**** Writers and Book Lovers **** post one of your favourite books and your story and you're in, there are competitions for best stories

Here is part 2 of my iceskating story-

I opened the door to my house and smelled apple pie.
My favorite!
“Julie, come in here.” my mother called.
I walked into the parlor to find my father reading the paper and my mother and sister talking.
“How did you do?” asked my mother.
“Well, I got the lead!” I shrieked.
“Honey!” my mother jumped up and ran over to me to give me a hug.
“That’s wonderful,” said my father as he puffed on his cigar.
“Julie,” my sister said. “I forgive you for ruining my beret. Besides, you don’t have any money to buy me a new one anyways.”
I forgot, I have enough money to buy ice skates! Finally, no more fake ice skating!
“Uh, mother I have to go meet Ellis in town. Sorry I forgot to tell you.”
“It’s fine dear. Oh I ran into one of your dance friends today. She said you didn’t invite her to the party, so I did. I believe it was, Emily, yes that’s who it was.”
“But mother, I absolutely loath her! Why does she have to come?”
“Julie! How rude of you! Now aren’t you supposed to be somewhere?”
I sighed and ran upstairs to my room. I lifted up my pillow and grabbed my purse that held my money. I had saved exactly 30 dollars for a pair of ice skates.
I then went back stairs and outside. We lived in the country and right next to a forest so I had a long way to walk to get a cab.
* * *
I got out of the cab and looked at the store in front of me. Blades Shoe Department. I opened the door and bells jingled.
“Hello and welcome to Blades Shoe Department. How may I help you?”
“I am looking for ice skates please.”
The man led me to the back of the store and left me to decide. There was a whole wall filled with ice sates. My eyes darted around until they landed on a pair. They were white and had sparkly blades. I sat down and put my feet into them I laced them and tried to stand up. I tripped and fell into someone’s arms. I looked up and saw Tom. My face turned as red as a tomato.
“Oh my gosh I’m so sorry.”
“It’s fine Julie. We’ll have to do this every day in practice. Besides, I heard a rumor that there might be a kiss involved.” and with that he grinned at me and walked away.
Oh my gosh! Why did he just walk away? Does he like me? What is going on?
I took the ice skates off and brought them to the desk to but them. I handed the man the money and left with the skates hanging over my back.
I turned on the sidewalk and saw Tom grinning at me.
“I didn’t know you could skate.”
“Yeah, there’s a pond outside our house and I like to skate on it but I decided I needed these to do it right.”
“So are you ready for practice tomorrow?”
“Yeah. I’m really excited.”
“I feel honored.” I looked a Tom with a puzzled look and he laughed.
“Well its just that your excited to be with me. I mean come on, your all over me.” and with that he flashed me another grin and walked to a cab.
“Wait, I didn’t mean it like that,” but he was already gone.
This is horrible! First I forget my name then I fall into his arms and now he knows that I like him! And he said that there was a kissing scene! How is this going to work?
* * * * *
I quickly ran inside my house and sighed at the warmth. Marybeth came from the kitchen and her eyes bulged when she saw me.
“Where did you get that?”
I shrugged off my coat and scarf. “I bought it with my money.”
My mother came in and her jaw dropped to the floor.
“Where in the heavens did you get those?”
“I bought them with my money. Now I can ice skate for real!”
“Oh Julie! You know how much I dislike you doing that. Why do you do it?”
“What’s going on?” my father asked.
“She bought a pair of ice skates,” replied Marybeth with a smug smile.
“Why on earth would she do that?”
“She wants to skate. Go ahead and ruin your life!” yelled my mother.
“What are you talking about? I just bought a pair of ice skates!”
“You could injure yourself and then you couldn’t do ballet!”
“Fine, I’ll be careful. But whatever you say I’m going to skate!” I then ran up into my room and slammed the door.

Chapter ten:
The next thing Rosy noticed was she was in a huge living room with a television which looks like a movie screen in the middle. There was a big chandelier on the wall and it shone on to the windows to make a sudden sparkling flash of light. There was a man and woman sitting face to face on the wooden chairs.
The woman had blonde hair with a diamond clip that holds it into a bun. She was wearing a sleeveless green dress and had a kind, friendly face. The man had a combed neat hair which was dark golden and had a mustache which was rather quiet used to even if you walked in a second ago.
Hope ran over to her parents and talked to them about Rosy, her aunt and Star.
“Rosy and Aunt Miller, these are my parents, ma‘s name is Claire Almond and pa’s name is Arthur Almond. Ma and pa this is Rosy Monte the wanted buyer of Star and Aunt Miller who is Rosy Monte’s aunt.”Hope said as she ran towards the kitchen to grab some drinks.
Rosy and Aunt Miller sat down at the dining room while Hope and her parents sat down face to face to them. “Rosy darling you must understand that Star is a wonderful horse but she’s not good at anything and only good for savage so do you want to return her or as Hope said buy her? By the way why do you want to buy her? A girl like you need a better horse.” said Mrs Almond. ”Here’s the story, well when I was at Winter Creek Stables, I always rode Star and she was such a sweetheart, but then one day I had a bad fall on her and Ms Wesley said she would be put up for sale or swap. I never gave up hope for the mare and then I found her and these.” Rosy said as one tear by one rolled down onto the letter and the news paper as she handed them to the Almond family. “Hope… we’ll deal with you later, but can you fetch Star for me Rosy darling?” said Mrs Almond.
Rosy ran towards the hitching post, her feet were barely touching the dusty ground as she was waiting to see Star since the start of the trip to Silver Bell town. It was before five minutes until she go to the hitching post. She walked with Star and left Wind on the hitching post with a hand full of oats. Star’s black coat shone out into the sun as Rosy took her to the front door.
“Rosy bring her into the stables, it’s in the back dear.” Mr Almond said. “Alright, it wouldn’t be a problem at all for me or Star.” Rosy said as she giggled, that was the first time she laughed or giggled since she arrived to Red Rose City. “Follow me, it is a very easy way to the stables but also very eye catching for new comers.” Hope said as she slid into the side of the mansion. Rosy followed Hope as she patted Star and talked to her in a soothing voice.
The stable was bigger than Rosy thought and horses of all kind were in the ring practicing with their masters.
“Let’s discuss this okay dear, we can trade you with one of our fine horses for Star, or you’ll have to pay quite big like say eight hundred or more, I’m sure I’ll swap her.” Mr Almond said as he brought out a Arabian horse which was a gelding with a white coat. “Swap her again? Star, I don’t mean to be rude but I’m sorry… it’s just that… excuse me I need a moment.” Rosy said as she ran towards the horse trailer with tears rolling on to her shirt.
Chapter eleven:
Rosy went into the corner of the horse trailer where there was a little bench that Aunt Miller put in a while ago for herself or someone to sit while they put in their horses or took them out.
"Are you okay Rosy? I know how it felt because pa and ma wanted me to swap my first horse Dapple the Paint Horse mare to a fine thoroughbred mare named Winter Breeze. Star is a Frisian is not she? I can tell that she is in fine hands.” Hope said as she smiled at Rosy. Rosy was listening very close. Hope continued “I was six that time and I loved Dapple with my life, she was a champion in real life and also my mind but like I said, pa and ma swapped her. I wanted to tell them that I would just like Dapple but I could not argue for their kindness and respect for me. I always had a picture of Dapple on my bedroom wall” The slow airy wind rushed through her hair. Her tears were following the direction of the wind which made each drop dropped on to the hard metal ground and make a soft“ cling ,clang, cling, clang” .
Rosy felt sorry for Hope when she quickly thought about Star and her own tears brought her crying but she stopped and took a look when she heard steps.
Hope shivered and Rosy’s teeth chattered. The steps they were closer and closer.
“Come on girls, we have to make a decision… it’s up to you Rosy.” Aunt Miller said as she gave a smiled. Rosy and Hope let out a breath and signed.
Chapter twelve:
Rosy and Hope was inside the mansion. Rosy chewed on her nails like they were soft sweet candies. Hope was nervous too, she didn’t want Star to be sell for savage but she wanted Star to have a good life with a great owner that the mare had known her whole life and Hope knew Rosy was the one, the true owner of Star.
“Rosy, you have two options… either swap or buy… but if you buy you have to have an auction and there are people who want a horse.” said Mr Almond. “Pa! Auction, it is not fair to put up Star for an auction when here we have Rosy…” Hope stopped talking when Mr Almond signaled to stop. “That is quite enough Hope and Rosy would you like to have a chance to say the first number at the auction?” said Mr Almond. Rosy nodded, she wasn’t feeling like answering and all she could do now is just say yes, it’s the only way to have Star.
Mrs Almond brought up a jar of lemonade. It was a sweet sour and refreshing taste but in Rosy’s mouth, it was anything but blur and dull.
They drove back from the mansion. “Rosy, we will, we will get you Star.” Aunt Miller said as she squeezed Rosy’s hand.
They drove and drove until they got back to Red Rose City.
“It’s going to be a long day tomorrow so you have to eat and go straight to bed Rosy.” Aunt Miller said as she gave Rosy the mash potato. “Okay… I hate to go to an auction with an empty stomach.” Rosy said as she digs into her bowl of mash potato.
Chapter thirteen:
Rosy got into her purple dress which was filled with white roses all over except the bow. She wanted to look her best when Star was there.
“Rosy, it’s a call from your mum but your dad is at work!” Aunt Miller called out to Rosy who was putting a purple head band on her head. “Coming… yes mum it’s me, I’m having a good time but found Star here, yes the horse that bucked me off. Anyway Aunt Miller said I could buy her so I went to her new owners and then they said Star is to be put up for auction , at first I was a little sad but… it’s okay mum , I’m alright.. Any who, now we’re going to the auction to buy the horse of my life.” Rosy said as she listened for a reply. “Bye, double that…wish me good luck.” Rosy quickly hang up and pounced to the car. She quickly grabbed the one thousand dollar check from her jewellery chest and put it in her satin purse.
“Are you ready?” Aunt Miller asked as she buckled her seatbelt. Rosy nodded as she turned to the window next to her. “There, there it is! The auction is here.” screamed Rosy.
They drove into a stable which had a sign on the entrance saying: Welcome to Ally’s Stable. Where the best horses are boarded and sold by Ally with a picture of that woman. A white fence covered with roses secured the paddock which was connected to stalls which were painted fall colours.
There Star stand in the middle with lots of people surrounding her. A woman about twenty six years old next to Star holding a sign called Auction.
Rosy walked up to the woman when she realized it was Ally from the sign she saw when she walked in. She had black hair with white highlights which was put into braids. She wore a pink, velvet dress with a blue sash. Her boots were covered with glitter and a bud of rose in the middle of each pair. She had diamond earrings which was blue heart with four tiny white diamonds on each.
There a girl about her age walked up smugly to Ally, Rosy took a careful look and saw it was Emily Nightingale. She was dressed in a summer dress with a belt which was made out of flower petals.
“What are you doing here Emily?” Rosy snapped. “Getting a new horse of course, what do you think? Star is perfect, Rad need a break from winning of course, bye.” Emily retorted with a laugh. “Doesn’t deserve another horse, or she’ll just ruin it with her terrible attitude.” Rosy mumbled to herself.
Rosy walked over to Ally with a smile. She saw the Almonds walking up also and suddenly felt worried. “Rosy, I am really glad you are here. Star is going to be your horse. I just know it. Star is your horse. I just do not wish anyone else got her in an auction.” Hope stopped when the girls heard Ally shouting ‘the auction for Star begins right NOW!!’ Rosy ran over, she ran like the wind without caring for anyone else but Star and the auction. Hope followed Rosy but she said sorry for Rosy and herself. “The person who starts the auction is our own ten year old girl from Winter Creek Stable Rosy Monte.” exclaimed Ally.
Chapter fourteen:
Everybody was looking as Rosy and she did not know what to say. “Three hundred dollars I’ll pay.” Rosy said as she raised an eyebrow. “I’ll give four hundred.” said Emily. “Four hundred and ninety nine.” said a woman in black. “I’ll give one thousand dollars for Star.” Rosy shouted up, everybody was astounded even Rosy. “Going once, going twice and sold to this young lady Rosy Monte.” Ally shouted to the crowd. “Wait, it is so not fair, this girl gets Star and I don’t? I’m so going to get her; you’ll regret what you’ve done.” Emily snapped. “Well, let’s celebrate!” Hope shouted.
In the stable where no one, there was Star, neighing happily. When other people were celebrating outside Emily, however was inside the stable making food for Star. “I’ll add two kilos of oat, two carrots, three kilos of hay, little of a fizzy drink and four apples.” Emily said as her red coloured nails pressed against the bucket. She slowly put it in the corner when Star started ate from the metal bucket. “That’ll teach you, Rosy Monte… nobody; I mean nobody messes with the Nightingale family.” Emily whispered to herself when her hair slapped on to her red lips.
“Star, I brought you an apple,” Rosy whispered as she slowly walked inside of the stall. Just then, she saw Star pounding on the ground and kicking her stomach. Rosy screamed and ran to Star, she patted her on the neck but Star acted more untamed. “Easy girl, you don’t want to hurt yourself…no Star, don’t kick.” Rosy said peacefully to the untamed horse.
She ran back and got Ally and the others, when she was there, she saw Star lying on the floor. “Star, no please don’t go Star… I just had you.” Rosy cried. Her tears once more for filled her eyes. She dug her face into Star listening to her slow, soft breathing. “Who did this to a poor horse? They’re one of us you know.” Ally said, her voice was filled with anger than sadness.
Emily was there too, her heart, for once filled with love and care. She burst into tears and kneels next to Star; also dug her head into the warm black coat.
“I’m so sorry, I didn’t know a horse could die like that, I just wanted her myself… even though I love Rad, I’ve been on Star since I was five when you weren’t there Rosy… and then you came Rosy Monte, Star have to be your trainee horse then and swap me with some horse else. Then, my mum got me Rad… she thought it’ll take my mind off Star… but I always loved Star myself then I heard the auction so I was going to swap Rad for Star but Ally said on the count three. I loved her… all the things I said about you and your friends were because, because I was jealous how Star I realized liked you more. I didn’t mean to hurt her, I just wasn’t me. I just wanted Star myself and if I can’t have her… no one can. That’s what I thought then but now, I’m putting my childhood, loved horse in danger.” Emily confessed. “Emily, you know you could just tell me that… tell us that.” Rosy whispered. “The vet, she could be still alive, come on someone call the vet!” Ally shouted when a man in white suite ran over to the telephone.
Chapter fifteen:
Fifteen minutes later, the vet, Dr Ruby finished examining the horse. “There now, Star will be alright… just had a mistake of eating. Someone must have putted in unusual things for a horse to eat. Just make sure for the next two or three weeks she’ll be only eat warm mash and oats but it must be soft otherwise nothing else is allowed.” Dr Ruby said as she patted Rosy and Emily on the back.
“It’s my entire fault; I know what to do… Rosy you are the right owner for Star, not me… I think for a while, I’ll be with Rad all the time.” Emily said as she smiled. “Thank you, I’ll see you in about one or two weeks, wow, time just flies away.” Rosy said as she hugged Emily.
Rosy went into the stables and hugged Star, she made Star a warm mash and quickly give it to her in a wooden feeding box. She groomed Star well and plaited her mane with purple ribbons.
Rosy went outside after taking care of Star and went to the public telephone at the Ally’s Stable. She called her mum and dad. “Hello, mum, dad… yeah is great when am I coming back? Five days… How come? Yes that’s great; dad got a job at the car insurance office? That’s awesome. I got Star back, long story but got her back,” Rosy said waiting for a reply. “Bye.” said Rosy.
She went outside to find Hope, Ally, Mr and Mrs Almond and Aunt Miller. There she saw Hope with all of the people she was looking for. “Rosy, I am so glad you are okay… I recognize that you have to go back to your ton in five days. It is extremely heartbreaking… but I do guess you want to see your friends and family.” murmured Hope.
Aunt Miller took Rosy by the hand and went to the car. “So I guess I’ll ship Star tomorrow and she’ll be there when you are Rosy.” Ally assumed as she winked at Rosy. So Star was left and Rosy and her aunt went back to the house.
Rosy sprinted to her room; she lay on the bed in her pink heart pajamas. Aunt Miller knocked on the pink French doors. “May I come in? I hope you don’t mind.” asked Aunt Miller. “Sure, I don’t mind at all. It’s not like I’m feeling contrary to you.” Rosy replied when Aunt Miller walked in.
“I can’t believe you are going back, I love having you here, just four more days and you’re gone. What an adventure you had. I must say, Star is such a great horse. She might just need to learn a little respect; she is slightly rude and sort of buck people off. Other than that, she remarkable, she has a speed of a cheetah and the jump of a rabbit and the energy of a five year old child. Shocking.” remarked Aunt Miller. “Totally,” replied Rosy.
Chapter sixteen:
Four days past and it was time, Rosy was getting a ride in the Almond family’s private jet. It was the colour dull grey with the logo in the middle “The Almonds are flying air Dreamland” which was in bright red.
“I’ll miss you… all the help you’ve given me it has gone to good use, you can count on that.” Rosy said as she manages to smile to smile to Hope. “No, thank you Rosy, you have helped me realized that even though I lost my loved childhood horse Dapple, there is going to be other horses I may love but I only have one heart and one ability to have a favourite, thank you Rosy.” said Hope gratefully.
“Hope, you could just have told us that, we would get Dapple back for you if we knew this and we will. Maybe after this trip… Dapple is at the town that is next to where Rosy lives.” Mrs Almond said as she patted Hope’s back. “Thank you.” replied Hope.
Rosy travelled through hard hours but then she finally arrived back, Hope and her family drop off at the nearby town to buy the exquisite Dapple back for Hope.
Rosy ran to the stables and found her mum, dad, Ms Wesley, Angel, Izzy and Emily. They all hugged Rosy and listen to the adventure she had. Star was resting in the stall nearest to her.
“I’m so glad you are back.” Rosy’s mum said as she hugged Rosy for the second time. “Now, you have your own horse… you don’t have to use any other horses from any other place.” Ms Wesley said as she laughed. “Well, I better go talk to Angel, Izzy and maybe even Emily.” Rosy said as she quickly jumped from the log she was sitting on. Everything at the stable was the same and nothing had change apart from that now, Emily and Rosy, Izzy and Angel are all friends.
“I’m just glad I’m back, I was thinking… now I’m back at Winter Creek Stables… we could have that sleepover.” Rosy said to Angel and Izzy. “Totally true that, maybe we could invite Emily… she is our friend now.” said Izzy. “Yeah, Emily would you like to come to our sleepover?” asked Angel. “Sure, I’m sure we can be friends now… all of us.” Emily said as she smiled at the girls. “We better go now… It’s getting late and time for the sleepover anyway.” reminded Rosy.
