| Heavens, I don't really remember exactly. It was years ago down in Texas--I was only 9 or so. My mom was looking to buy this mule from a friend of hers, so we drove out to their place, and while they were looking at the mule, I was standing around looking so bored their teenage daughter asked if I wanted to ride a horse. I said yes, so she put me on it and led me around and that was about it. . . |

Okay, y'all, sorry I didn't get the new Horse of the Week posted on Monday, but I had no Internet so I'm making up for it now.
Our latest horse is the Orlov Trotter! This beautiful critter was developed in Russia in the late 18th century, named after its creator, Count Alexis G. Orlov. He crossed Arabian, Thoroughbred, Danish, Mecklenburg, and Norfolk Trotter blood--and the Orlov Trotter was born. If you ever see one, it'll probably be a gorgeous dappled gray, with large, expressive eyes. These horses are tall and muscular, sturdy and full of energy, and while they are good for riding and driving, they are often used in racing, usually in the Russian "troika harness", which has three horses abreast with the outside horses cantering and the center one trotting. |
