*** Green Horse Green Rider *** Real life horse training discussion group.

thanks for the FYI on the stirrups for jumping Mac. I've never jumped but want to try it alot. Missy loves to run and jump (Jumps the fences all the time, and RUNS in our neighbors open field when she escapes!) My older sister said "You want to jump and gallop and God gave you a horse that loves both!"
She's green though, so we'll have to train her in direction, respect, and some other things. My mom says "she's just like ME in personalty so it'll be effort for the trainer."

The woman that got her head crushed had been training and riding for fifteen years. It's okay if you don't want to wear a helmet. Just be safe as much as you can.

Me too, I have taken lessons. I give lessons. And I learn every day.

Oh. and

I ALWAYS WEAR A HELMET

I used to only wear them sometimes, but a neighbor of mine who is a wonderful National - competition - level - rider (Arabs in dressage) thought one day *I am just getting on for a minute* and did not put on her helmet.

This is a woman whose riding makes me inspired. She moves like the horse is part of her.

Plastic bag flew by

Horse reared and plunged left

She landed on her head

She survived

Her speech was slurred for years.

It took her two years before she could ride again.

I looked at how blessed my life is and how lucky I am and went,

WHAT AM I THINKING?

I never ride without a helmet now. Ever.

Yeah I know someone who has had his horse for 12 years and one day got on her and she reared and he fell off and got a concusion. His helmet cracked in half and it saved his life.
helmets are cool- they even have neat covers!

Sorry to change the subject but you were saying about spooky things! Make sure that you never bring a spooky horse where a hot air ballon will go down. I know someone who lost two horses who galloped around their feild so fast that their legs couldn't be mended. They were grand Prix dressage horses as well. A horse with legs not used to fast speeds can collapse if used too much. But it is much more dangerous when the horse is not used to the strange things in the world and they might get even worse.

if you try to paint a horse and you have NO talent to paint, it's horrible!

oh, I fed Missy her grain and sweet feed today and she was lying down in the hay. It was really cool for me.
so far I've seen her
yawn
scratch her cheek with her hind leg
roll
buck rear
run!
lying down
and she nays every time I call her.

You do not need to feed grain or sweet feed unless your horse is getting skinny from being worked hard. In fact, feeding grain when a horse is not worked can cause problems with both their digestion and their behavior.

To quote an old cowboy saying

Overfed horses get broncy.
