Marian: Apollo! You need to wear a helmet! Even if your horse is trustworthy, there's always a chance that it might stumble or something, so you MUST wear a helmet. It's dangerous no to. Think of it this way. You want to have a little discomfort while riding or do you want to take the chance of never being able to ride again.

That's what I mean. If you get badly hurt, or permanently disabled, you could never ride again. That would be awful!
