*** Red Star Competition Club****** We do the following competitions:Jumping,Dressage,Barrel Racing,Racing and Roping(we may do more).

March: *I walk into Val's stall, talking softly. I slip on his halter and buckle it snugly under his chin. We walk into the hall of the barn and I clip the cross ties on either side of his halter. I fetch my black dressage saddle, my bridle and my white pad inscribed with the word Val. I also snatch the grooming box on my way out of the tack room. I set the saddle and bridle on the railing of the stairs and set the grooming box on the bench. I take a rubber curry comb and begin to brush my Val, moving the brush in symmetrical circles all over his body. Next I replace the curry comb with a dandy brush and groom him with that as well, taking care to remove all the dirt, loose hair and dead skin that the curry comb brought up. Now I reach for the body brush and smooth down every single hair on my horse till he shines like the sun. Now I take a sponge and wash around my horse's nose, eyes and ears. I take another sponge and wash under Val's tail. I give him a final rub down with a towel, bringing out all the shine possible. I take a hoof pick and clean his feet thoroughly, remembering that that his feet are viewable as he trots, and take a rag and wash the outside of his hoof. Next I apply a nice coat of hoof polish to his hooves. Next I braid his mane in many little braids and roll them up and pin them. I brush out his tail and do it in a french tail braid. Now I place my pad on his back and swing the saddle gracefully up on top of it. I let the girth down and reach under him and take hold of it. I lift up the flap and buckle the billet straps firmly. Now I take the bridle in one hand, un-buckle the halter and wrap my arm around his neck. I lift the bit to his mouth and he opens eagerly. I praise him. I pull the headstall up and buckle the chin strap. I lift the reins over his head and take them in my hand, keeping one rein a bit tighter so if walks on while I mount he will circle around me. I face him, my shoulder at his shoulder. I take the stirrup in one hand and slip my left foot into it. I put my other hand up by his pommel; along with my hand holding the reins. I bounce in the stirrup a bit and rise up quickly, pulling on the pommel and swinging my leg over the saddle. It is all over in a second so you do not realize how much muscle and effort goes into it. I pick up the right stirrup with my foot and gather the reins and cluck to him. We walk on and I warm up before entering the arena.*

I will post my show after I care for the chickens.

March: *After warming up Val, I run my hand along his neck. Val arches his neck beautifully on cue. I collect my reins, holding them correctly and we walk gracefully into the arena. I pull on the left rein and we walk to the judges stand. I lift my top hat off my head and hold it at my waist as a salute. Then I place it back on my head and pull on the left rein till we have turned a 180 degree angle and then I urge him forward. He trots on with vigor, and he collects his gait, shortening his stride and bringing more weight underneath us. We ride on around the arena twice and we finish in due time as it seems that Val’s strength is waning. Once again I pull gently on the left rein and we turn to the middle. We trot to the middle, to the letter R and we slid to a halt. I signal him to trot, yet hold him in with my reins and he trots in place. Val lowers his hindquarters, collects, and raises the shoulders by taking weight onto the hindquarters, rather than hollowing the back and piaffing with the hindquarters trailing out behind. Val withhold his desire to go forwards and does as I ask very nicely. I count his beats slowly. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven and eight. The, at my signal, we turn 90 degrees to the right and I let him canter on, instead of trotting in place. I signal him to extend his movements, and he does, extending them as far as possible. It is very fine to watch, a beautiful shining horse cantering halfway across the arena. We reach S The we spin around on Val’s powerful back legs and we collect a bit and slow to a trot. Perfectly on cue, Val extends his trot and moves easily to the judges stand, or to Q. Now I urge him forward, and he begins a normal canter to the gate or to X on the left lead. then, in mid canter, I cue him to change leads. He does so, his movements full of grace. As told, he switches leads in mid stride twice more and then rises on his hind legs and spins around, lands on his front feet once more and runs backward toward the judges stand. I cue him and he bows at the same time I salute, and we walk out of the ring, Val’s legs crossing each other on the way out. I lead him to the barn and give him a good rub down and water and grain and then I walk back to the ring.*
