Can I join? I do the riding lessons and last time I had pre-typed everything and put it on a writing program. The first and second posts came out fine, but then the second post got mixed up with the third and fourth posts, so I had to type that and the writing wasn't good at all. | Viviana A. & My Pony | 2010-09-26 17:01:25 | | We need to help new members understand lessons better so that they do not leave upset and confused. We can talk about some ideas to help new members here, I think.
To New Members attending a lesson for the first time:
My advice:
1. - Let JC know (just once) that this is your first lesson. This way other members can take their turns first and you can watch.
2. - Be patient, and read what others are doing. The basics of the lesson is that this is a pretend arena where we describe what our ponies are doing. So to get some ideas of what to type, you can read what others are doing first.
3. the phrase 'pre-type' means to type in your text box before your turn and click return right away. This is best when trying a timed event, like a barrel race. You can use something like Word or wordpad on your computer to pretype alot, save it, and when its your turn, you can copy and paste.
4. :) means make a smiley face. This means your turn is over. If JC asks you to do a smiley, that means it shows you are done. Some events can have a time limit.
5. Everyone gets a ribbon at the end of the day whether you win or lose. Sure there are 1, 2, 3, 4 place but to start out its nice to have something!
6. Try again! If you didnt do well, there's always another day!
~~Lil | Lilliadruid & Pony | 2010-11-10 07:00:52 | | Tips For Riding Lessons:
1.) Give descriptions on your ponies' apparel. (Ex. How her/his hooves are polished, her coat, her tack etc.)
2.) Give description on how you look or how your position is using quality adjectives.
3.) Give a detailed description how how your pony moves. His neck, legs, if his head is arched etc.)
4.) Give a detailed description on how you and your pony jump.
5.) Make sure you have great sportsmanship and try your best! As long as you did this, you have won first place. It does not matter about the ribbons !
Happy Trails and good luck in the lessons!

Comment on something that people wouldn't notice otherwise, but don't go over the top - *brushes back a few strands of hair that came loose from her hairnet*, *tightens her grip on the reins with her gloved hands*
Think about your pony's conformation. I've been in a few shows here where we were asked about our ponies' conformation - and we had to describe it. Conformation is how your pony is built. Examples of good conformation include:
-A strong and well-muscled neck that, when viewed from the side, slightly curves outside toward the crest rather than curving inwards.
-A head in proportion to the body, and symmetrical (you could have put a mirror down the middle of the horse's face and it would look the same). The eyes should be large and well-set, and the teeth should meet evenly.
-The withers should be clearly defined.
-The hindquarters should be strong, muscular and well-rounded.
The body should be deep around the girth to make room for the heart and lungs.
-The forelegs should be straight, the joints "clean" and free of blemishes. Knees should be flat with medium length cannon bones and pasterns.
-The hind legs should be straight and even, neither too far under the horse nor too far behind.
Bad or undesirable conformation:
-cow hocks
-bowed hocks
-pigeon toed
-splay footed
-parrot mouth
-ewe neck
-fallen crest
-swan neck

| Katie and Bravery & Bravery | 2010-11-15 02:12:41 | | Hi can I join this club?
Here are some tips:
Go easy on your pony/horse's mouth,
Don't jab the reigns whrn you jump,
Praise your mount after the course is finnished. He did a great job!
Check your girth twice ( once when you put the saddle on and anohter time before you mount)
Make sure there is no loose skin trapped under the girth.Trapped skin makes saddle sores appear.
Encourage your horse to jump strongly and clearly over obstacles.
Work on your position in the saddle and on the smoothness of your horses stride,
If your horse holds his head too high fit a martingale,
Don't forget to fit boots or shin pads on your horse when jumping. For flat work fit banages.
Well I'll write down more hints and tips next time I'm on.
Mrs Crandal, How are my tips?
