@Callie: For the rearing up on the lead, here's what you can try to do; When she gives the slightest hint of rearing up, shank on her lead ( This means pull down sharply, and hard on the lead. ) Try holding the rope a bit more tighter, towards the ground. Once she stops rearing and follows you calmly, reward her with a treat or pat. This tells her shes being good and needs to act this way all the time.
For the chasing; I'm sure a horse wouldn't trample anybody unless their insane, so for the chasing, just stand there when shes come at you. If she doesn't stop, step out of the way. And keep stepping out of the way of her, until she realizes shes not going to be able to succeed at chasing you out. Once she doesn't chase you out, walk up to her and reward her with a treat or pat.
For kicking at people; I'm not sure anything can help this... Unless you tie a pink ribbon in her tail which signals she kicks. But maybe this will help... I know it seems harsh and cruel to swat a horse, but whenever she kicks, smack the leg she kicked with. Don't do it as hard as you can, though. Softly. Hopefully she'll get to the point she'll realize if she kicks, shes going to get hit. When she finally stops kicking, and someone walks behind her, give her a treat for not kicking. Or a pat on the neck.

These all will make her respect you more as the leader. Horses need to know that you are the leader, and they need to do as you tell them. Their big animals, treat them as they deserved to be treated, but they can also take a portion of pain at times.

Hi flowergunner

I am going to put in my 2 cents here.

A horse rearing is doing it for one of two reasons

They are being held back from going forward and are being spurred or whipped, or they are misbehaving.

Rearing can be very dangerous, Keith Hosman has an ad for a downloadable book about how to break that habit. I highly recommend anyone who has a rearing horse go to horsemanship101.com and look at that book.

For a horse that is charging at you, stepping out of the way shows you are giving in to the horse, as it is making you move. That is also not a good idea, horses show dominance by moving other horses around, you want to defend your space not give in to the horse by moving out of your space when a horse asks you.

BUT!!!!!!! DO NOT GET TRAMPLED TO PROVE A POINT. YOU MAY DIE.

You are in very, very dangerous territory.

Kicking is also a dangerous vice, once again Keith Hosman has some advice about that as well.

Please understand that ill-trained horses can hurt you. A well trained horse is a friend, but I have met horses that when you reached out to pet them would take your fingers off. So please, if you are working with a horse that is not well trained get an adult or a professional trainer to advise or help you.

Thanks,

JC

As JC said, defend your space when the horse charges, but don't get hurt or killed for it. As the horse is charging towards you, not close, but right when you see him start running. Don't move unless it's safety reasons, and wake your arms above your head. Make big movements, being sure move your arms alot. The horse should quit charging, either stop and go the other way, or change direction.

Again, when you're faced with a half ton of oncoming horse, stopping to decide what their intention may or may not be is no place for a young person.

This is a matter that needs adult help.

I don't have the horse that rears, Jane. I was trying to help Callie. But I have heard just stepping out of the way and staying in the field helps horses to understand they won't chase you off. I only recommended stepping out of the way when the horse gets way too close and is still charging.

I agree flower! Stand your ground unless it's a safety thing.

This is a matter than needs an adult involved. There is danger.
