Foreign Languages Club

Well, GHA, when you go there, take a whole lot of pictures to send to me because I'm going to go back down to steamy hot Texas and hide under a rock and never come out. XD

Yeah, we kind of got off track, didn't we? Soooooo to get kind of ON track. . .
Sometimes I watch movies/TV in dubbed languages to see how well I can understand them. Does anyone else do that when they're trying out a language? I watch a lot of Combat!, and it's about GIs in France during WWII, so there are a lot of Germans speaking actual German on it. It's fun to listen to them and try and figure out what they're saying. Recently I bought the Beatles’ movie “A Hard Day’s Night” for my dad’s birthday, and it’s got a French dubbing on it. I watched it in both languages, and none of the voice-over actors sound remotely like the characters they’re playing, and no one even attempts a Liverpudlian accent except the guy who dubs George, and he sounds like he’s slowly choking on a potato.

No, I've never tried that, but that's a great idea that I should've tried sooner.XD

Yeah, me and my brother do it all the time. We watched the Lord of the Rings trilogy in Spanish once--it kind of ruins the whole thing, but hey. My brother is trying to pick up a little Spanish here and there, so he usually watches those dubs, but I like the French ones myself because the words sound like total gibberish yet everyone seems to know what they're talking about, which fascinates me. . .

Yeah I think that watching movies in total English and memorizing what most of it says, then watching it in what ever laungage you want to learn really helps.

Sometimes dubs into other languages completely change the entire storyline and it's fun to try and figure out what they're saying. XD
