GHOST HORSE
by CASPIAN136

"Ali, we're here! Ali?" My mom exclaimed, unbuckling herself. She turned around in the drivers seat in our Toyota van, which was parked right in front of our new home. I grimaced, looking out the foggy window from the dew and fog we drove in early this morning. "So, what do you think?" she asked, grinning. "Mom, what is this place?" Mom frowned, getting out of the car. I got out too, but didn't really feel like it. Instead I felt like buckling in the car and driving all the way back to Colorado from dust bucket Mississippi. She rolled her brown eyes, slamming the car door shut. "Oh, come ON, Ali! You've GOT to love it here! This is your new home, remember?" While mom took her suitcase out of the trunk, I just stared in shock at this place I was now going to call, "My home". The house had three floors, I could tell because there were three windows going up, and three windows across. The house was a pale yellow, chipping paint every where. The roof was a hideous shade of brown, and the some tiles were missing. The front and back lawn was yellow and crunchy, rather than a perfect shade of green and as soft as silk. That's how my dad's house in Colorado is. I bit my lip, thinking of the divorce, when mom handed me my pink suitcase.I turned around. "Mom! How could we ever call this place home?" I asked. "It's falling to pieces!" Mom wrapped her arm around my shoulders. "Look, I know it's pretty bad, but Alli, you're going to LOVE it here! Now, don't worry about the chipping paint. I called Watson, you know, my friend from collage? He lives around here and owns a hardware company and said he'd be happy to paint the outside another shade. He said he'd also send someone out here to fix the roof." "Fine," I mumbled, "as long as he doesn't paint the house a shade of purple!" Mom laughed, and that made me giggle a bit, too. "Come on!" Mom called out. "Let's go inside." While mom fidgeted around in her purse, looking for the key to the house, I tied my long brown hair back into a ponytail with a purple scrunchy. When she found the key, I wasn't surprised to see that it was about three inches long and made of brass. It was kind of shaped like those old fashioned keys from the 14th century, or something. "This house was built in the 1800's so the house is pretty old," mom explained, unlocking the door. Ya' think? I thought, rolling my hazel eyes. The house was even more ugly on the inside than the outside. There was a winding staircase, the yellow paint was chipping on that, the floor boards moaned when the wind rattled them, and the light switch was pretty old fashioned, too. Instead of a switch, it was a cord. It was pretty dark, so I felt the need to turn the lights on. I pulled the cord, and, the lights worked pretty well. "I guess Watson fixed the lights, too," Mom said, walking into the kitchen. The lights in there worked, but I gasped. "Mom! That stove! It's it's-hideous!" Mom nodded, looking at the old gas stove. "It's probably been here for awhile." "Yeah, but how are we going to EAT we need to cook most of our food somewhere, and I don't see a microwave or a toaster in here." "Ali, calm DOWN. Thank goodness I ordered new kitchen supplies ahead of time." "Good," I said. After picking out our bedroom's, me and mom slept on the rental beds in the living room. It was only two in the morning, and mom said we needed to get some shut eye since Watson while be here around nine o'clock. He's going to find out how much paint he needs, I guess. Or maybe he's going to fix the roof. I hope he falls of. It was hard to sleep, on account of the creaky floorboards moaning, waking me up every five seconds. Then I heard a noise. It sounded like some kind of animal or something. I got out of bed and looked out the window which showed the front yard. I saw a white horse, as pale as the moon, trot down our street. The next morning I woke up to the smell of eggs and toast, which was really odd because the stove didn't work and we had no toaster. Mom was in the kitchen, talking on the phone, pushing the scrambled eggs around the plate while she talked. She was already dressed, so I assumed Watson was coming over soon. After I got dressed in a pair of jeans and a T-Shirt, I decided to eat my breakfast too. While I walked past mom to get my paper plate of the counter, I smelled her perfume. She never ever wore the perfume dad gave her, so I assumed she was trying to impress Watson. Turns out the eggs and toast were from one of our neighbors down the road. I found a note on one of the plastic food containers that contained bacon. I thought it was pretty nice of our neighbor. Whoever it was. While I ate, I picked up a couple of words from mom's phone call. "Yes, the paint is chipping, a really bad color actually. Yellow, I presume," she said. "Yes, and the tiles on the roof are falling off, and it's the most ugly shade of green you could ever imagine.Yes. No. What? The backyard?" Then it dawned on me that I haven't checked out the backyard yet. Mom gasped. "WATSON! Why didn't you tell us?! Okay, okay, I understand. Alright, bye."
Mom sounded pretty angry when she ended her conversation. "The nerve of that man-." I was very curious about what mom was so angry about. "What is it, mom?" I asked, munching on my toast. Mom sighed, shaking her head. "Oh, nothing. Me and Watson were just talking about the condition of this house- not really well at all." "Yeah, but what about the backyard?" I asked, wanting to hear more. "Well, he said that the last owner- well, he should have mentioned this before, but-."
Mom bit her lip. "Please, go on, mom!" I begged. "Okay, well Watson said that the last owner here- well- he-," "He what?! He what?!" I said. Mom looked at her plate. "He said the last owner here died." I gasped. "What? How come?!" Mom shook her head. "I know, I couldn't believe it either, but it's the truth." I was puzzled. "But what does that have to do with the backyard?" Mom pushed her glasses up her nose. "Well, it's complicated. I don't even know the answer myself. Watson said that it had something to do with the backyard..." I gasped. "That could be anything! Spiders, wolves, bears.." "Ali, I doubt there's any bears OR wolves here, but they have been common around the last owners time." "What?" "The last owner. The last owner lived here in 1856. He was a farmer. Wolves and bears could have been around, but they didn't come 'round that very often, so I doubt it was wolves." Mom placed her hands together. "But it could have been a murderer." I gulped, but mom continued. "Watson heard rumors that it had something to do with a horse." "That's crazy!" I said. "Why would a horse do anything like that?" Mom shook her head. "I don't know, dear." Then mom got silent. "There's something else I want you to know." she said, staring at her plate. I knew it was something bad. "What? What!" "Watson, he bought you a horse." My eyes bulged out of my head. "He WHAT?!" Mom nodded, getting up out of her chair, pacing the room. Mom did this whenever she was upset. "He shouldn't have done that!" I said. "I don't know anything about horses!" Mom stopped pacing the floor and looked up at me. "I know, Ali, he should have asked me- and you-first. But he went on right ahead and bought you one." "Why?" I asked, gritting my teeth. Mom shrugged. "I don't know why. He just did." "Well, aren't we going to do something about it?!" I asked, my voice raising higher. Mom gave me a cross look. "Allison Katelyn Quimby!" she said. "Don't you DARE raise your voice at me! I am your mother!" I stared at the floor. "I'm sorry." I whispered. Mom nodded, and continued pacing the white tiled floor. "Look, when Watson gets here I'm going to tell him that he shouldn't have-." Mom's sentence was drown in honks from a car out front. Mom glanced at the black and white clock hanging above her. "He's here." she calmly said. "Now, don't talk a word about this, understand?" I nodded. "Good." Then mom walked outside to greet Watson. I stared at the floor, cross. Why did Watson buy a horse for me? Why! I clenched my teeth shut, angry at Watson. I didn't even know a thing about horses. Outside I could see Watson's blue pick up truck and hitched to it was a pale white trailer. I could see mom angrily crossing her arms, her lip in a thin line. I could hear a horse cry out, and some banging and kicking noises from the trailer. "Poor thing!" I thought. Watson got out of the drivers seat and slammed the door shut. He hugged mom. "Jane! It's so good to see you!" he said, giving her a tight squeeze. If I were mom, I would've kicked him in the shin. Then Watson looked down at me, considering the fact he was so tall. "And this must be the famous Ali I've been hearing about!" he said, grinning under the brim of his sunhat. He opened his arms wide, crouching down a little bit. "Come and give me a hug, girlfriend!" Did he just say GIRLFRIEND?! I thought. Yeah, he did. And he wants to hug me, too. Gratifying1 I thought. Instead of hugging Watson, which I didn't feel like at ALL (maybe later, oldie) I cut to the chase. "What's in the trailer?" I asked, playing dumb. Mom must have caught me playing dumb with Watson, because she gave me a dirty look. "Oh, that-well-." Watson rubbed the back of his neck. He looked up at the sky, avoiding eye contact. The way his rectangular glasses reflected the sun made me sick. He was giving me a seizure. "Oh, come ON, Watson." Mom said, giving a half hearted smile. "Show us." I felt like laughing out loud. Mom was playing dumb with Watson, too. Watson grinned. He put his hands up in the air. "Okay, okay, you got me! Come on, I'll show you!" Mom winked at me while we walked to the back of the trailer. At the back of the trailer the neighing and grunting continued. Me and mom stepped back while Watson unlocked the trailer door. I was scared to death! What if the horse runs over us? I thought. But Watson didn't look scared at all. He unlatched the door and opened it. Then, the horse bolted out! I could see a whir of black and then it bolted past me, knocking me to the ground. "Ali!" Mom called out. She ran towards me, while Watson chased after the horse.
"Ali! Are you okay?" Mom exclaimed, pulling me up off the ground and checking me all over. I was panting, and my eyes were filled with dust. "Yeah, I'm okay," I said, blinking back tears.

Title: The Foal's Journey part 7
By: Horsesforever12

My hooves pounded the ground as the cool breeze of the night swept through my mane. Lady galloped beside me, and the both of us wondering what was happening. When i reached my herd, i saw the worst. the humans were back...and they were capturing my herd! I spotted my mother and saw the fear and terror in her eyes. I charged. I aimed straight for a tall human, almost engulfed in the midnight shadows. I reared in front of him, mad and trying to be brave. He saw me. his horse reared, upset at my actions. He swung a rope around his head and caught my neck. it tensed around me, and i neighed in anger. but another neigh got my attention. Lady had been captured...including Silver Tongue and a few others. luckily my mother was not one of them. Then they dragged us off...with some difficulty...for the longest time. the sun rose, just above the mountains in the eastern sky. though beautiful as it was, my mind was elsewhere. if i had been with my herd, this may had never happened. I looked back at Lady. she was walking slowly with her head to the ground. i decided that whatever they had in plan...i would fight until i died. with that, I put my head out, arched my neck, lifted my tail, and pranced along. "Look at that beauty!" one human said, but i ignored him. I WAS not a beauty, i was a stallion. and i would protect my herd at all costs, through death...if need be.

Back to Black: Part 4

I heard a rustle outside my tent's wall, I sat bolt up and noticed an empty sleeping bag next to me. Jason. I poked my head into the misty morning, and there he was, looking for food. I walked up behind him and grabbed a bag of beef jerkey. "Here."

"Thanks."

I ripped it open and we had breakfast. "We better get moving" I muttered, gritting my teeth against the cold.

"Good idea, the sooner we find Cupid, the sooner we can get back to heating." Laughed Jason.

We packed up and got the horses ready. Then we started on the long, winding trail that led farther away from town, and further into the forest. I pushed a large branch out of my path and it slipped from my hands and with a THWAK! it hit Jason in the face "Ow! Gosh! Couldn't you have held it?"

"Someone woke up on the wrong side of the tent."

"You know what, the tent was on a rock."

"Well you pitched it."

He snorted with laughter and we moved to a smooth canter. Soon, we reached a large run down barn heavy with the smell of manure. I dismounted and motioned for Jason to tie the horses to a tree, I snuck along the wall until I peeked inside. I shuddered with disgust.

I snuck along, dailing 911 and then I pitched my phone to Jason. He started talking on it and I snuck in. Sure enough, there was Cupid and several mares and beautiful foals in a small pen filled with horse manure, I grabbed some halters and led them out, I hid them in the woods with the others. I heard the sirens before I saw the blue and red pulsing lights. I smiled as the police arrived to arrest the brutes that did this.

________________

I couldn't bear it and I know you can't, so here is the Epilouge.
________________

I watched as the last horse was sold to a good home and then I turned. Sierra was hugging Jason, and he was hugging her back. Mental melting into the ground and bursting into flames. Why? I would never admit it, but I liked Jason. A lot. I walked to the horses and heaved myself into the saddle. Then I walked them to the trail. I heard running footsteps behind me and turned to see Jason. "Where are you going?" He asked.

"It's time I left."

"Well then." He grabbed Cupid and climbed up. "I'm coming too." He rode up next to me and leaned over. "Nervous yet?" The answer? Yes. Yes I was.

Title: Alex and Comet continued
By: Horsesforever12

Alex woke up to the sound of a rooster. "Imagine that," she said to herself, still not believing that she was away from the city and on a little farm...away from everything! Tall buildings, dozens of people...it was just so unfamiliar. Sure, she had visited her Aunt and Uncle's farm plenty of times...but LIVE? that was a whole different thing!
Alex walked downstairs for breakfast. Before she even reached the kitchen, she could smell eggs, bacon, and toast. She said good morning to her dad and aunt. "Where's Uncle Jim?" she asked. "He went out to feed the animals...and didn't our stablehand tell you he'd take you out to a horse auction...or some thin'?" asked Auntie Nana. "Yes ma'am, Ron said he'd take me to buy a new horse. He said it didn't need to be a work horse...do regular horses work too?" Alex questioned. She new quite a bit about horses, but not everything. "Well, sure. As long as there's a couple of em'. And they gotta be good ones, too! Hardy, strong...Alexandria, my dear, you'd better eat and talk at the same time because Ron has just come in from the barn!" Nana said, guestering toward the door were Ron had just came in. Alex ate up the rest of her breakfast and tied her brown hair in a ponytail. "Ready?" he asked her. "Almost," said Alex, as she noticed her sister coming down the stairs, dressed in shorts and a t-shirt. "Sis," Alex said to the teen, "why don't you come along? It would be fun!" Ari shook her head. "No, Alex, you go have your fun." Alex sighed. maybe getting Ari and Ron together would be harder than she thought. "Anyway, it's time to go get a horse," she thought.

Abby goes to Horse camp
1# in the series HCG club
by horsecrazygirl80

Chapter One
***************************
I galloped across the field. I was on a beautiful gray Arabian. It whinnied as we rushed by the trees. I smiled and urged the horse to go faster. The horse snorted and obeyed me. Then all the sudden; I saw my teacher standing in front of me. Then a awful bell began to ring. “Abby bells ringing...Abby....Abby!!” my teacher said.

I sat straight up, startled out of my daydream. Mrs. O'Brien was standing in front of my desk fuming. Oh great! I thought. “Abby the bell is ringing its time for you to go on the bus.” she said impatiently. I widened my eyes. The bus! I was going to miss the bus! I quickly swung my backpack ,which was covered in little horses, on my shoulder. I raced down the hallway, ran out the office door and jumped onto the bus.

I was not the first day I had nearly missed the bus because of daydreaming. This had been going on for a week! I went into my regular spot by my BFF Clair. “Late again Abby!?” she said. “sorry! I was daydreaming again.” I said.

“good grief! Abby you will be able to ride ALLLL you want at horse camp!” Clair exclaimed. Horse camp....the best place ever! I was going to go there will Clair next week!

Clair was horse crazy too, like me. We have been best friends since kindergarten now we are in 7th grade. We do not look alike. Clair is pretty with pale blond hair and blue eyes with light skin. She is into clothes and wearing the “right” stuff, which I do not mind because shes totally horse crazy! She normally has her hair in a side ponytail and golden dangling earrings and a jean skirt and a hot pink top with a jean short sleeved coat.

I am not that into fashion. I have brown, super curly, hair. I have brown eyes and dark skin. I am more not that into clothes. My hair is always in a homemade turquoise headband. I always have blue feather earrings which Clair thinks are “cheap”. I have a tight blue top with a cool horse on it. I wear my comfy shorts with tie dye too. I wear sandals. She wears heels. The only thing we had on that was alike was our friend ship necklaces we got at a special store. It was a dapple gray horse on a rainbow chain. On the horse mine said “my Bff is Clair” Clair's said her bff was Abby.

Despite our differences we are BFFs. We called ourselves the horse crazy girls (HCG) we are the only horse crazy kids at our school in Orlando, Florida. Everyone else loves Dolphins and clothes.

I live in a house by the ocean side of the town she lives right next door in a big beach house!

When we got off the bus we went to Clair's house which is what we normally do. Her house is a huge white beach house with palm trees and a small golf course for her Dad. We ran upstairs to her hot pink room. She has a white bed with hot pink bedspread and a hot pink lace canopy. She has lots of horse posters in her room. They are all mostly dapple grays or grays. “hey want too see the horse camp website” she says opening her pink laptop. “Sure” I say.
The website has lots of horse pictures on it and girls riding.

“The camp is at Cocoa beach.” Clair reads, “it has a large stable of jumping, dressage, and hack horses. Each girl is assigned to a horse and for the whole two months treats it like her own” “wow!”I exclaim. “I know! Just think of all the fun we could have!” Clair said excitedly.

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

I walked home to my house its not that big its brown with a large yard. I run inside. My mom is in her office. My Dad is cooking. “hey dad” I say as I grab a kiwi. “hey Abby.” he says not taking his eyes off the tacos. I run upstairs to my room. Its not hot pink like Clair's. My walls are turquoise with horse posters, mainly bays and paints which I love! I have a white loft bed with a desk at the bottom. My bed has a blue bedspread with white horses all over it. My desk has a laptop with a horse on it and lots of photographs. In a secret drawer I have my horse diary from my aunt in Georgia. I made a entry in my diary:

Dear Diary,
Next week we are going to horse camp! SQUEEEEE!!!!! I am so excited! It said on the website that each girl is assigned to her own horse and treats it like her own! It will be so cool!

Later,
ABBY

Chapter Two
********************

It was next week. The bus was coming to pick us up today! I got my blue horse duffel bag and put my riding clothes, horse pj's (me and Clair decided to wear the same pj's) other clothes, and my diary and I pad. I put my turquoise horse shirt, tie dye shorts, and turquoise headband and feather earrings and Bff necklace on.

I ran to meet Clair she was wearing the usual and she was carrying her hot pink backpack that said horses. We ran up to each other and jumped around squealing. We so excited! The bus was gray and cool looking. We walked in and it was packed. We finally found a seat in the back
by the bathroom. The seat extra large so it was comfy. “ I brought my I pad” said Clair. “me too!” I said. We both wanted to play on the game Club Pony Pals. We were friends on the game. We both had cabins. I had a black and white piebald named Sweetie. Clair had a gray named Beauty. It was cool but I imagined what it would be like if Cookie was real. It would be so cool! I turned off my I pad and got my diary out.

“I have a diary too.” said Clair. She showed my mine. Then we realized we had the same diary. We laughed. The diary had wild horses galloping on it and it had a lock. I quickly wrote a entry.

Dear Diary,
WE are on the bus to horse camp! I am absolutely excited! I just realized me and Clair have the same diary. Weird huh! Anyway I better go because we have our last stop then HORSE CAMP HERE WE COME!!!

Later
ABBY

I closed my diary. I sat back the last girl was coming. She walked to the back. She walked next to us. Then Clair did a strange thing. She scooted over and made room for the girl.

I thought that was odd. Me and Clair were supposed to sit together, we were best friends! I looked at the girl. She had jet black straight hair with bangs. Her eyes were almond shaped and she looked like she was Chinese. Her hair was in a red velvet headband. She wore a red sweater with a horse on it. She also wore a black jean skirt/shorts. Her shoes were red flats. She had red hoop earrings. She was also carrying a red duffel with a black horse on it. I knew one thing, this girl loved red.

“Hi” she said shyly, “my names Hazel.”

“I'm Clair” said Clair pointing to herself, “and this is Abby.”

“Hey” I said rudely. I knew I was being mean but I was a little grumpy. Clair looked at me in surprise.

“Where do you live?” asked Clair obviously trying to cover up for my rudeness.

“I live at house number 203 at Ocean Side street in Orlando.” I held my breath that was next to me. Meaning she was the new people who moved in last week. So I was between her and Clair. Nice! I thought moodily.

“You must be the new neighbors!” Clair said excitedly. “I live in house 205 the big house, Abby lives in 204 the one with the big yard.”

I took out my diary again while they talked.

Dear Diary,
Okay maybe this will not be the funnest trip after all. This girl just sat by us and it turns out she is neighbors with us. I hate to admit it but I'm jealous she is getting ALL of Clair's attention. I just hope we are all not in the same room.

Later,
ABBY

I closed my diary. “Hey! I have the same diary!” Hazel pointed out.

“you too!” Clair said pulling out her diary.

“That's so weird” said Hazel. I was even grumpier than before!

I was so excited as we put Molly on cross-ties. Of course, I needed to learn how to groom. The woman got a grooming kit and a girl was going to help me. first, we took out a curry comb. She showed me that you go around in circles on the horse's coat to get the dust and dirt loose. I went all over Molly's chestnut-bay coat until I was sure I had gotten all the dirt loose. Then we got a hard brush out. It's bristles were hard, and it swept all the dirt and sand off. I did long strokes until all the dirt was swept off. Then we got a soft brush, which was really actually soft. that was used mostly on the belly and a little on the face. I put a special mitten on that you use to brush the legs. We picked the hooves, which i eventually got the hang of, and then it was time to tack up! the woman had asked me when i had first got there, "Do you ride englsih or western?" I answered, "Neither, really. I have usually only rode bare-back!" so today, for like, the first time in my life, i was trying english tack. we went to fetch the saddle, saddle pad, and bridle. My heart was pounding! I was finally going to ride!

Title: The Foal's Journey part 8
By: Horsesforever12

It seemed like the hours dragged on forever until we came to a rather big place with miles and miles of fences locking up millions of horses, ponies, and cattle. The humans called it a "Ranch". We were each forced into a little corral. I galloped over to Lady. "Are you alright?" I neighed to her. She looked up at me with fear in her eyes. "Thunder...What's going to happen to us? I'm scared." I reared and answered her with a whinny. "We're going to get out of here," I told her. "But never let the humans ride on you." Just then, a rather large and bulky human came up to the corral and leaned against it, admiring us and talking to another human. I snorted madly at him. "Well, you know boss. Tough or not tough, we gotta brake their spirits to make em' good ranch horses," said the man. "Brake their spirits?" i said to myself. What a horrible thing to do to a horse wild at heart! It was unjust! I had to do something, and my hooves pounded the ground as I raced around the corral. "We'll brake that black one first..." the man said as he eyed Silver Tongue. "Then that white mare, and then that spirited one over there." I was mad about them talking about Lady, and then I was even madder when he talked about me! "NO WAY!" i snorted as I reared and clawed the air. then they barged into the fence and clipped a rope onto a halter that Silver Tongue had on his face. then they took him to another corral behind a building, so we could not see as we heard terrified neighs and then cheers of wicked men. Two days later, I almost fainted in shock as I saw a man riding atop a very sad looking Silver Tongue. "No...no," i thought.

Title: Cy (Part 1)
By: HorseyOllie

It was like an eternity that the stampeding deer were stampeding by. But they finally went off down the valley. Cy lay at the side of the valley. She really hadn't noticed the stampede. She had been stamped on by some fawns but nothing more. Cy wanted to wake up from her sleepiness but she couldn't. Every time she tried, her head hurt, and she gave in and closed her eyes. She was only a little foal. Eventually, she awoke. She nearly fainted as she saw a lovely looking mare with a grey coat, and blonde coloured mane and tail. She had rested her on the comfiest grass possible, and had put dock leaves all over me. Her rare, comforting yellow eyes were slightly distorted, one looking up and the other down. But Cy knew this lovely mare HAD seen her on the side of the valley, and wanted to take good care of her.
