, though,” she instructed, turning back to the stove to plop in an assembled sandwich. “I just mopped in here a week ago.”
He whistled, one hand on the frame for balance as he shucked off his boots. “Must be pristine, then.” He pushed the screen door open and it squeaked shut behind him. For a minute he just stood there in her kitchen, spattered in dust and straw and sweat. Perspiration had turned the dirt stuck to his bare arms into mud. His blue-green eyes took in the dubious scene before him of Trudy poking suspiciously at the cooking sandwich. “Anything I can help with?” he asked.
She eyed him up and down. "Not looking like that, you can’t, dripping half the barn all over the place. Besides,” she carried on as he only grinned, “I need every opportunity I can get to be domestic. Harriet usually does all this and as it is I can barely keep Dolf and myself alive when she’s out of town.”
“Fair enough. What do you want me to do, then?”
“Go wash up,” she told him. “You’re filthy. And hurry up about it,” she added, aiming her turner at him, “because by the time you scrape all that off lunch will be over.” Obediently he started toward the sink and she all but yelped, “Not *there!* You’ll get it all over the breakfast dishes!”
“Well, I didn’t see a shower stall in the corner,” he said reasonably. “This was the next best thing.”
“There’s a bathroom down the hall,” she replied, feeling a bit ridiculous that she had assumed he already knew his way around a house he’d never set foot in before and the rules of a place he’d never been. “Down past that silly cabinet with the mirror on it and turn right. Then it’s the first door on your left. Use the white bar soap, not the yellow one—unless you want to smell like Confederate jasmine and orange blossom honey. It’s my sister’s.”
“That wouldn’t be so terrible,” he admitted. “Down, right, left, white soap. Got it. Be back in a minute.”
He disappeared down the hall and Trudy went back to her cooking to find out she’d nearly burned her sandwich. Quickly she flipped it and set to making three more, one each for the menfolk and an extra in case she scorched any of them beyond recognition. She was making her way through them with reasonable success by the time Dolf appeared a few minutes later.
“About time you showed up,” she said. “Jack beat you here.”
“He didn’t have ten years’ worth of horse chow to throw around in the back of a truck,” Dolf returned, slipping off his boots and padding into the kitchen. By the looks of him he’d already washed at the pump outside and hung his hat up. “What’s for lunch?”
“Three guesses.”
“I ain’t that brave.” He went to the fridge to hunt down the jug of sweet tea. Watching him, bent over and up to his waist in Frigidaire, Trudy said pointedly,
“Jack offered to help me with lunch.”
“Okay.” He straightened up, jug in hand. His head was tipped at her quizzically. “What about it?”
“Jack is a gentleman. You never offer to help with lunch.”
“Gentleman Jack is new,” said Dolf, going for a glass. “And he doesn’t yet know that you should never volunteer to do things around here you aren't gettin' paid for. And I,” he announced, sitting down at the table with a sort of limp-limbed finality, “ain’t paid to help with lunch. Your sandwiches are burnin’.”
She left him to his tea and went to save her sandwich, which was in fact just fine. As per usual, though, he quickly became bored of being a callous observer and got up to track down potato chips and a jar of pickles, as he held with near-religious fanaticism the belief that a good grilled cheese sandwich could not be truly enjoyed without either of these articles.
Soon enough Jack emerged from the depths of the house, pulling his sleeves back down over damp wrists. “That soap isn’t so bad, Captain,” he commented, inspecting his fingers for any traces of dirt. “I kind of like smelling pretty.”
“Enjoy it while you can,” she told him. “It won’t last with the kind of things you’ll be doing in a day around here.”
He eyed her warily. “What kind of things, exactly?”
She waved her turner vaguely in the air. “Dolf can tell you. He’s done it all and more.”
But Dolf was busy eating pickles, and had no comments to make. Jack sat at the table across from him and Trudy put down the plate of sandwiches. They hadn’t turned out too badly, she liked to think. You could still tell what they were, anyway. She plopped into a chair, Dolf managed to stop terrorizing the pickles long enough to say grace, and they dug in.
“Say, Captain, this is pretty good,” Jack announced after a minute. “Do you have a recipe or do you just stick it in the pan and pray?”
Trudy cast Dolf a smug look and he ignored it, selecting a potato chip from his plate with surgical precision. “Pray,” she said. “It works for everything else.”
“Miracles do happen,” added Dolf, cutting her a lackadaisical look she knew all too well.
“It’ll be a miracle if you make it through today without getting fired,” she returned, gearing up for verbal battle. “You’re expendable now, Mr. Bates, remember? There’s a new hired hand in town.”
“Don’t let me interrupt your lover’s quarrel,” piped up the new hired hand, watching them with interest from behind his sandwich, “but there’s an enemy at the gates. Somebody just rode up.”
“Oh!” Trudy jumped up, wiping cheese grease on her jeans. “That’ll be Charlotte. I forgot she was coming over to help me groom the horses.” The screen door had decided to stick and she fussed with it for a minute before she got it open, just in time for Charlotte to sweep in. She was a newly minuted 18-year-old still running on leftover birthday energy from the week before, and that combined with her usual bubbly personality made her a force to be reckoned with.
“Hey, Tru,” she greeted, and then her big gray eyes took in the picturesque scene before her and the stranger at the table. “Oh, sorry. I didn’t know you had company.”
“That’s just Jack,” Trudy assured her, as the company’s mouth was currently full. “He’s our new hired hand.”
“Hello, Just Jack,” she chirped. He gave her a smile and kept chewing.
“He offered to help with lunch,” Dolf said around a bite of grilled cheese. “He really is the Perfect Man.”
Trudy was close enough to swat him on the arm, and did so for propriety’s sake. “He’s here because Dolf is getting elderly,” she explained to Charlotte. “We may have to put him down in a week or two.”
“Why are you wasting sandwiches on him, then?” Her friend looked at the group’s lunch with interest. “Speaking of, do you have any extra lying around I could borrow?”
“Not unless you get the Bullitt off your hands first,” said Trudy, and aimed her at the hallway. “Use the bathroom sink. I’m avoiding making the dirty dishes any dirtier so I don’t have a reason to wash them.”
She was already gone by the time Jack swallowed. “What’s Bullitt?” he asked curiously.
“Her horse,” said Dolf. Trudy closed the screen door and sat back down at the table.
“Her *Mustang,”* she elaborated.
Jack grinned. “I see what she did there. I don’t suppose he’s green.”
“Black, unfortunately. Gets hot in the summer, but at least the upholstery is leather.”
His eyebrows raised. “I don’t understand how you people afford to keep horses,” he commented. “You’ve got to feed them, keep them clothed, pay for their education. . .I’m going broke just thinking about it.”
“That’s our secret, Jack,” Trudy said. She leaned forward conspiratorially. “We’re constantly teetering on the edge of bankruptcy.”
He snorted out a laugh and took another bite of his sandwich.
Lunch went by quickly, and whatever remaining reservations Trudy had had about Jack melted away. He fit into their tight dynamic with ease, taking Dolf’s ribbing and firing back with his own, patiently answering all of Charlotte’s wide-eyed questions about The Big City, and telling Trudy that this was in fact the best grilled cheese sandwich he’d ever eaten. She especially liked that last part, even if all it did prove was that he was a good liar.
Once all was said and done, and Dolf offered to do the dishes–
“Oh, now you decide to be a hero?”
“Gentleman Jack needs competition.”
–Trudy and Charlotte put on their work boots and headed out to the barn. When the screen door had banged shut and the two girls were out of range of Jack, who’d stayed behind to scrape burnt cheese out of the cooling frying pan, Charlotte latched onto Trudy’s elbow with both hands.
“Okay, where’d you get him?” she demanded. “A Hallmark movie? He looks like the kind of humble country man that powerful women lawyers fall in love with.”
“You ought to be safe, then,” Trudy noted sardonically. “Besides, he’s from Seattle. That’s about as un-country as you can get.”
“Oh, who cares!” Charlotte loosed one hand to wave it dismissively in the air. “Did you get a good look at his eyes?”
“I noticed he had eyes, yes.”
“I can’t decide what color they are. I thought they were blue, but then they looked kind of green–”
Trudy sighed. Charlotte was going to be relentless for as long as it took to acknowledge Jack’s good looks. “They’re probably hazel,” she said reasonably. They were nice, she thought, but she’d never let Charlotte know it. She’d never live it down.
“And that hair! He looks like Sherlock.”
Trudy frowned. “Who?”
Charlotte gave her a withering look. “You really need a TV, Tru.”
“I thought they streamed that show.”
“A-*ha!* So you do watch it.”
“Just because I *know* about it–”
“There’s no shame in admitting you’ve got culture, Trudy,” Charlotte interrupted. She tossed the subject aside in favor of getting back to their earlier conversation. “Come on, isn’t there some resemblance? You’ve won the hired hand lottery.”
“Okay, fine. He’s cute, I guess.” Oh, how it stung to give her friend ammunition. “But he also doesn’t know the back end of a horse from the front, so we’ll have to see how it goes. Besides,” she added loyally, “Dolf’s been doing just fine by himself for years. It’s only the rat infestation giving him some trouble.”
“Fair point.” Charlotte drew back, conceding. “But if Jack *doesn’t* work out, send him over my way. I’m sure I can convince my parents we need some help around the place.”
“If you spend all your time daydreaming about boys, you definitely do.”
“Trudy!”
“Sorry,” she laughed, not sorry at all. Flipping her long black ponytail, Charlotte huffed in mock annoyance and broke into a lope.
“Come on,” she urged, tugging Trudy along by the wrist. “We don’t have all day. There are horses to groom.”
“What a novel idea. I should have thought of it.”
“That’s what you have me for.”
Rolling her eyes, Trudy let Charlotte drag her away.

Chapter one

“I can’t believe that Tiff is finally moving back!” exclaimed Brianna
“We should through her a welcome home party!” added Carmon
“We should totally do that! We could have a big trail ride with the whole barn, and go camping, and have snacks and a big fire and a whole big party!!!!!!” joined in Sunny
“Sounds like it could be fun.” Said the always calm Kelsey
The girls had just found out that there friend since they were 7 years old was moving back, and they were all clearly excited about it. There club had seemed a little bit lonely without tiffany around. They hadn’t seen her for 3 years! They used to hang out at the barn together nearly every day, but Tiffany’s family moved to NYC when she was ten.
“I’m going to call my mom and see if she can get some supplies for the party and drive the horses to pine ridge for us.” Said Sunny
“So… we are throwing a party?” asked Carmon
“Sunny is still breathing isn’t she!” joked Brianna
“I’m not that obsessed with parties! Am I?” asked Sunny
“Does it really matter; because I am starving!” Kelsey said closing the topic
As the girls ate their lunches, (PB&J’S) they sorted out the details for tiffany’s homecoming party. Most of Sunny’s suggestions included bright colors and glitter. They were all so busy talking and laughing that they didn’t notice the horse trailer that pulled in until Pablo (the barn dog) started barking.
“It’s a new person!!!!!” squealed Sunny
“Let’s go see exactly who it is.” Said Carmon with a hint of suspicion in her voice
The girls walked up to the trailer just in time to see a barn hand unload a gorgeous Quarter Horse Gelding. The girls just stood in awe and looked at the magnificent blue roan horse. But suddenly the spell was broken when the barn owner and Sunny’s parents walked up.
“What are you doing here?” sunny asked her parents
“We came to see you get your new horse!” her mother replied
“My new horse?” sunny said with excitement and confusion
“Since chance retired from showing and is a trail horse now we decided to get you a horse for showing!” said her mother excitedly
“I get to keep chance still right?” asked sunny with lots of alarm in her voice
“Of course you do!” her parents assured her
“Now that yall have cleared that up, I’m going to tell sunny and her friends all about their new horses.” Said the barn owner
“Our new horses!” said all of the girls at once
“Well… they are technically mine but your parents have agreed to lease them for the summer.” Answered Anna (the barn owner)
“Best day ever!” squealed sunny
“Sunny, your horses name is ‘champ of all arenas’. Brianna’s horses name is ‘chicken nugget’. Kelsey’s horses name is ‘like the wind’. And Carmon’s horses name is ‘noodle’.” Said Anna. Then she handed them all the registration and coggins papers.
“Let’s go riding!” exclaimed Brianna
“That sounds like a great idea!” responded Carmon
Before long all of the girls had unloaded their horses and tacked up. They all took turns at the mounting block and started their warm-up. Brianna and Kelsey rode English and sunny And Carmon were riding western. Kelsey decided to jump her horse over some cross rails and Brianna did a few dressage exercises. Carmon discovered that noodle was great at western pleasure and trail exercises and was super excited.
Sunny watched as all the other girls were riding their new horses as she continued to try to get Champ to stay on the rail away from the barrels. She didn’t know what his problem was. He had been started in a lot of disciplines like western pleasure, reining, cutting, barrel racing, and pole bending. Sunny tried him on the barrel pattern first and she nearly fell off when he rocketed towards the first barrel! She did manage to regain her composure and make a good turn around the first and immediately looked up at the second it was also flawless1 but when she looked up at the third, champ felt a little off. He turned really wide and was shaking his head and spooking. Miss Anna came out and tried to help her, but sunny could not make a good turn around the third barrel! What could have possibly happened to Champ that would make him so scared of that one barrel?

Stay tuned for chapter 2 were the girls go on a hunt for information about Champs past…

The Crystal Creek Club
