A+ MATH, SCIENCE & COMPUTERS CLUB
Girls can be better if we help each other. Ask your math, science and computer questions here. Good answers will be rewarded with Wiggins bucks prizes.Hi
I did a little research
Fractional exponents are also called radicals
The exponent of a number says how many times to use the number in a multiplication.
For example, 8 squared could be called "8 to the second power", "8 to the power 2"
In that example the exponent was 2, but what if it were 1/2 ? How does that work?
The answer is that x to the 1/2 power is the square root of x.
It works kind of the same if you look at x to the 1/4 power, or it is the fourth root of x.
So, a fractional exponent like 1/n means to take the n-th root of the base number.
The rule is x 1/n = The n-th Root of x
If there is a complicated fraction, like x to the 3/2 power, that means do a cube (3) and then a square root in any order.
There is some more examples and a couple of neat charts at
