Apple of My Eye
by Blissful_Writer

"Apple!" I nicker and run across the paddock. If your wondering, I'm a miniature horse. I can't be ridden by my owner. I can't go on trail rides with her. I can't do so much, but she doesn't seem to mind one bit.

Which, is the exact reason why I love her.

"Hey Apple. Wanna treat?" Rose, my owner, hands me a treat, and I gladly take it.

"There you go. Now, I want you to keep me company while I read today. You're always listening, and you'll just be there for me." I whinny and follow her to the big tree she likes to sit by.

I snuggle up against her on this cool spring day as she reads. I just sit there. It was peaceful, and I like it. Never boring. Now thinking about it, I don't get bored very often. I'm a pretty laid back horse.

Lazy me.

Rose strokes my neck and I nicker. Her touch was so gentle and nice.

"You are the Apple of my eye. Hey, what about that? You like it? Because that can be your show name. We're entering a competition!" Rose gives me a hug and says.

A what?

"I'm not riding you. I'm going to start training you to go over small jumps and such by yourself, with me leading you. Want to start today? It'll be so fun!" She talks to me like I'm human, like her. But I whinny in reply to her question.

If Rose is happy, I'm happy. If she's excited, I'm excited. But worst of all, if she's sad, I'm sad.

So, let's do this!

As if reading my mind, Rose exclaims, "Let's do this!" She drops her book on the ground and runs away, with me following close behind.

"Come along, Apple of My Eye, we have some training to do!"

And that's how it started. A life of being somewhat close to a normal horse, more love, and don't forget - more treats.

Juniper
By chestnutcolt13

I felt the pulse.
I heard his voice.
Still I did not see.

My lovely, My precious,
Wilt thou come back to me?

They say your days are done,
A horse can't live past 27,
But seriously,
I just can't send you to heaven!

The vet says, it's time.
To leave you to your fate
My love, I'll always remember,
That day you broke the gate!

And the one where you stole,
Every apple from the bowl,
Not to mention the time,
That you'd spook when the bells chimed.

My pet! My sweet!

Juniper, I love you. Wilt thou return to me?

Wilt thou return to me?

I wish I had a horse. Any horse will do.
I will name her Sue.
What about you?

I knew it was time. The glinting wire shone in the bright sun. It was the fence i had been dreading. I approached in a steady gait. I looked up. Everything went in slow motion. then she jumped. I closed my eyes and waited for the shock of the ground to come. But it never did. Me and my horse made it.

The Girls Ghost
Because his birthday was coming up Pharaoh, decided to have a horse race. The race was to be along the curving Nile river form Giza to Memphis. Pharaoh had a son named Ramses, who was a regal youth, and enjoyed horse races. This lean, tanned, particular prince was very proud. When he heard about the race, he did not want his sleek light gray Arabian named Shadow. No, the prince wanted a better horse for the race. He wanted to ride his father’s, the Pharaoh’s, horse. The Pharaoh’s horse was a midnight black Arabian named Spit-Fire. He was one of the fastest horses around, but the Pharaoh would not let Ramses ride his horse unless something happened to his own horse Shadow. Ramses silently let Shadow slip from his stall to make it appear that the stallion had gotten loose and run away.
Lena, a spunky Hebrew girl with brown windblown hair, was walking through the desert thinking about the sign that she had scrutinized in town that told of the horse race. She wished that she could enter but unfortunately she had no horse to ride. As she continued walking through the desert, she suddenly saw a sleek light gray stallion. Lena immediately fell in love with the horse and tracked it all day. When she found him she quietly walked up to him and found that he was exceptionally trained, so she rode him home. On the way she wondered what to name him, finally she decided on Ghost. The name fit him because he was as quick and fleet footed as a ghost. Lena knew that if she practiced that she could enter the race.
Lena worked very hard to train for the race because it was only a week away. Everybody doubted that she would have a chance to win, but they did not know who Ghost was. Surprisingly she was the only person that dared to enter against the prince. Lena was a headstrong girl and it was never easy to discourage her.
The day of the birthday race arrived and Lena was bravely at the starting line. Ramses laughed at seeing only a Hebrew girl for his challenger. He was proudly riding Spit-Fire, his father’s horse, in the big race. When he eyed Shadow, who was announced a Ghost, he started to worry. What if he let his father down on his birthday? Soon however his courage returned as he thought that girls could not ride as well as boys. Well he was wrong. When the race started poor Lena was left far, far behind. Soon she caught up. She passed him. She won! When they got back, she went up to claim her prize. Because she did well for a girl, Pharaoh awarded her with three hundred pieces of gold and what ever she desired. All Lena wanted was to keep Ghost and she was granted her wish.

Hi chestnutcolt,

Thanks for your submission! Unfortunately, it's a bit too scary for younger members. If you'd like to rewrite it and try again, you're welcome to do so.

The sound of galloping hooves filled the air. I sat up. What was going on? I looked over to my right and saw a small band of bachelor mustangs! I sucked in a breath.
"WOW," I said.
I stood up and went over to stand on the ridge. What I saw fully took my breath away. Chasing after the young stallions was the most majestic animal I had ever seen. He shook his golden head and glowing white mane while galloping after the younger stallions. His tail was streaming and billowing out behind him like a cape. Standing behind him around the watering hole was the rest of his herd, consisting of a few mares and colts. I stood watching them for a few minutes and forgot about the stallions. There was an amazing Appaloosa mare, directing the wandering foals back to their mothers.
"Probably the lead mare I thought."
I stood watching them for a few more minutes until I froze. I felt warm breath on my neck. I turned slowly around to be standing face to face with the Palomino Mustang stallion. The one I thought so beautiful. I looked into his wild, brown eyes. He bent his head lower, came closer to where I was facing his side, lowered to his knees, and finally dropped down to lie on his stomach. I took a step closer and put my leg over him, and very, very carefully, I put my weight on him. He stood up, shook his mane and started galloping with me on him. I named him Wind Storm.
"OMG, I'm riding a mustang! And yet I came here just to watch!" I said in my mind.
We galloped to his herd, back to the ledge, lowered himself again and I stepped off. He galloped away, but before I did, I ran my hand along his face, and stepped away.He ran away, just as beautiful before, turned around and let out a shrill whinny.
"Bye boy!" I called!

How often I wonder, when the time will come
For me to get my own pony, maybe sometime soon?

A bay, a gray, with a blaze or a sock, any pony will do, for me anyway!

English or Western, I don't really care, jumper or pole bender, any will do, 10.2 -14.2, a pony, a pony! A pony for me!

Old or young, green broke or trained, a pony for me, but only for me, I won't have to share.

That will be the day, when I get my own pony, for me, for me! When will it be?

(By the way, this is what I'm saying to myself for real! Haha! -horsecrazy04)

Sorry about my typos... it's supposed to be before he did, and he lowered himself and I got off... sorry about that!
