*** Performer Stables***

Hestie: *I give Sara a light squeeze with my knees and cluck to her and she starts off at a lively trot. I lay my right rein over her neck, asking her to go to the right of the barrel and around it to the left. I switch reins again and again, guiding her through the maze of barrels. Then I squeeze Sara a bit more, asking her for a more lively trot. She tightens her stride, lifting her legs higher to avoid striking her hooves against the poles. She arches her neck and her mane flows out freely as we move quickly over the poles. Then I give her a light kick, accompanied by a bit of clucking, and she flies into a smooth, fast canter. She tosses her head, trying to gallop, but I expertly pull gently on the reins and hold her in. Then in anticipation of the oncoming jumps I lean forward, rise in my saddle and keep my feet down. I hover just above the pommel as we soar into the sky, flying over the mossy log. Then, quickly, I lean back to avoid flying over Sara's head and to help her land in a smoother, well-balanced way. Then we're off again and lean into the wind. I rise again, keeping my head up and my heels down and we rise again over the last log. We land smoothly on the other side, and I pull Sara into a skidding stop, stirring up a cloud of dust. Then I cluck and nudge Sara into a smooth, slow walk and guide her to the tarp. Sara skids to a stop in fear of the crackly noise nearly throwing me. But I keep my seat, despite the lacking of a horn and I reassure her with a squeeze. I let her head free so she can view the tarp, yet I keep her facing it. Then, when her quivering slows, and finally stops, I give her the slightest nudge. She walks over the tarp cautiously her ears and eyes alert. Her nostrils quiver, but she walks over it and then lets out a sigh of relief after we leave it. I walk her slowly to the gate and hop off, motioning Marian in.* Good luck on the tarp!

Marian: Thanks! *I apply a gentle kick to Force's ribs, and he instantly knows my meaning. He jumps into a fast-paced, high-stepping trot. I pull gently on his right rein, then his left, then right again, and so on, taking Force through the barrels. Then, through light pressure on the reins I guide him to the poles. I pull him in a bit and we dance lightly over the poles, the tips of his hooves just touching the dust. Then I give him a firm nudge with my heels and we take off at a speedy pace. I listen to the thunder of her hooves striking the dirt. I listen to the rhythm. 1,2,3. 1,2,3. I rise in my stirrups as we clear the log. We fly over it with great excellency. Force is a perfect picture, his front legs tucked as he soars into the air. I too, look good, my chin up, my heels down, my attention focused on my horse, and the jumps. We land lightly on the other side, canter for a few lengths and once again, we're up in the air, flying over the world, all alone in the sky. After we land on the opposite side I slowly rein him in. We slow to a walk by the time we reach the tarp, and I use my horse psychology to my advantage. I let Force stand by the edge of the tarp, letting him survey it, letting him go over this frightful object whenever he wishes, so long as he goes. After a bit, he puts a foot tentatively forward. I back him up with praise and support him strongly with my legs, urging him to go on. He walks slowly over the tarp at last, proudly, unafraid and sure of himself. Then I walk him out of the room, hop off and give him an encouraging pat.* Good boy.

(How do we know what time it is?)
She leans forward and hugs Bingo then walks him out and untacks, grooms him, then puts him in his stall. Haley watched him for a bit before deciding to take Louie for a walk. A yawn over took her as she grabbed his small red halter and clipped it on him. Louie nuzzled her knee and she let out a laugh. "Your not a horse! Your a dog!" She leaned down and scratched his chin then gave him a carrot. He crunched it noisily and she waited for him to finish before walking around with the small colt. They walked out of the barn and towards the stallion barn to see Jazzy. On the way, she got him to do the cutest trot as he stretched out his short legs. She giggled as he bounced up and down. Haley brought him to a stop outside Jazzy's stall. The large horse stuck his head over the door and sniffed the smaller horse. Louie half reared and back ed up with a snort as Jazz yanked his head back in. "Intimidated by a mini horse Jazz?" She laughed as he shook his head and walked over to the food. "Ill take you out once im done with our walk. Promise." And with that, the colt and the teen continued walking around campus.
