Rabbits & Guinea Pigs Interest Club

Hi! I am getting a rabbit soon! We already have two. I teach rabbit show jumping so I am looking for a rabbit that is good with show jumping. Anybody have any suggestions? I was thinking checkered giants but I am not sure. I want a large rabbit. At least 9 pounds.

Asheligh67. That is great that you are getting a rabbit! There are lots of types to get. I would suggest you keep it inside and everybody else I don't want to be pushy but I would like to tell you about indoor and outdoor rabbits.

You will miss a lot out when you get a rabbiy out side. Indoor rabbits are part of the family and are very interesting You have missed out a lot if you have not seen a rabbit run wild around your house doing binkys (jumps straight up in the air. Every rabbit has their own one) and bucking for joy. And if your rabbit gets sick you can notice it much quicker rather than you keep it outside and the next time you see it to give it it's food it is to late. Indoor rabbits live much happier lives in general and there life spans are doubled. We all want to give our rabbit long and happy lives. Out door rabbits are prone to diseases like Myxomaltosis a disease spread and by and mosquitos and maybe flys. That disease can be prevented by keeping your rabbit inside. indoor rabbits are part of the family and thus take part in lots of activitys. They can be litter box trained like a cat and live in the house. Our rabbit begs at the table and breakfast and we enjoy her company throughout the day. I don't want to bother anybody but I feel I should tell you all that your rabbit will be much happier inside. Asheigh I hope you have fun with your new rabbit and before you get it you will want to get a book about rabbit care and read it cover to cover. Unless you know a lot about rabbits already. By the way what color do you want?

I think a Rec rabbit is a good choice too. They have soft fur and are a nice size for a first time rabbit owner.

Hi. I am going to have a quiz I will send the person with the most correct answer 100 w-bucks worth of gifts. Thier choice of what they want. This is how it will work the person with the most answers wins. If two people answer the same amount of questions correctly I will give them 4 more questions to answer and so on. There will be a question like this.
1. how high can a rabbit jump?
a.18 inches
b.2 feet
c.10 inches

Then you will answer like this. 1.b 1 stands for which question you are answering and b is your answer. I am trieing to talk with JC about maybe having ribbon prizes or something like that. But for know I will just send you 100 dollars worth of gifts I will put up the quiz around next Friday or Saturday. And you will have all week until next Friday to answer the questions. I will announce the winner on or about The following Friday.

TRAINING TIP:

How to train your rabbit or guineapig to go through a tunnel.

First find a collapsible tunnel. A cat tunnel works well. Bring your rabbit or guineapig over with some tiny treats to the tunnel place him/her on one side. If the tunnel is longer than your arm you will need to shorten it. Go to the other side and give your chosen command. Then stick your hand with the treat through to the other side and give it to him/her once she/he hops/steps into the tunnel he/her only needs to attempt to get in if it's front paws are in the tunnel still give the reward. For harder to train guineapigs/rabbits give the treat at the attempt to go into the tunnel.

Repeat this over and over until your rabbit/guineapig is on the other side and praise her/him.

My rabbit only needed three treats and three hops to get through the tunnel and learned this trick in one day. I make take yours longer and more patients on your part but be consistent. And soon you will have a rabbit/guineapig running and hopping through the tunnel to the other side.

Treats. What treats do you give to your rabbit? I am looking for good healthy and tasty treats for my rabbits. I like to give them lettuce spring mixes mint, basil, and parsley. I also give them oats for their trick training because they are small and tasty. And an occasional wholewheat bread crust.
