My Friend and I
By 123Liliana

I laughed as the wind blew across Freedom's mane, making him shake his head, making him look like he was laughing too. I was in the meadow by our cottage riding bareback on my best friend, my big black Arabian stallion, Freedom. He only allowed me to gallop with him, perched there right on his back. We would melt together and become one, galloping forever in the beautiful world we lived in. I, in those moments, would feel the strong bond forever that tied us, human and horse, together. It was just me and him out there, galloping away to the sunset.

Welcome
By 123Liliana

Welcome little foal
Welcome to the world
Welcome to danger
Welcome to beauty
Welcome to friendships
Welcome to sorrows
Welcome to the strong bond between man and horse
Welcome to life
Where it all begins.

I want an black Arabian stallion with a stripe down its head. It would be a wild horse, captured in its sleep. It would only let me ride it. I would ride bareback everyday. We would be friends forever.

My Silly Filly
By 123Liliana

Look at that filly
Playing in the field
She's acting really silly
But I like her that way
She has a funny spot
On her little head
Now she is rolling
And pretending to be dead.
I love my filly
More than I ever did
Even though she's silly
I like her that way.

Giving Up Hope

The Farley family was made up of Grace, her mother, and her father. Grace's grandfather lived on a ranch in Saskatchewan. Grace always loved going to her grandfather's ranch and riding the horses. Grace's family always went to the ranch for most holidays. It was the summer holidays and they had packed their bags and were heading out to the ranch. Grace was really excited because it meant she could visit all the horses including her favourite horse, Acer, a beautiful Appaloosa mare. She told her mum that they would have to stop and buy a load of carrots. Acer loved munching on the juicy orange treats. They were driving along when, suddenly, a lorry coming the other direction swerved and smashed into them!

Grace must have fallen unconscious because the next thing she knew she was lying in a bed and there was a nurse looking over her. The nurse noticed that she was awake and offered her some food that she had brought in on a tray. Grace thanked her and sat up to eat. As she sat up she noticed her legs, they were both in casts up in the air. She nearly fainted with horror. The nurse saw the look on her face. She gave Grace the food to distract her. Grace suddenly realized how hungry she was and so she started hungrily eating the food.

When she was finished she asked the nurse how long she had been asleep, and where her parents were. The nurse told her that she had been in a coma for almost 2 days straight. The doctor then walked in before the nurse could explain where Grace's parents were. The nurse then left the room taking away the empty tray and carefully closing the door. The doctor sat down on the chair beside Grace's bed. He cleared his throat and said that it was good that Grace was awake and how she looked so much better.

There was a long pause and then the doctor cleared his throat and spoke to Grace in a serious and quiet voice, “I am sorry but, umh... I have some bad news. Your umh... parents... are... unmh... dead” He whispered the last word so quietly that Grace only just caught it. Grace screamed in surprise and fear, then she started crying while thinking of all the fun times she'd had with her parents. At that moment she gave up hope and she thought, why should I be alive?! My life just isn't worth living! She thought those thoughts, she screamed, and cried for a long time and finally the tears wouldn't come and she just lay there.

After the doctor told her what happened, she lay there quiet, blocking everyone else out. The nurses and the doctors would come in try to persuade her to eat, to speak, to do something, but she just lay there, sad and angry. Who was the driver who had killed her parents? What could she do? Then she would start wailing. The next day her grandfather walked into the room, he too was sad because his dear hard working, caring son was gone, but he managed to smile as he saw Grace. Sad, but happy he ran to Grace's bedside and hugged her fiercely.

Grace got better and was allowed to leave the hospital so her grandfather took her to the ranch where they lived for the rest of their lives. Grace lived as happily as possible at the ranch with her grandfather and the horses. The horses helped cure her both on the inside and the outside so when Grace's grandfather passed on she took over the ranch and lived the rest of her life knowing that her parents and grandparents were watching, taking care of her and making sure she lived happily ever after.

All the little dear children
Having fun, climbing trees
Or making a great big den
Finding all the little keys
To all the secret passages

Ice-Cream fun all day long
Melting from all the heat
Licking chins with tongues
Dribbling, not that neat
But it is AWESOME FUN!

Go get the horses
Tack up and ride
Ride around the courses
Look at that Clyde
Jumping threw the air
